Yah Kyle is a remarkable play caller. He knew having McCaffrey in the flat would make the linebacker bite long enough to get deebo in the end zone. His understanding of how defenses react to shifts and motions is what makes him special. Shanahan understands how to coach every position in football and how players are taught to respond.

whats crazy is that on film the niners can line up in those formations and run like 10 different plays out of it. -DB and LB playing back we hit a run play out of the formation to either left or right side -Everybody bites on the run to the left/right, hit a reverse sweep to the other side -Everybody bites on the run, play action pass -We got an answer for zone and man coverage Their film is so fun to watch! Thanks Johnny!

@@jonnydel He's good at building off of concepts he knows the opposition has either seen on film, or simply goes back to motions, formations, etc. that he has shown them earlier in the game. Show em the same look three different times and run a different twist on it each time. Tends to put defenses back on their heels and they quite literally start out-think themselves. So much window-dressing, deception and misdirection. He's really good at screwing up the keys defensive players typically rely on. It's one of the big reasons the 49er offense can snowball on opposing defenses like that. It's like a "shock and awe" effect that causes doubt, hesitation and confusion. You could see it in this game. By the end, the Philly defense was visibly mentally broken.

True story. One of the things that jumps off the screen for me every week is the way their skill players block. People rave about them as elite weapons with the football in their hands, and yeah, they're definitely every bit that, but the way they block for each other -- that's special. To me this is why Kittle is so emblematic of the culture they've created. He sets the tone.

in all the talk about Purdy being (or not being) elite, good, mvp, etc, everyone talks stats, system, athleticism, and stars around him. It's hardly ever mentions the mental part of it. He is ridiculously good and fast at processing what's happening on the field.

"If throwing a ball were the only aspect of playing quarterback, then this would be an easy position to evaluate. However, because of the dynamic role he plays on the team, a quarterback must have physical, mental, emotional and instinctive traits that go well beyond the mere ability to throw a football" -- Bill Walsh Walsh never pursued the guy with the big time arm. He valued mental toughness, the ability to recognize and assess what the defense is doing and the ability to deliver the ball accurately above all else. I think Bill would have loved Brock Purdy.

Great video as always. It's the same consistency we're getting from Purdy... This was one of the games where Purdy had to do a lot of processing but casuals who aren't paying attention would think it was just checkdowns to the first read because of Kyle's great play design. There were a couple of plays where he could've went for it and hit a player for a homerun, but the way they were moving there was really no reason to push it. You might be the only one who didn't skip those first two drives in their film breakdowns.

Purdy reminds me of an all time great hockey player, Nick Lidstrom. Lidstrom was a defenseman who played with star players in Detroit. His game never jumped off the screen. He wasn't super fast or flashy.. he was just extremely detailed and always a step ahead of all the faster players around him. When I watched his games with hockey players, they would marvel at his greatness. But when you watch him with casual fans they're like "yea, he's fine I guess" By the end of his career, he'd won 4 Stanley Cups. A true legend. I hope Purdy has the same great career and I'll be appreciative of every moment of it.

@DisappearingNightly
@DisappearingNightly 6 ай бұрын
That's such a cool analogy. I can't tell you how much that resonates for me. Long story short, 49er football and Detroit Red Wing hockey are pretty much ingrained in my soul and yeah, Nick was exactly that guy you described -- the type casual fans don't quite get. I mean clearly he had next level skills but you're right, but if you evaluated him as a player, there was no single aspect of his game that jumped out at you, no single thing that he was just plain physically better than everyone else at. It was like a million little things. Damn near always made the right play. A stick in the passing lane, playing the angles in his own zone impeccably, making a great first pass out of the zone, and honestly, did you ever see a player better at snuffing out a two on one rush? Oh and he could also score goals and quarterbacked the power play at an elite level. Seven Norris Trophies, and honestly, I thought he got robbed out of a couple others by the same kind of blindness or ignorance on the part of voters who, much as we're seeing with Purdy, failed to understand elite when it was staring them in the face.

@@DisappearingNightly *angrily shouts Chris Pronger while shaking fist in the air* Glad the analogy hits. He truly was elite at breaking up 2 v 1s, ala Purdy finding the hole in coverage when CMC is doubled. Loved reading your comment. Brings back some good memories. Red Wing hockey is a sacred thing if you ask me. Never made it to the Joe, but I had a dream that I did, and woke up in tears

@@travisov That's awesome. Especially the Pronger reference. Trying to think of a player Detroit fans hated more than that guy. Can't think of one. Kinda sad you never got to see a game at the Joe. It was a great venue. I mean, yeah it was kinda funky and ramshackle, but in that way it actually reminded me a little bit of Candlestick Park. Neither place was state of the art. Far from it. Let's just say they had character. But both were home to two of the greatest dynasties in the histories of their respective sports. And the crowds in both were loud and raucous. As a kid in Detroit, the Wings were the first sports team that really captured me. When they finally won the cup in '97, I'd already long since moved to SF and had seen the 49ers win five championships by then, but there was a guy in the crowd at the Joe that night holding up a sign that said something like "finally, I can die in peace" -- I always felt that sign spoke for a whole lot of us! Anyway, thanks for the unexpected exchange. Cheers!

I tried to stop watching football for a few years, for various reasons, but then the Niners decided to start playing well, and I got invested in the narratives of the team. I got really hooked on Brock's story, of course, so this year, I'm back to just watching football freely. I was never gonna be able to stop loving the game, but I tried, and I've been enjoying the season well enough, but I was putting some distance between my self and my fandom just to try and kinda hedge against anxiety (I have anxiety issues) and give myself an out. The game against the Eagles destroyed that hedge. More specifically, Deebo Samuel destroyed that hedge, and now I'm madly in love with him and everything he does. Yes, I love Brock and Kittle and CMC and Bosa and all the rest, but Deebo is the first player I've felt real devotion to since Kap (don't come at me; it's in the past). Deebo's the fuckin' man. That's all.

21:17 This play was the triple whammy that punctuated Nicholas Morrow's horrible day. First he has the misfortune to be the first defender Williams sees when he turns back looking for someone to hit. Then Brendel gets up on him. And *then* Burford comes flying in to smash him for the final seal block. That guy got abused by 3/5 of our O-line on this play. And lest we forget, this was after he'd already been shaken off by Deebo for this touchdown. (16:26) And burned by McCaffrey on this long pass play. (12:12) And probably a few other lowlights. :) Also, yay for double video! Another victory so nice, we have to break it down twice. Thanks, JD.

That CMC Rail route was very impressive. Completely took advantage of the slower LB trying to cover him in open territory - ran right past him - and the throw was perfect. Even if tightly covered that ball was EXACTLY where it needed to be with only CMC having a chance to catch it without any possibility of being deflected. I can't think of another QB playing who could've made that throw. Seeing it Live, I honestly thought Purdy had overthrown that pass. What a complete victory. This Niner team and this Niner QB are for real and are poised for a sixth ring. Blowout wins prove two things in my mind, the offense is much better than the opposing defense and the defense is much better than the opposing offense. SF has done it to several quality teams this year. Stay healthy Boys!! Thanks for the in depth analysis! Great job!

Great breakdown as always JD! I am always super amazed at Purdy during the games and constantly saying after a play “can’t wait to see that on JD’s breakdown”. The CMC rail route and BA’s 10 yard out on 3rd down when he has CMC wide open underneath. This was a massive butt kicking in the eagles backyard. Such a great win for the boys and us, for one day we got to hear the terrible eagles fans come up with every excuse in the book. Now they’re back to “still 10-2”…etc. it has to be great confidence for the boys to know they can dominate on the road which they may have to do again. Hurts just isn’t as good as Purdy when he’s for Ed to throw and can’t run.

About time that young whipper-snapper Purdy got a full season's worth of games in. What took him so long? 😉🤣 That first pass to Aiyuk. I have no idea how Purdy was able to process the D that fast. They show 6 man rush, rotate into cover 3 at the snap... Purdy reads it and gets to the 3rd receiver and throws the quick out with timing. Unreal. When he hit another deep-in-the-progression read on the next one to Kittle, I knew we were gong to be okay. On the vertical stretch from the Eagle 40 with 2 mins to go in the half, should he have hit Deebo instead of Aiyuk? Long, long ball but it looks like the sideline thinks he should've hit the more open deep guy. Kyle's victims of the day? Hassan Reddick & Nick Morrow. What a game from the OLine. Purdy didn't have a lot of time, but he had enough. I've been critical of his snapping but Brendl had a fantastic day blocking. Best team effort all season actually---hard to point a finger without hitting a good play... or a Philly security guard. 😉

That's a long throw and I figure you're referring to JT's vid saying he should've hit that. I just saw that. To me, with the 5 man-rush I'm perfectly fine with the underneath throw.

@@jonnydel I think it the Chase Daniel video this morning that mentioned the sideline reaction. I think everyone's okay with it... Chase, JT, you, me , the coaches. Body of work outweighs single plays IMO and Brock consistently shows he chooses the deep guy more often than not. The media could call him "No Checkdown Purdy," for how consistently he looks deep.

JT OSullivan on his QB school channel made a good point about the throw to BA on the out route at 9:40. The corner actually watches BA and breaks to him before Purdue throws. So the more open throw is the deep one to Deebo for a touchdown. Question is why didn’t Brock throw to Deebo?

Brock really does process quickly, and it's a lot easier to see it in the All-22s. The reason he's able to do this is high football IQ and a ton of study of scheme. Many QBs never reach this level of scheme understanding and execution and the speed at which he does it. Much of that is pure (mental) talent. And he's also physically very talented in specific ways that are perfect for a QB: pocket movement, short area quickness, etc. And that's enhanced with nearly perfect fundamentals. 21:35 was actually a combo block by Brendel and Burford, but Burford got most of it.

Once again another game where Purdy used his weapons as intended. Something Jimmy G never could do at the level Brock is doing it. Its good to see everyone getting in on the action too. There is no selfish players and everyone is getting fed. Also there is no "fat" on the team. Every athlete is playing at a high level and giving 110% on every play and it shows. Several of the play you showed any other player would have gone down right away or out of bounds. Jenning, Deebo hit the breaks turn it back in side and turn a 10yd play into a 30yd play or score. I just love watching it all come together and silencing the haters and doubters.

The tunnel screen was a thing of beauty. People don't give Purdy enough credit, and it's embarrassing how he can pick apart defensess. Saying he can't hit the long ball, so what. I will take 10-20 yard passes all day long. Quarterbacks are taught you take what they give you. Having only 2-3 seconds to make a pass, you have to make quick decisions. Calling purdy a system Quarterback is insulting, as any Quarterback you name is a system QB: Brady, Maholmes, Rogers, Manning, Mayfield, Lawrence, C.J. Shroud, all work within a system designed by the head coach and offensive coordinator. People are just upset their team passed on him 7 times. I don't know if Purdy can stay poised enough to come-back from a double digit deficit, but you're not coached too, your coached to get a lead and keep it. If the defense can keep the game close, then yes it's possible. The three losses were a missed field goal against the Browns, and defensive struggles against the Vikings and the Bengals (Purdy playing with a concussion). Injuries did play a role in the skid, and before you pull out the "that's not an excuse", think about how many times you have used it. With everyone healthy and playing, the 49'ers will be hard to beat. I've been a NINER fan for 40 years, And this is the best starting roster we have seen in a long time. Give Purdy his due, because your going to be seeing him someday, get used too it.

3:30 Baldy said he was about to throw to Aiyuk but Aiyuk slipped lol I've realized that Purdy's playstyle is the type you only really appreciate when you break down the film. Since most fans just watch the broadcast/highlights/box scores, they can't see how great Purdy is actually playing. A real shame. At least he's winning over more and more talking heads. Rex Ryan just doubled down this week on his Purdy-Montana comparison. Maybe you could do a comparison video on who Purdy is actually most like. People say he reminds them of Montana, Young or Brees and I'm wondering which comparison is most accurate🤔

I really feel that Kittle's blocking ability is being unfairly overshadowed over this last stretch of games. Sure, blocking isn't as sexy as Purdy and CMC having mvp candidate years or any of Deebo explosive plays, and even when it is regarded, it's hard not focusing on one of the GOAT OLs in Trent Williams, also in a carreer year. But Kyle's offense has always been focused on unmatched scheming and blocking down the field, and man, Kittle's been destroying defenses on that front. Just look at what nr 85 is doing in both of Deebo's TDs in this game. It's just unreal,you can't hope to put a stop to a guy like Deebo in stride when you have that kind of blocking on one and most time more of your defensive backs. Sure, Kittle hits highlights for his huge YAC plays, but he's hands down the best TE in football right now when you combine his receiving prowess and then just straight up carrying guys for 50 yards in blocking every.single.game. Seriously, go back to our last 3 games and look for 85# on any of our big plays.
