The last Evo IX we drove on TST had a bit of a rubbing issue, to the point that it was hard to overlook. This time, we see how a bone stock suspension handles doubling the stock horsepower.
Check out Justin's Evo on WheelWell!

Finally, an Evo done right! I see people doubting Justin when he said he encounters no problems, and I disagree. I've worked on several 4G63 engines, for myself and my friends, and we always ran into problems sooner or late. A little over a year ago, I took my old '95 Eclipse GSX to a shop to get it built and since that day, I haven't run into any problems. People who say their Evo's aren't reliable are the ones who toyed around with it too much. Give the car to true experts and they will get it done right. Forget that "built, not bought" nonsense and do whatever it is that will make your car fun and reliable.

Seeing most of you somehow know him personally, I guess I'll have to take your word for it. I can't argue against 3+ people. Sad, cause he seemed like a nice guy in the video. Then again, you don't truly know someone until you actually spend time with them.

+YearLongBender Almost every EVO Matt has ever run into at tracks had problems. People adding too much power only lasting for part of a track day or screwing with the suspension causing rubbing. As for the gearbox the owner admitted it was because he added too much power to it.

+Nicholls & Sense Evos are actually reliable as long as you leave it stock. With bolt-ons hopefully you'd have a 5spd (I blew my 6spd up too) but leave it at that and it will be very reliable actually. Sort of finicky to maintain and you can't slack off on it, but do it right and it won't fail you. I've driven my evo now for close to 90k miles and anything that has failed has been my fault really. Other than the 6spd...

SkrawnyJonny Guess what missy, everybody gets made fun of. I was going to say that suspension must have been really good with that much weight in it. It isn't making fun it's just an observation. Weight matters in cars. Everybody knows that. Among men getting made fun of is the highest form of affection. Maybe you spent too much time with your mommy to understand that.

Great video! I had 2 different Evo's (8 & 9 MR SE)in the past with just under 100k combined miles of driving on them. No failures other than normal wear items such as tires, tires and more tires, brakes and 1 clutch. They were both very reliable as in they never left me stranded but they were a bit expensive to drive as a daily. The enjoyment was most certainly worth it. To date they were the best driving cars that I've owned out of about 20 cars.

Love these evos. And fiiinally an owner with common sense. Everybody modifies the suspension thinking theyre improving it when in fact all theyre doing is making the car uncomfortable and ruining the ride. The point at which the suspension ought to be modified is the point when you need to consider buying a designated track ride. These kind of cars are often too stiff as it is for a daily. So kudos to the owner for not being a knobhead and overdoing it and hope he has many fun miles in it.

"Is it Flex Fuel, so you can run pump gas in it if you want?" "Yeah, I have dual maps so i could run 91oct if i wanted to" Running 2 maps Is NOT "Flex Fuel". Its only Flex Fuel if you have an Ethanol Sensor, and your ecu adjusts timing/fuel based on ethanol% w/o changing maps. So many people get this confused. I always see people calling E85 "Flex Fuel" too. No, Ethanol isnt Flex Fuel. Its an Alternative fuel.

Besides that: I'm SO(!!!) impressed by how well stock suspension handles two fairly large dudes, a difficult road, and all that power. That's freaking amazing. Kudos to Mitsubishi, back then. +Freak Nasty I know you didn't ask me, but thought I'd chime in. They're heavy, the VQ37 is a bit wheezy and not very free-revving, the driving position's not great and the visibility is terrible. It's sort of in between an actual sports car and a muscle car, which is probably why a lot of the hardcore car enthusiasts on either side find it too much of a compromise.
