Will, thoroughly enjoyed both you and Mike's video. I took the Amtrak Auto train to pick up my car purchased in Florida back in 2003. Visited Seattle for the Bumper Shoot Music festival years ago when they did a tribute to Jimi Hendrix, [ actually met his Jimi's father in the crowd, where patrons were wearing t-shirts with Jimi's face emblazoned on it. I got choked up because his dad was so touched he was in tears...I gave him a hug ]. The Pacific Northwest has some of the best seafood you will ever taste. [ BTW, I am the NYC Sistah that commented on your lovely smile, in PT One of this trip ]. Looking forward to more vicarious travel videos... Also, will you be doing food videos as well...not necessarily expensive etc.

Will, you and Mike had a great idea to partner-up for the train ride and each of you make your own videos. I've watched both, start to finish, and enjoyed everything. I used to ride the train from Lubbock, TX to Houston, TX with my grandmother in the early and mid 1960s. Although I don't remember tons of details, I do remember the dining cars on the trains back then were much nicer. They had waiters, white table cloths, heavy flatware and nicer glasses. But, your train experience beats any airplane experience nowdays except for the long-haul first class seats that cost thousands. Nice video - fun, informative and enjoyable!

My hometown Seattle. I think route starting from Seattle is best in the summer as you leave Seattle at 440pm. You’ll ride along the Puget Sound and then cross the Cascade Mountains. You go to bed and wake up around Whitefish Montana and from there you’ll see Glacier National Park. Excellent video

First I watched your friends video then yours, it was great to see what each of you filmed. Very different angles and slightly different scenes made this just as enjoyable. I love train travel. Did it a lot in my youth. My most memorable trip was back in the 70's in Queensland, Australia. It was lovingly remembered as the witchitty express. What would take a car to travel four hours would take the train almost two days. The standard joke was that the driver would spit out a tomato seed and the man in the guards van would pick the tomatoes. I had a sleeper (at no extra cost than a seat) and these were old carriages of timber and you could see the coach sway and bend as it travelled. For me it triggered off my desire to travel even more after that experience. But nothing ever matched that experience or the beautiful countryside.

You two are so cute together. Loved every minute of the video. Back around 1992 or so made this same trip with my Mother. We traveled coach. We got aboard in Milwaukee. In Seattle we rented a car and drove up to Vancouver for a few days. Then back in Seattle stayed there to do shopping and some sightseeing. Caught the Coast Starlight to San Francisco and stayed there with a friend for about a week. Also drove to Arroyo Grande for a couple days and then back to San Fran. Caught train again to Los Angeles. Had a car there and bummed around. Took train to San Diego. Stayed there a few days plus a venture to Tijuana. Went back to LA and caught train to San Antonio, Dallas, Little Rock, Saint Louis and Chicago. Took the Hiawatha back to Milwaukee. All together we did about 7,000 miles on that trip. It was wonderful, but we both were glad to get home. I've been across the country by rail several times and these last few years I go to Washington, Baltimore and Philadelphia at least once a year, sometimes twice a year. I have done at least 40,000 miles by rail in my 82 years. All over the USA and Canada.

I took the EMPIRE BUILDER in the summer of 1984 round trip from Seattle to Chicago. LOVED IT. My mother started my love of train travel. I rode the COAST STARLIGHT in December of 1984 to Los Angeles for my sister’s wedding. As we passed thru Oregon, WOW WOW WOW what beauty. The train stopped so all could see the beautiful snow surrounding a waterfall. Living now in Virginia I have taken the commuter trains to Philadelphia and NYC. My bucket list train would be the TGV from London to Paris

You guys have great chemistry together and you both look like you're having fun doing this, excellent video. Not sure if you guys realized this but you were quite fortunate to ride on an updated Superliner car, most of Amtrak equipment is a little dated and it shows. Also while the bedrooms are bigger and have their own bathroom and shower, some prefer the roomette for sleeping as the beds line up with the direction of travel (as opposed to perpendicular in the bedrooms) and I've found this type of motion more conducive to a very restful sleep, not to mention lower fares. The dining room is great place to meet other travelers as you get to share the table with other persons. As Mike said, train travel is not for speed but you can't beat the rolling view and the great experience. Thanks for sharing!

When my kids get older I’m hoping we can all go on a cross country train trip! I grew up in Connecticut but went to college in Philadelphia and took the Amtrak N.E. Corridor trains all the time and LOVED IT. I’ve been on trains in England/France as well (they’re WAY nicer) but something that I’ve always loved about train travel in the US is that it forces you to slow down and just appreciate the scenery and, for lack of better words, the little things. Also, the train stations are incredible. You should get to 30th St. Station in Philly sometime, it’s gorgeous.

You guys make traveling by train in the US look fun. I recently traveled by train for the first time in the states and I enjoyed it for the most part. I to the train from LA's Union Station to San Antonio's Sunset Station. Unfortunately our journey started with a 3 hour delay in LA waiting for another train to come in. Luckley we departed at night so I was able to sleep during the delay. To make up for the delay, Amtrak offered us a Free Breakfast which was nice. We got to see some different parts of the states you don't see driving on IH 10 which was nice. A few hours later the train came to a complete stop in the middle of the desert. Apparently due to the delay our crew had passed the federal mandated time they are allowed to work so we had to wait 2hrs for a new crew to board to be driven out to board the train. They offered us a free lunch to make up for it. We got rolling and I took some photos from the observation car and meet some interesting folks along the way. That night was Halloween and I was a bit saddened that no special events were planned or available for the passengers.I made my way over to the dining car for dinner. I was seated with some former NBL players and we struck up a conversation about some ball games. Dinner was a bit more expensive that what I thought it would be but oh well. I made my way over to the lounge for a beer and to see if anything fun was happening. Unfortunately, only myself and a couple from Ghana were thirsty. We chatted for about two hours and then I excused myself and made my way back to my seat and slept for the night. It seemed like we had made up about an hour when I awoke in the morning. We rolled into El Paso, Texas and I still had a voucher for breakfast so I made my way over. Breakfast was good. And we were rolling again. About an hour West of Uvalde, Texas the train once again came to a complete stop. We sat with no word from the crew for about an hour and half then we were informed that a freight train had derailed on the other side of Uvalde and they did not know how long it would take to clear the wreckage, fix the, and test the tracks. It took 6 hrs. They fed use lunch for free and supplied us with drinks and snacks. About 11 hours delayed we Finally roll into San Antonio. If not for the delays the trip would have been really enjoyable. The crews were very courteous throughout. Luckily I had the time to absorb the delays since this was my return trip. I hope my next trip, which I've already planned from San Antonio to Denver in April, will go a lot smoother. Maybe I'll film a little video as well. Cheers.

What a cool trip! I love that All Aboard thing in the US. In Europe, the train attendant just blows a whistle, or on newer trains, they turn a key near one of the doors and the train whistles for them. Efficient, but not as charming!

There really is nothing like riding the train, i rode the starlight from portland to california in a roomette And i really enjoyed it and the funny thing is im a train engineer. You would think i wouldnt like it because it reminds me of work but riding the train on amtrak is a total different experience, its more relaxing and low key than stress of flying, you can see the scenery when driving but you really cant enjoy it because you have to focus on the road, and when you have to go to the bathroom you have to stop, but on the train you have everything you need right there, its bascially a hotel on rails

Commented on Mikes story so had to on yours too :) . So glad you liked Amtrak, I hope to never fly again, at least when practical. Next you need to take the California Zephyr. You follow the Colorado river for miles and a whole new view of our country. Safe travels.

Yes, the Zephyr ride is going to be an amazing one I keep hearing Cindy. Yes, and I'm with you I'd rather ride on a train and be able to relax than flying.
