Olivia and Nathan here! Bucharest & Transylvania Romania blew us away. Learning about the history of Vlad the Impaler and Nicolae Ceaușescu was shocking. We traveled to the mountains in Transylvania to see Peleș Castle and Bran Castle.

I did a weekend trip to Bucharest from Chicago, IL. It was a great way to spend a long weekend. I saw almost everything and highly recommend the city for anyone interested in a lower-cost European capital. The Parliament Building is well worth a tour. The hallways, chandeliers, staircases, rooms, balcony, and height of the ceilings are all so impressive. You can drive a huge semi through the hallway and not touch the walls or ceiling! One interesting fact: Everything used to build the Parliament is sourced from inside Romania.

I'm glad you guys enjoyed your time in our beautiful country. Fun fact: yes, Bucharest still has some French feel to it in the central parts, and Transylvania has a lot of German feel. If you'd have crossed the Carpathians east and get to the region of Moldova, especially Bukovina, you'd find a Ukrainian and Russian feel to the cities there (e.g. Piatra Neamt, Suceava, even Iasi somewhat), if you go to Craiova you'll get a feel more like Bulgaria, and in Timisoara and Oradea there's a certain something to remind you of Austria and Hungary. ☺

Transylvania is wonderful! Peles Castle is fantastic, it's too bad you did not get to go inside. Bran Castle is the most popular attraction in all of Romania and is probably the least interesting (in my opinion). My favorite places in Romania include: Sighisoara, Sibiu, Brasov, Dealu Mare and Maramures. The fountain show on the weekends is epic! I've been maybe 5 times I loved it so much. Great video guys, hope you are enjoying yourselves.

I just love Romania, spent many months there. It really is unfortunate what happened to Bucharest during Communism, and that earthquake in the 70s gave them the excuse to tear down so many beautiful buildings, even though they were not damaged. If you're still in Romania and need any suggestions, including restaurants in Bucharest, let me know.

Lot of bull about the parliament building and how the people suffered to be built, but all come to see mostly the marvels built by Ceausescu, not the sort of slums they cry for. Besides the parliament and central area Ceausescu also built 700,000 apartments in Bucharest, easily accessible for everyone, based on family size. He was not evil and saved the important buildings, like old churches, by shifting them to other locations, on rails. People could practice any sort of religion and traditions that time and the morals and work ethic were much stronger than today. He also made many heavy industrialized cities from the scratch, places to work and live for millions of Romanians. He dislocated entire mountains, to build the 150 km Transfagarasanu road, with the Vidraru dam/lake on top, entirely for defense purposes. Many other dams and large projects. Wonder how many pyramids could be built from 150 km of dislocated mountain, for projects meant not to serve as resting place of megalomaniac kings, but as defense line, to preserve the nation in the long run. Or the Danube - Black sea channel, bigger than Panama, started during the soviet occupation, with many political prisoners, finished by the army. The chief of secret police during soviet occupation was a Russian soviet with a changed Romanian names, installed to eradicate all sort of opposition to the regime, all pre war intellectuality and build on terror a brand new socialist man. To rip off Romanian economy and resources for 13 years and shift most production to USSR. When Ceausescu came to power in 1965 he released all political prisoners, replaced most soviet agent and sent them to USSR. During his first 15 years Romania opened to the world and strongly opposed the Warsaw pact aggression against Czechoslovakia. True that in the last few years he became a dictator, people couldn't speak freely, but was not the type of greedy wacko or blood thirsty criminal, like Gadafi, Sadam, Mao, etc. In dec 89 he was informed that large groups of soviet, hungarian and serbian agents entered Romania, with a clear intend to overthrow the regime and install in power soviet puppets. Exactly what happened after they hijacked the Romanian revolution, organized the diversion with the so called Ceausescu's loyalists, to send the millions from the streets home, by killing thousands of civilians, so they could grab power for their soviet agents. Those who destroyed Romania after 89 and sold it at scrap. Millions forced to leave their homes and families to look for work abroad. Well situation is improving but generations were sacrificed and lost.

The dark past with Dracule is only your lack of information and the strupid things you learned back in your country and took for true.

Well not really, he may not have been a vampire, but he was indeed blood thirsty, and most importantly, he was a key figure in European History. As a History and archaeology major I plan to visit his castle, will just have to do my best to ignore all those ugly vampire mugs and t-shirts that they sell on the way.

Ok,mister ,,donde esta la biblioteca'' ,allow me to teach you some romanian: ,,unde este biblioteca'',very usefull for a tourist ,haha We learn languages in a different way compared to America, for example ,,tienes cerveza fria?'' wich in mandarin would be ,,ni yo chingliang da psitsio?'' ,is the most important thing for a romanian, because ,en labiblioteca no hay cerveza'' entonces pa que carajo buscaria yo la puñetera biblioteca,si no se leer en esa lengua?😄
