A QB's "shut up" does not come from intimidation or dominance. It comes the necessity of getting the play called on time. I'm sure he is not worried about who is talking or anyone's feelings. It is just to get the information out in an efficient way.

Color commentators generally have to grind to get to prime time, where as play by play is retired players who are well spoken. Amazon grabbed 3 players in wentworth, sherm and Tony G and an established person in Clarissa wtf ever her name is. There commentators are Herby, a former player albeit at the college level and Al Michaels, probably the most synonmous name with pro football for anyone under 35, who is still calling games. Players get fast tracked because they played, if you don't play you have to grind. What I like about Purdy other than his confidence and execution is his accuracy. He throws a deep ball accurately, something Garappolo has never done. He also puts the ball in a place where the receiver can run.
@rhmayer1
@rhmayer1 Жыл бұрын
"something Garoppolo has never done." I've seen Jimmy make lots of deep accurate throws. There was a game earlier this year (Broncos?) where Jimmy threw 4 long balls. Three were dropped, one was caught but negated by a penalty. All four were beauties - totally catchable. Last year Jimmy surprisingly had the highest Cmpl% for passes 40+ yards, according to David Lombardi. It irks me when people use absolutes like "never." It shows bias and instantly weakens credibility. Just say "seldom" or something if that's your point of view. At least that's spoken more as opinion and not fact.

@@rhmayer1 I agree with you, but I also don't think Purdy throws to Emmanuel Sanders' feet in the superbowl. The kid is absolutely ice cold in his biggest moments so far. We'll see how the playoffs go
@rhmayer1
@rhmayer1 Жыл бұрын
@@jurassicturtle3666 I don't think you can extrapolate that Jimmy will fail in the SB because once he made a bad throw to Sanders in a SB. That's just a lazy narrative and unfounded generalization that I don't buy into. Jimmy has played well in many high-pressure, high-stakes games. His playoff record is better than Aaron Rodgers', who has a SB win, but a lot more one-and-dones and two-and-dones. The worst Jimmy has done in the playoffs is making it to the NFCC, and with two throwing arm injuries, to boot. Anyway, we've seen Brock make bad throws - near INT's, etc. All QB's make bad throws occasionally. People forget that Joe The GOAT threw 2 INT's before throwing "The Catch" to Dwight Clark in an NFCC. That was a big game. People also forget that in the SB against the Chiefs, Jimmy and the 49ers led the game for 3 quarters and then the defense failed to stop the Chiefs on repeated 4th quarter drives, allowing a comeback. It's a TEAM sport. Blaming Jimmy, and going beyond that to say that "he can't handle winning a SB" is nonsense in my view. One thing we haven't seen from Brock yet, is how he plays (how cool and productive he remains) when the team falls behind. We've seen Jimmy play cool and aggressive, as he always does winning or losing, and make a lot of comeback wins. The Wk18 17-pt comeback win last year against the Rams - a must win to get us into the playoffs - comes to mind. And there's a whole YT video on Jimmy's 4th quarter comeback wins. We've only seen Brock comfortably supported by an outstanding defense and the most loaded offense roster in the league in a limited number of games where the team never fell behind. He hasn't played under adversity, from behind yet. He hasn't had ANY big adversity moments yet, so it's a little early to say he's played in a true variety of those "biggest moments." Playoff games - playing the best teams in the league - will be at a different level than these past few games. There's a reason no rookie QB in the history of the league has won a SB. But on the other hand, in Brock's favor, if there ever was a loaded team with so much talent to make up for some expected rookie mistakes and break that long league record, it would be this 2022 49er team.
@jurassicturtle3666
@jurassicturtle3666 Жыл бұрын
@@rhmayer1 I extrapolate that from watching him get flighty after things aren't going smoothly and be really inconsistent in important moments. He even showed that in the Superbowl season. I don't understand how you can watch years of 9er football and forget all of his chokes for the good stat sheet he ends up with at the end of the season. It's like the reverse of Tony Romo. He's not a bad QB, but he's been at his ceiling with the 9ers, which is at best ~20 points a game and relying on the defense. Just look at the 49ers ppg now since Brock took over. The passing game is so much more consistent. Brock's comfortably passing all over the field, not just in-between the numbers like Jimmy. We're finally winning games on defense AND offense.

A true leader in the making. He is handling this like a 3-5 year QB with experience. He might not be the best arm, the biggest guy, but he has the qualities that can assist him in succeeding. This system fits him perfectly and all he has to do is manage it without turning it over and he will be looked at like the leader of the offense. I have been a 49ers fan since 1989 and there has been times when I have gotten excited about certain teams. When Steve Young took over, When Kaepernick took over and now, when Purdy has taken over. Think about it, only three times in the past 30 years have I been excited about a QB taking over.

His performance thus far, shows how inadequate the ISU offense was (in all aspects). He has that DAWG in him, but never saw greatness in college, due to having an inferior team around him. I know the comparison is highly controversial, but there was a QB a couple decades ago, that came out of nowhere, got picked in the 6th round, and is now.... the GOAT. I wish him all the best, and this comes from a fan of his rival school (Iowa). There's something cool about watching a former Cyclone, throwing to a former Hawkeye (Kittle).

The thing that gives me hope is that because he was the last pick in the draft he’ll have that chip on his shoulder and he’ll be extra prepared . He isn’t Joe Burrow /Mahomes with the arm talent but in this system he just has to play within the system and hit the open guy. He’s already thrown more “bomb” TDs than Jimmy G did and he’s only been in for 4 games. That adds an extra element to the offense and is what we lacked under JG.

Late round draft pick with a supposedly weak arm that came out of nowhere. I remember when people would say that Brady was just a system QB and a game manager even after he had won 1 or 2 superbowls. It wasn't really until he had that historic 16-0 season where Brady would start putting up ungodly passing numbers. Brock is poised,accurate,smart,patient and determined and he's a freaking rookie out there looking better than most veterans.

QB saying shut up isn't disprespectful, its said when the QB comes to the huddle and the players are talking and its like the QB is the leader he is in control of the team, so when people continue talking when he walks into the huddle he needs to get them to listen so its more of a "shut up so you can hear the play call" because everyone needs to hear it if one guy doesn't the play falls apart. As a QB coach i teach my QBs this, on offense its your huddle. Control the huddle and be the leader you are meant to be. IF you need to yell at the guys like "SHUT UP!!!" bc you get to the huddle and they're all joking around talking, its the quickest way to get their attention while also making them get serious and ready to listen and execute the next play. If someone doesn't hear the play bc you were not being a leader by making sure they do its a problem. Thats you're responsibility so sometimes it comes with harsh words and sometimes its need.

LOL Purdy telling veteran players to shut up is HILARIOUS. I'm a DIE HARD NINER fan here since 1978, a year before Montana was drafted. Please Listen up. Take these words of encouragement from me and let them burn thru your "Niner Faithful" Souls . What had we set out to do this season from day one? Be the #1 Seed in the NFC. How did we do it? 1 Game at a time and yes, we had 4 stumbles but, we did not fall, we did not fail, and WE KEPT MOVING FORWARD. How did we do it? By having FAITH that our young Captain QB Brock Purdy could lead us to our goal and BY GOD HE DID! There is no more doubting this QB, put all that bs and shove in the critic's pipe and let them smoke it. WE ALL as NINER Faithful and THE PLAYERS did this together as ONE. Next Goal is to complete our QUEST FOR SIX. Let's achieve this goal as ONE solidified FAN/TEAM base and KEEP MOVING FORWARD 1 GAME at a time until we cross that finish line. WHO's With me? 1,2,3 GOOOOOO NINERS!! Fans and Niner players are ALWAYS FAITHFUL TO THE BAY!!

I'm so stoked about Purdy. I think the Niners accidentally stumbled onto a franchise QB. This kid is going to be in that special top elite class of QB's this next generation. He's going to be up there with Rodgers, Brady, Favre, Young, Elway, Montana. Watch and learn. I just hope the Niners don't do something dumb like bench Purdy for Lance or Jimmy when they return. He's only 23. He will make some mistakes and struggle in some games as he gains experience. The Niners need to realize that because if they bench him because he struggles once... they will destroy all confidence he has a QB. You ride or die by Purdy IMO from here on out.

this is what I have been saying in 100 years. The best pro QB doesn't have the strongest arm but throws into the best windows. Dan Marino still the only QB I ever saw who the complete package: strong rocket arm with pocket smarts and could throw into tight windows. Not even Big Ben or Tom Brady could spin the ball as well as Dan could.

ofc rookie has to have respect for veteran players but when u r qb u need have take control as well without cussing or acting like u r better than everybody else. there is. fine line between that. good player will know that fine line. there is thing called team culture, meaning just cause u r veteran player or good known player, u have to respectful of everyone even coaching staff, team staff, etc. better the team chemistry and trust and respect for each other, better ur team will play.

The entire team has a different dynamic when Brock started playing QB. It’s like everything “Clicked.” What they were trying to do, is working. They are excited after a good play and eager for the next. It’s amazing how tiny changes can have big effects. Brock didn’t teach anyone anything, but he had the ability to make it work. My only fear, he is so systematic, he’ll eventually be figured out. He’s quick through his reads, he fakes, he misleads with his eyes… but it’s very Terminator; scanning to find “Your keys, your clothes and your motorcycle.” It’ll be figured out, if it isn’t changed regularly enough.

*_RESPECT_* cannnot be Commanded, Demanded, Earned, and shouldn't be Expected either. *_RESPECT_* is a gift that must be given of one's own free will. Otherwise, you get _FEAR_ instead. As a result of duress or intimidation. Oh, it is possible to earn someone's *_DISRESPECT ,_* though.
