Another thing to think about when rebuilding these buicks is modifying the oil passages on the block. Buick had a horrible oiling system so if you build a high performance 455 the mods are a must. Just make sure that you find a machine shop that has done buicks before. Not just chevys and fords, the buicks are a whole different animal. I like these videos, you seem to know what you are doing and you keep it simple and easy. Plus its nice to see Buick getting some recognition, they made some awesome hp back in the day and are very much underated by the muscle community. Im restoring a 1968 skylark at the moment and don't get me wrong I love chevys, but buick is my first love. Goin Fast With Class. :)

Kenny Bell has this nailed My friend Larry Rolph had the fastest 1970 Buick in the 70's and Kenny Bell did the oiling system for him

i just picked up a 1964 buick skylark almost all in boxes. putting car together. but it came with a buick 455 th400 trans. almost everything put car together. i went through motor before put in the car. dropped in car hooked up few wires. primed oil pump. gave it gas andset dist where i was thinking was close enough. and BAM fkr fired right up and idled instantly. let idle 30 secs. tap throttle. shut it off. hooked up radiator. and fan. and started back up and let idle for 20 mins. rev up no ticks taps. i felt like a kid in candy store :) pockets full of gummies :)

I just built a 550 horse Buick 430 cubic inch and stuffed it into the Binderbird today. First fireup today. 20 minute run-in. She runs sweet can't touch the gas 'cause it wants to smoke the 33X12.50 BF Goodrich all terrain TAs,. Gonna turn er. down for the next 500 miles love BBB!!!

.003 clearance = no oil pressure and short-life. Due to the enormous crank journals (3.250), clearances should be closer to .002 Stock clearance will be .0007 to .0011 from the factory.

I really appreciate the videos you make man, so many of these types of videos on youtube are filled with crap, but you get right into it. Some of the most informative and helpful videos I have ever found are on this channel. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us Best of luck in the rest of the build, this 455 is gonna be a horse of an engine

Hello .. Enjoying your build. I was a performance engine builder through 1985, when the fear of of having to do belts, hoses and brakes on imports for the rest of my life drove me to find a new profession. Anyway, I may be getting ahead but since you’re using a stock Buick head do you plan on going with adjustable valve train? I always loved the bigger Buick, Oldsmobile and Pontiacs, Fords and Chryslers I got to do, but wasn’t a fan of non-adjustable valve trains. I can’t believe the aftermarket parts available these days …. It’s really unbelievable. When I got started in high performance we had a few Holley carburetors, a few Edelbrock, Weiand and Offenhauser intake manifolds, a few solid lifter cams, dual point ignition and headers. Anything else you engineered and did yourself. But, premium was 110 + octane and 19.9 cents a gallon then, too. I wasn’t a rope seal fan either but I never, ever had one leak. When I got started even Chevrolets had rope seals. Graphite impregnated asbestos rope; who’d have thought. BTW just a hint on ring end gaps; I used the opposite end of my dial caliper to square the rings in the bore. It works well. anyway thanks for the videos and keep up the good work.

A nozzle from a gear oil bottle will screw on to an oil bottle and you can make a small hole on the nozzle and have much better control of how much oil comes out.

It looks like the crank is sitting on its side in the parts cleaner without being supported in the middle. My engines instructor said that could damage the crank.

it would have to lay on it's side for a couple of months for that to happen the rule with cranks is you don't store them laying down for long periods of time

Why don't you chuck that rope seal in the trash and use one of the aftermarket replacement neoprene seals.
