The marlin action cannot handle the pressures. They would have to design a whole new action for it. That’s why Big Horn Armory rifles are so expensive. They make their own actions for these higher pressure modern rounds
@DriveCarToBarАй бұрын
@@adamthomas7250 The pre-Ruger Marlin 1894s were chambered in 44 Magnum and 41 Magnum which are similar in pressure to the .480. Ruger currently makes the 1894 in .44 Mag and .357 Mag. But they don't have to use the 1894 action. Marlin produced a few lever guns chambered in much higher power rifle cartridges. They could figure it out.

And it looks like Clements Custom Guns made a few one-off's in 480 Ruger, including an offering of a lever gun in 480 Ruger. Bill Clements is retired now though. While out looks like they're out of production at this point, you could get the Puma lever gun which was Rossi's copy of the Winchester 1892 in .480 Ruger. I'm not too hot on a Taurus gun, but if they can do it, surely Ruger can make a reliable Marlin '94 in .480 to go with a Blackhawk or Redhawk. In fact, I'll take mine in a nice blued finish, oil-rubbed Mesquite furniture and with a short little 12-13" barrel and a piece of pic rail on top. Sure it'll need a tax stamp, but how handy would that be?

@@AlaskanBallistics I've never traded or sold any of my handguns, rifles, or shotguns, only added to my collection for the past fifty-plus years. Some of them I haven't shot in years. Some I have gone back and developed different loads for, after not shooting them for years. I find that they function exceptionally well with the newer handloading components of today; much better than they did when I bought them years ago. Or, a new holster makes them a better carry option than perhaps they were before. My will stipulates selling them as part of my estate when the time comes. It's surprising the number of people at the gun clubs I belong to who have not made specific provisions for the disposal of their firearms collection when they pass on. It's a valuable and everlasting asset worthy of estate planning consideration, as far as I'm concerned.

I’ve had a 480 SRH 7 1/2” since Ruger introduced it. As there was little to no old data back then I worked up loads and tested over a dozen different molds from 275-460 gr, at least 1/2 dozen of those molds were 390-410 gr including one of the prototype Lee 400 gr molds. 21 gr of H-110 lit off by a CCI 350 under 390-410 gr clocked 1200 fps give or take and all those various cast bullet designs would group 2” at 50 yds. Cases fall out of the cylinder unlike the Hornady factory ammo that was slightly sticky on extraction. I have over 5000 rounds through the gun, just as tight and accurate as new

I personally have the Ruger Alaskan in .480 ruger as well, having acquired this fine piece for Bear defense when hunting. We can all agree producing higher velocity and ft-lbs is nice, but that the short barrel of the Alaskan is meant for functionality, being ideal in close quarters situations, or heavily wooded areas for you to deploy on a Bear as quickly, effectively and efficiently as possible. the velocity and ft-lbs of the Alaskan are more than enough to stop a bear as well.

Got the short barrel version coming. The fact that the .480 Ruger is a derivative of the .475 Linebaugh similar to .38/.357 Mag, .44/.44 Mag, et.al. configurations, was the deciding factor, given the caliber choices available in the Alaskan format. Not concerned about short barrel impotence. I didn't buy it to shoot at stuff fifty to a hundred yards away. Its purpose for my use is up close and personal work. My guess is it has more than enough velocity for that. I have long barrel, big bore, scoped, high velocity handguns for shooting at distances.
