Great work Nick! Love to see BBC builds. I have a set of 3994026 castings i think they are about the same as later 088 & 990 castings. They are dated early 1972.

What I like about this off The shelf parts Combination, it will make around 600 hp every time with decent heads and intake
@cashmoney32937 ай бұрын
I wonder how much extra power you would pick up with aluminum heads 🤔
@dzperformance73607 ай бұрын
If all things was the same except the material the head was made out of I think it would be Very little

Pretty small cam, I run a bigger one in my 600 hp 427s, I like the torque of the 496, getting ready to build a 750 hp 496 with aluminum heads and a bigger cam, 4340 crank and rods, looking to turn it about 7500 with a solid roller
@donwalsh75218 ай бұрын
Would like to see a tunnel ram on that combo some time, edelbrock street ram rectangle port. Thats what I have for my 496. With 242 248 112 melling hydraulic roller

That's a nice piece I like it a lot

I'm surprised at how broad the power is delivered. 4500rpm torque peak and 6500rpm power peak. But it'll make for tonnes of fun in a street car 😃

Hey Nick. Thanks for posting. This one seemed a little short on hp. wasnt sure if you said what size of valve..Anyway, next time you build one of these with a good set of aluminum heads, try a howards HRC-123505-10 HR cam... See if it picks up a little..Great motor as always..

Hey Nick, thank you for all the old school Big Chevy Builds have you ran this camshaft in a 454 4"stroke or only 496s ?
@dzperformance73607 ай бұрын
No thank you for watching my channel But to answer your question,, No , I have never ran it in a 4-inch stroke 454 ,this is going out on a limb but if you had the exact same combination I have usually found you can figure 1.1 horsepower less or more for every cubic inch . that would be highly contested by other people but it's awful close
@dzperformance73607 ай бұрын
My little rule just applies to hydraulic roller Street Motors in that Realm
@HighPoorformance_LuvTruck7 ай бұрын
Appreciate the honesty it would serve to make sense it is 42 Cubes difference. Have you tested the Brodix BB2 Plus Heads?
@dzperformance73608 ай бұрын
Howard's or clay Smith hydraulic roller lifters.I'll use GM. performance parts on the gyn 6 blocks YES ,It's like cheating, 496's crank it out.
@hankclingingsmith87078 ай бұрын
I don't understand. You can port oval port heads and get same power in a 454 bored 60
@dzperformance73608 ай бұрын
There's just so many variables that can make up for the cubic inch difference,, So the answers yes you can

But if all factors are the same the bigger motor will always win

Was this engine ran with hyd roller lifters or solid lifters tight lashed? There was no drop off after 6300 like normal hyd rollers. Nice combo

You got me. I didn't mention that in the video.They are solid roller lifters tight lashed

Thanks for sharing. What do you think 781s with 2.19/1.88 with similar porting would do on this short block?

Hey nick how do you like that camshaft I had the same one in a 383 but was thinking about changing the cam in my 0.60 over 427 I have a howards 235x241 618 lift on a 108 lsa the cam works really good I just don't care for the 108 lsa I do have a solid xr292r which I love that cam but I don't know if I want to run a solid roller in my street càr my motor is right at 10.7 to 1 compression it's got afr 265 heads do you have any cam recommendations? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
@dzperformance73608 ай бұрын
The cam's okay for a generic just off the shelf cam , It's really designed for a long lifespan rather than maximum horsepower

Nick, what hyd roller lifters do you use in your big blocks? So easy to make power/torque with a 496 isn't it? 😁

600hp with 580 tq with that small a cam! And this engine is not even working hard. And yeah if you can build this much power with a 454 how come no one is doing it? This is so much better power than the 502 and 454 ho crate engines.
@dzperformance73608 ай бұрын
I got a combination.I'm gonna drop on you soon if you got the perfect cam and set up.A 454 will do 600 horse
