This was a really great demonstration, your videos always make me smile. I had tried this technique and got so caught up in painting that I forgot how fun ink is! I did a few of these on photo paper and it was just so cool, the ink really clings to it. So excited to see where you go from here. Best wishes.

Hi. Loved this demonstration and had a few questions but was worried that because it was four years ago that I might not have a chance of a response. When I went to your channel, I was so excited to see that not only am I a current subscriber but you are a current contributor. I’m thrilled! Back to the questions. What kind of paper are you using? Have you ever used watercolor paper? I saw this demonstration before and they used rice paper which was very cool. How do you lay out your paper to dry without it sticking to the surface? Especially with the wallpaper glue. That leads to the next question. What is the purpose of the wallpaper glue? OK, too many questions but a whole lot of enthusiasm. It sounded like you do this also with paint but because the videos are from so long ago I couldn’t find it. All the others I’ve watched only use ink. I wonder about the difference. I have tons of paint but only black ink.

the cheapest printer paper works best...watercolor paper might work but I find it too expensive. You can use all types of paper ..... the paper first be treated using a mordant, in this case an alum mixture. The alum helps the pigments used in marbling to adhere to the paper. You need to thicken the water for the paint to float.... wallpaper paste is cheap ... normally you will use carrageenan... it`s a seaweed that thickens water. you rinse the painting once it is taken out of the tray then hang it to dry.

I haven't tried water marbling in years. I barely explored the art back then as all I was doing was making some wrapping paper. I'm definitely looking forward to more on this technique, thank you Annemarie 💗

Hoi Annemarie. I like your video a lot. I did try this the other day with ecoline ink, with self made alcohol ink and with acrilyc paints but it kept sinking and the little bit that stayed floating dript straight off of the paper, was hartly anything left. I did it both with and without wallpaper glue, that made no difference at all. Do you have any advice for me?

I will educate you What is Suminagashi? Suminagashi is the Japanese art of marbling, dating back to the 12th Century. Translating directly to 'floating ink', the marbling process uses a richly pigmented sumi ink floating on water, which is then manipulated into distinctive patterns.
