I also like this way of visualising the 4th dimension but I’ve been thinking if there are other relatively good ways of visualising it. When it comes to normal 3D golf, the golf ball rests upon a 2D surface/ground, a surface that can bend in the third dimension, “gravity dimension”, creating hills and valleys. In 4D gold the ball would rest on a 3D “surface”/ground that can bend in an additional dimension. Maybe one could show only the 3D surface in 3D space and exclude the height dimension/exclude directly showing how “high up” in the gravity dimension the ball or a particular place of the surface is. Not seeing the height of a particular point in of the 3D surface might be a problem but maybe it can be represented by vectors or concentric ellipsoids, just like you can represent height on a normal 2D map of 3D space by using concentric circles. A 2D map excludes the least relevant dimension which is the height dimension and maybe that would be the best dimension to exclude when representing a 4D world as well. Or the best dimension to be able to “scroll through” since it might be the least relevant one.
@colinbrown79472 жыл бұрын
@@farrankhawaja9856 did you watch the previous video? Its actually not the same method, instead it involves rotating the 3d world inside the 4d space. The other vid explains it better than me obviously. The 4d minecraft like game is the closest, but I think it only involves rotation in one axis

@@mr_indie_fan The exceptions are all Japanese. FromSoftware has done pretty well with Sekiro and Elden Ring. And even then, the "innovation" per se is quite limited. They just have a very well defined niche and take some risks within it. All of the design elements of both Wii and Switch were very clearly designed to work well with Nintendo's family-friendly, playful ethos. If you really want innovation you need to look beyond big money, because only there people take big risks. Which is why most of the creativity in the videogame market comes from indie devs.

It looks like it's just 3D slices of a 4D space, which is a common way to visualize a 4D object. Lowering a dimension one bit, imagine a sphere in 3D space and a plane moving from north to south pole without tilting. In the plane you would first see a point that expands into bigger and bigger circle until it hits equator, after which it will shrink back to a point. Now, the interesting part is how it's actually implemented, i.e. how the controls work. Instead of moving a hyperplane (3D space), it might be rotation, or combination of the two. I'd be interested in the particulars.

The fading effect is a really clear and simple presentation of distance in the extra dimension. I wonder if that could be enhanced further by binocular disparity in VR... so for something close in 3D but distant in 4D, you need to diverge your eyes to focus on it. You might thus perceive it like a large object far away, except 3D motion parallax would tell you it's not that, it's just more subtly 'distant'. Sounds trippy... or maybe headachey (especially to code!).
