Do large caliber hunting airguns need a regulator for you to be successful? In short NO! As a hunter, firearms shooter and yes airgunner you just need to know how your equipment performs. The Air Force Texan SS is no exception and is just as accurate and capable of taking big game on shot 5, as it is on shot 1 if you know your equipment. Take a look at the Airforce .457 Texan SS and the pressure change effects impact points at 100 yards.
If you are interested in picking up one of these powerhouse airguns or just need to restock on pellets, air tanks and other accessories you will want to checkout one of the retailers down below.

Can you put a regulator on a Texan? I know there is a lot of aftermarket stuff for them. I know nothing about the brand

The one thing that you didn’t mention, but it was acknowledged in the comments, is the loss of air pressure due to shots. Obviously there is a fairly large amount to the right as well.

Texan is a beast for sure. What is it about the .257 caliber that has you interested? Seems a lot of people gravitate towards them.

@@AirgunAdvisor just from the research I have done , the projectiles have killer ballistic coefficient and can shoot 200-400 yards accurately. I really want to get into 100 yards plus bench rest shooting. The obvious draw back would be the single shot loading. I am trying to figure out a budget long rang shooter. There is so much new stuff coming out it is overwhelming
@AirgunAdvisor
@AirgunAdvisor 2 ай бұрын
@@northtexasairgunner Another drawback would be the amount of air that this platform uses. Since bench matches are timed, you would runout of air to quickly. Now if you are just long range shooting, this would be an ideal choice.

what do you recommend for first time air guns
@AirgunAdvisor
@AirgunAdvisor Жыл бұрын
What will you be using for air? What do you plan to do with your Airgun? Do you want to tune it or shoot it out of the box? Budget? Do you have a scope already or want to shoot with iron sights? A high quality break barrel can be just as rewarding and fun as a pcp. Especially at shorter distances. 50 yards and closer. Lots to think about.

yes yes thank you i’m trying to stay under the $100 budget definitely something with a scope moderately powerful but definitely something that looks and shoots good
@AirgunAdvisor
@AirgunAdvisor Жыл бұрын
@@ttv_fadingrellgaming7553 anything in that budget will shoot more or less the same. You will need to step up to $500+ in the new category to find something that is of high quality. Wal-Mart or any Airguns in the general sporting goods store could fit your desires for fun plinking or lite pesting.

It must be hard to zero your scope if you have to keep the tank full to get an accurate shot.

Thanks,the headline of this video said SS,but in your intro and in the transcript,you said LSS....I'm sure it was a slip of the tongue,but it was important for me to know which was right,as I have just got the 456 SS CF and know there is substantial power difference between it and LSS. Question: After doing research,it seemed the NSA 290GR was a good slug for SS,so I got 50 rounds and they seem really inconsistent in the seating depth.The manual says to push them in the breech with thumb or projectile seating tool until they engage the rifling. I don't have a seating tool ,but I push them with thumb. Some go all the way in,while others go halfway,and some only barely start. Do You think that is an issue? I have tight groups,but changing distances, I'm having trouble adjusting new LPVO to the bullseye. I would expect only elevation drops...maybe faulty LPVO?

If you cast your own - this is a Lee 255 grn .452 mold using WW lead - slugs are double powder coated & sized .457 - 50 yard 5 shot group & then ringing steel at 200 yards kzbin.info/www/bejne/bXOWl6CJn62dqa8

@@tommyrussell1415 - I’ve tested WW in my .308 AirForce Texan. The mold was an MP .311 sledge hammer mold. I used the large hp pin which drops a 131-132 grn .311 projectile. I resize to .309. The Texan will push these to over 960 fps and they expand to about .60 cal at 50 yards when tested in my medium game analog. Video linked. The video is comparing the .308 Texan to a reduced .223 load (40 grn x 1800 fps) as both make between 250-300 fpe. So I would try WW is a HP in the Texan .457 cause it works pretty good in the .308. 30 Cal AirRifle Vs .223 Reduced Load kzbin.info/www/bejne/o6q6ipiLpr5ssNE

@@tommyrussell1415 - I’ve tested WW powder coated to about 2300 fps without any leading issues. That was using Harbor Freight’s powder coat (white). Other coatings may even work better. Also as a side note, freshly powder coated bullet size easily with only a diy spray case lube made of liquid lanolin and rubbing Alcohol (25% lanolin by volume).

@@tommyrussell1415 - 35000 psi should work well for pistol and some lower pressure rifle loadings. I’ve never lubed with alox. I have some but I started powder coating about same time I started casting and the powder coat just seemed easier. But everything I’ve heard is alox is good lube.
