Four days, 3 nights in the Rawah Wilderness of northern Colorado. After passing the mass exodus of Labor Day visitors on the first few miles hiking in, we saw more wildlife than people the rest of the trip including a lot of moose.
Quite a bit of smoke in the air the first couple days from all the wildfires in the northwest, but things eventually cleared up to a decent degree. 26 miles total with stays at Twin Crater Lakes, Rawah Lake #2 and Camp Lake.

Great video. Excellent footage. Good commentary. No music--I love the quiet of the backcountry. I would have been scared of the moose because they tend to be mean. You sad the camping at Twin Crater Lakes was not the best & that there was better camping on the trail before it. Was the better camping at the intersection of the trail to Twin Crater Lakes, or along it? Keep up the good work.

Hey there. Been quite a while since I've been up that way. As I recall there were a number of well used sites along the trail to Twin Crater Lakes. That moose... I was walking up the trail and rounded a corner and there he was 20 yards ahead. I froze and then figured I'd start filming because if he was going to take me out there was no way I'd out run him lol. A great memory now, but not such a fantastic feeling right there in the moment lol.

Great video! Not too much talking, yet informative, lots of great shots without walking and shaky cam, and such a great wilderness. Headed to this area for five nights, thanks for the giving us an idea of what to expect!

I stayed at that exact spot at Rawah lake 2 in July of 2017. Loved every second of that trip except the drooling elevation gain of the west branch trail lol.

I also stayed at the spot by lower camp lake most recent in August 2021. Deadfall now surrounds it and there is a precarious tree that creaks all night long along with all the various carving on the trees from trips years past...dead and leaning on one of the others. Still a safe(ish) and clear(ish) spot. Thank goodness the Cameron Peak Fire spared this wilderness. The water off of Rawah Creek near its respective ponds is some of the best tasting water one can find.

Very nice video. Well made. Did you guys hear any elk bugling? I figured you may run into elk in the high country.

Richie Nell Nope no bugling. If I remember right we caught a couple glimpses of some elk above upper Camp Lake. Moose seem to be the stars of the show in this area :)

@@Wanderlust073 Thanks. What dates were you guys there? Just wondering if there may be enough elk to hunt early September or if there were too many hikers/people. ?
