Those same judges rule that police officers' personal information not only isn't protected, but must be released to the public on request. Setting aside opinions on bad policing and folks who should never be in the profession - this means that their families and homes are targeted by activists. One of our local sheriffs home address was exposed and someone put a bullet through the window of the family car. He wasn't in it - his wife and kids were. Thankfully nobody was hurt in that instance but it certainly raises some questions for judges to decide they are too precious to be exposed but then rule that other justice workers are expendable.

There are plenty of services in the event you need assistance with aging, many of them free of charge. I would NEVER expect my adult kids to provide my care. I've worked on getting laws passed, and unfortunately you're mostly competing against lobbyists of major corporations. Data collection makes a lot of money, so a law that protects everyone's personal information would never get passed unless you had millions of people on standby to protest. You have to start small, this law covers public officials like politicians, judges, police officers, and their immediate family members. Over time with enough backlash from the average citizens (numbers v.s. money) the law will most likely be revised. If the judge fought for everyone at the start the bill would've died in committee, and we'd never be able to make progress. It sucks, but that's how our system works.

Bigotry comes in many forms. Labeling people is one of them. Can we just admit this piece of work was disturbed and had mental issues without inserting some bs "this group is bad" prejudice, devoid of any nuance? Labeling has become such a shallow and cheap way to just dismiss the deeper issues and demons at the root of the problem. Such pretentious "I'm better than you are" ism.

Idk, the other found names indicate to me that he was not really done. I think the judge's child wasn't his actual target, he wanted HER. But she wasn't on the door and he had to pull through anyway. Which is probably what led to his 'early' suicide instead of going on with his absolutely sick rampage. It's just a detail in this gruesome case and doesn't change anything, but that's how I figured this went down.

There are many things about this story that don't add up. The perpetrator hates women, yet he shoots and kills three men?? Additionally, they said that in the first shooting, he specifically asked for the victim to come to the door to sign for the delivery...yet at judge Salas's house he could have shot and killed her if he had asked her to come to the door to sign for the package. Instead, he shoots and kills the two innocent men. ? By the way - judge Salas (the week that this happened) was put in charge of a Jeffrey Epstein case. This whole thing stinks to high heaven.

@lisavizzini9609 From a practical standpoint, there are less than 900 judges in the US while there are 1.3 million lawyers in the U.S. Blanket legislation would be unsustainable. Moreover, judges don't practice law. They preside over it. Therefore, their role of maintaining the integrity of the law serves, exponentially, more citizens than that of the role of lawyers. Additionally, because their rulings have a significant, reverberent effect that affects a larger population, they are more likely to be targets. This judge worked hard to install this protection after her son was killed at home, in front of his parents, because of his mother's gender and job. Nothing in the language of Daniel's Law prevents you or anyone else from putting in the work and doing the same.
