May 25, 1977 was my 11th birthday. I was living in Spokane, Washington, and that was not one of the premier cities. I saw it about two weeks later when it came to my local cinema. It stayed at that theater for at least six months, and I would take my allowance to go see it again whenever I could. I don't know how many times.

I first saw Star Wars at the drive-in when I was 7 years old in 1977, and I love it to this day! ❤😊

47 years?!? That makes me feel old. I love how they made all sorts of stuff out of random junk and bits of model kits. You can tell that Lucas was a documentary filmmaker by how he directed scenes. I didn't know about the car that they based the landspeeder on. Those Reliant three wheeled cars are hilarious! I've seen them on the show Top Gear. The fact that Star Wars came out in the spring wound up being why I saw it at a drive in movie theater. Raiders was a great idea that Lucas and Spielberg had on that vacation. I have DVDs of the original theater version but they are not the original soundtrack as they are in better stereo than the first run. There are many audio versions that were done as theater speakers improved. Splinter of the Mind's Eye was later rewritten as an excellent novel. I was so excited to read it back then. The music is fantastic! I love all aspects of the movies, but the music and sound effects are my favorite aspect. Great info in this video!

Alec Guiness suggested that Obi Wan be killed to raise dramitic tension, in reality he suggested it because he didn't want to say anymore of the clunky dialogue

The fact that the Kraft dragon skeleton was reused from a different movie was a surprise to me...cool that you found an image of the original movie too!

Just when you thought you've seen and heard all of the "SW Facts" videos, here comes Joey to surprise you with stuff you definitely didn't know. Seriously, so many videos like this are facts and details that we've known forever, but you knocked it out of the park with several in this video that I personally didn't know!! 🤯 Loved this little bit of fun buddy. Very cool & perfect for a SW Sunday!

Supposedly Carrie Fisher was one of the few people to have a DVD copy of the Star Wars Holiday Special, she got it as payment for doing the audio commentary for the Original Trilogy DVDs She would play it at parties... when she wanted everyone to leave, lol

Knowing Lucas had drawn inspiration from the John Carter character, I always assumed the word 'Jedi' came from the 'Jed' order in those Burroughs novels.

When discussing the Ewan McGregor Denis Lawson link, it would make sense to also mention the other McGregor-related actors in the franchise. Esther-Rose McGregor was in the Obi-Wan TV series (the girl who offered to sell Obi-Wan spice on Daiyu). Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who has been in a relationship with McGregor since 2017, and married to him since 2022, played Hera Syndulla in the Ahsoka TV series.

Actual 1977 budget was 8 million dollars,it went 1.25 million dollars over budget. An 8 or 9 million dollar budget, while low for a feature film at the time, was typical for a sci-fi film

Always bothered me that Billie Lourd Didn't play Leia's Daughter in the Sequels... Make her Kyla Ren!! I mean its RIGHT THERE!!!! The real life daughter and you say no? So instead we got whatever Disney did anyway... It all sucked.

I've known fact #17 for years The reason why Lucas ended up.killing Kenobi was because he realized that Kenobi was essentially useless after they got off the Death Star. Lucas knew he couldn't have a character that important essentially be useless,so he made the decision to kill Kenobi. Alec almost left the project because of it. It's why Lucas had to create Yoda for Empire because all of the training scenes in Empire were supposed to be Obi-Wan training Luke. Yoda's death in Jedi was actually supposed to be Kenobi's death

With regard to #2 on your list: Another big influence on Star Wars was the Flash Gordon serials, in fact Star Wars came about due to a failed attempt by Lucas to secure the rights to Flash Gordon
