In this video, we have made Deivathin Kural Samooha Thanivaazhkai Nerigal : Paropakaaram : Seiyavendiya Pani + Dhivyasmaranaikku pin Dhevasam Yen? (Task to be done + Why Divasam after Divyasmarana?) for the adherent followers of Kanchi Sri Maha Periyava.
Jagadhguru Sri. Chandrasekharendra Saraswati Swamigal (by birth: Swaminathan Sharma), also known as Mahaperiyava (meaning: A Venerable Sage) or the Sage of Kanchi was the 68th Peetathipathi of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam. Mahaperiyava's discourses were written as a great piece of literature based on Hindu philosophies, in a Tamil book named Dheivathin Kural (Voice of God).
Mahaperiyava was born on May 20 1894, in Vilupuram, south Arcot district of Tamil Nadu. His parents Sri. Subramanya Sastri and Smt. Mahalakshmi were Kannada speaking Smartha Brahmins, who migrated to Tamil Nadu in their earlier generations. Swaminathan Sharma was the second child to his parents. His upanayanam was performed in Dindivanam in the year 1905 and he learned Vedas and started doing poojas at a very young age. In the year 1906, the 66th Peetathipathi of Shri Kamakoti Peetam, Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati VI, was camping in Perimukkal, a small village near Dindivanam in observance of the Chathurmasya Vratham. The 66th Acharya attained siddhi and died in Kalavai and Swaminathan's maternal cousin was installed as the 67th Acharya. The 67th Acharya had a fever and due to the unexpected turn of events, Swaminathan was installed as the next Acharya. Swaminathan ascended the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam on 13th February, in the year 1907 as the 68th Acharya with the Sanyasa name Chandrasekharendra Saraswati. Mahaperiyava was only 15 years old in 1907 and he was learning under the pandits of Matha at Kumbakonam. He was very well versed in ancient Indian literature, various hindu texts and Puranas. He studied in Mahendramangalam between the years 1911 and 1914 and showed keen interest in photography, mathematics and astronomy. In 1914, he went back to Kumbakonam. The Matha was managed by the Court of Wards from 1911-1915 until he turned twenty one in May 1915.
As an Acharya, like the founder of Kanchi mutt, the great guru Adi Shankara, he travelled across the country on a palanquin and started spreading his spiritual knowledge. On several occasions, he addressed the common masses on diverse aspects of our Dharma, ancient culture, and a variety of subjects. He had devotees in not just Hinduism but various other castes, who were not followers of the mutt. Soon, his followers realized he was not a normal person and gave him the name Jagadguru. His discourses were important for his devotees and others across India, who were suffering from lack of devotion. Mahaperiyava was dedicated to the deity of Kanchi Kamakshi, all his life. He died without celebrating his centenary on 8 January 1994. His attainment of Videhamukthi invited devotees to go beyond numerology and believe only the name of god in their lifespan.
