You would get better performance mounting the routerr in the loft and keeping the losses in the coax to a minimum by keeping the coax under one meter. As the SNR is an important factor. Then you could have run Ethernet back into the room and fitted a WiFi access point if needed

Yeah. I was going to say worth trying the router in the loft first.

defo the right thing to do. you get significant loss at high frequency especially on that kind of coax length and quality you will lose several db.

This. Was about to comment the exact same thing :P You lose 10+ dB easily in that 10 metres of cheap ass coax. I live in the woods, LTE signals come in weak. I have outdoor "active" aerial, all RF magic happens inside it, data comes in and goes out through an Ethernet cable. Power also. Works pretty good.

Can I just say thank you for putting out videos with those internet speeds - must of taken an age to upload videos! I was in the same boat with 4G modem, low speeds but I could live with it, however the modem would constantly just shit itself despite and need a reboot constantly. They've rolled out infrastructure now and 75Mbps with a theoretical maxium of 100Mbps - a lot more stable and very limited dropouts and downtime.

I’ve read that having one antenna in a horizontal orientation and the other in a vertical pointing at the cell tower helps get a better signal, (antenna dipoles at 90 degrees to each other for clarity)

Keep the cable as short as possible. The longer the cable the more issues you'll get. It's not recommended to have cables longer than 1.5 mtrs. In this instance you would be better off putting the router near the antenna.

The loss per metre on that diameter, cable must be pretty horrendous? Especially at those frequencies?

This is the MR6400 router. Versions 1, 2 & 4 have external 4G antennas. V3 has internal 4G antennas but looks identical.

It would be even better outside the wall and even better if you could get the router in the loft too I found a directional aerial better than a general one
@herrtomas6729
@herrtomas6729 10 ай бұрын
The antennae would still be better outside as the roof tiles will attenuate the signal. Can vary greatly depending on your actual tiles - some older ones have quite a high iron content which i s worst of all.

Huge losses on that cable. Runs should be as short as possible. Despite the coverage checkers saying otherwise I’ve got 5G coverage, a huge improvement on 4G, 621Mbps download 129Mbps upload, Router placed in a window recess upstairs, internal aerials only.

3:05 Hmm ... 24.5/7.25 MBit/s looks better as before and I thinking a better 5G router should be a better invest ... 😮 Do you have tested your router at the roof direct at the antenna too? Wonder me that 90° rotating be really helpful here after the sender sends horizontal only.

Hmmm, tempted to try this as I am now using my iPhone connected to my PC as copper broadband is so slow, but it occasionally seems to lose the 5G internet. I can see the mast from my window so hopefully shouldn’t be too hard to line up.

My copper landline is so poor too. I’ve now gone down the route of a 4G/5G router (running a Smarty Sim Card inside) speeds are great. More than 4x speeds now than via landline.

Been reading up a little on the different types of antennas, and unless you live somewhere really remote where it’s very unlikely you could pick up signal from more than one mast, you maybe better off using an omnidirectional antenna as they can pick up signal from more than one mast and I think even small villages on edge of town big enough to have a train station and a McDonald’s 😂, there’s a good chance of picking up more than one mast if you’re quite high up with little obstacles in your way. I do wonder how much (if any) difference could be made paying more for decent quality coaxial cable? If it’s similar to the TV aerial coax cables, I know the Chord Company do make some and I think QED (Hifi speaker leads, RCA cables, all kinds of AV leads)

I used two aerials in my loft to get higher signals around 5 decibels gain. But now just use a spare 5G phone on usb hotspot with 3 unlimited data for a speed of 20 MB/s Download 11 MB/s Upload 😅 good for 4K streaming

0:04 Now we have September 2023 - why do you use old 4G/LTE with 2 antennas MIMO at these times? 😮 Sure do you have bad rates of 12.8/2.28. My data rate just now with my Samsung Galaxy A50 with one antenna use here: 24.09/3.19 Mbit/s at the first floor height (just tested with non-optimum server). One of my friend how is trucker use at home in Germany and drive through UK since two years a 5G 4 antennas MIMO routers, local router inhouse around 300/50 Mbit stable. 600/100 Mbit is fucking too expensive, of course no monatly limit data use in Germany, outsite with 200 GByte limit per month/country! For UK the older 5G one antenna (limit 150/25 Mbit) router works fine, mostly use "only 4G" after UK rarely use 5G technology outside London. 😂 At home family use mostly smartphones, with Switch and Xbox. My test here at my home accept since start of 5G (and stopped 3G!) around 3x 2 MIMO antennas 3x150 MBit down - with 4x 2 MIMO antennas should it be 600 MBit theoretical (no testing device before three years!) but I have here stable fiber since January 2012. Typical Huawei router works fine but my little computer stuff shrinks since I start 1986 with peak 1997 with over 20 machine running 24h/7d. Now my smartphones are more as my regularly computers here and I not need this heavy speed here.

1:00 As Computer-Specialist I thinking it is better to use them better direct at the router (as ears) - but fucking short cable outside antenna here. If you have a climate roof it should be better use shorter better-cable (just around 1 meter) and install antenna as L with direction NS and WE at one horizontal level. Mostly do you buy only an antenna - for inhouse should help wood to hold them stable. For outside do you need aluminium and lightning safety stuff - but this you should known self. 😂 No Woman Accept Factor (WAF) but direct mounted at the wall works too if you stay at highest floor - not need roof all time! Typical bricks or wood can be better as behind roofed solar modules!
