Serendipitous moment!!!! I ordered one of these from sigma sports here in the Uk about an hour before I saw this video because I was fed up of the companion app on my iPad dropping cadence or heart data when in the middle of a work out. Sod’s law made it happen right in the middle of an effort meaning you can’t pick the iPad up and fiddle with it when it does it. This video makes me feel happier about the cost 🤪

I've been using the Zwift companion app, for some time, to bridge the various Bluetooth connections. However, I've been getting more and more mid-ride dropouts (of all connections), so I finally bit the bullet and bought a Viiiiva HRM. During my first Zwift session with it, the companion app dropped out several times (no problem, as it's only used in a supplementary mode, now) but the (now direct to Apple TV) Bluetooth connections remained stable. I bought the wahoo Kickr and 4k Apple TV 3 weeks ago. My 1st few days of syncing the 3rd sensor through the companion app were frustrating and had me seriously considering buying the Viiiiva. Since then I've had success connecting the cadence sensor through the companion app with the only hiccup being on one ride where my wifi connection went down in the middle of a ride. That was also my first experience riding Solo in Zwift :)

Funny I was thinking of this when you guys were talking about this issue on your round table discussion video. To add, it also made our lives a little simpler as we originally had 2x wahoo cadence sensors running side by side. Finally it also bridges Ant+ only devices.

Great vid. Can I use this to connect to both trainer road and zwift at same time? So use Bluetooth from wahoo Kickr for zwift and the use ANT + from kicker to convert to BT and send to trainer road.

They both do the task. The Viiiiva will be more convenient for a lot of people as they're already putting on a HR strap for each ride.

Just FYI: the Zwift Companion app in combination with an Apple Watch as HR monitor and Wahoo Cadence sensor works quite well on Apple TV, setup however can be somewhat painful.

The Zwift Companion app still (as of Sept. 2022) hasn't managed to add ANT+ sensors to the bridging functionality though, so it's the Viiiiva (config via Android & iOS) or NPE Cable (config via iOS only).

Computer died so we went to Apple TV for her. We discovered all the methods and pitfalls by spending a lot of time mashing buttons. This would have been nice a couple days ago :). My wife's phone is not ANT+ and her cadence sensor is, so for now I will assume we are SOL in regards to cadence with the exception of a ANT+ --> BLE converter.

How ANT+ devices could I pair through the HR strap and app? I tend not to trust my kickr power even with a good spin down and would like to pair my power meter. I do this when I run my home kickr through the lap top.

Hi Shane, Made my choice easier, thanks! If I am going to wear a HR strap anyway, using that as the bridge device as well makes a lot of sense. Not to plug any sellers, but was able to get this with 20% off if I used Google Shopping, so it all ended up costing less than the NPE device. The seller should come up in a Google search at $64.95 USD then with Google it is -20% from that. I do have a question, should I bundle my Garmin V3 pedals as the power source with cadence and HR as the Viiiiva? Or just let Apple TV select my Kinetic Road Machine Control as Power and Control combined? Thanks!

I dont know if there been an update for this but I don’t get this to work at all. In my phone app I have the Viiiiva and powerpedals connected. When going in to Zwift in ATV, the ATV don’t find the viiiiva or pedals cause it is connected to my phone? When turning BT off on my phone it shows up on ATV but same issue as before

Not got an Apple TV but presume the CABLE (which I do have) could do same thing? I just use a CABLE when want to get a Garmin ANT+ only HR strap into Zwift over iOS. Presume also if Wahoo "got round" to having inbuilt cadence like a Tacx Neo it would also not be an issue. That was one of the major reasons why went Neo over Kickr.

You can remove the Remote of the Apple TV and then you should have 3 connections. Your iPhone can control the Apple TV even with a shortcut From control centre.

You can also use an IR remote (e.g. Apple TV remote or probably some 3rd party IR remote) and decouple the bluetooth remote

Shane, Just an update. I ordered the sensor, bridged it to the 4iii power meter and as you described, works like a charm. I was using companion before and with my iPhone freezing and stopping my ride, this was a great suggestion/review. I know maybe at times you probably feel what you do is becoming hours of hard work, but I hope I can assure you that your channel has advised me positively, a ton on cycling. So a simple thank you and as well as your peers.

Not in the same way as this. I believe it can estimate cadence with the accelerometers only.

Hi Shane I need to use bluetooth headphones so my family don’t have to listen to the music while i am using my spinning bike. I want more out of my training. So i planing on buying a Kicker Core instead of the spinner bike and use Zwift on Apple TV. I hope you can help me with answer a question for me? :-) Is it possible to Connect Kickr core, 4iiii Viiiiva heartrate monitor and wahoo cadence sensor using only one bluetooth channel (via the 4iiii ViiiiVA) on the Apple TV, and use the other channel to the bluetooth headphones? wow I had set my apple tv up and never hit the connection issue. I use the viiva to forward a garmin ANT+ cadence sensor since i didn't want to pay up for another bluetooth sensor.

Hi and thanks for this! So I see lots of stuff about cadence, but my question is about the Sterzo. I have to use Companion to pair my Kickr (with cadence), my TickrX, and my Sterzo to ATV. Problem is that pairing through Companion is quirky and frustrating, and the Sterzo pairs much easier with the ATV. I love using the Sterzo but have to have HR, so when it just won't pair through Companion I have to forego steering. Will the Sterzo pair through this, and if so will it pair easier than through Companion? I'm hoping for a solution.

Hi Shane, as my 1st gen kickr does not read power anymore well enough, I would like to link my ANT+ powermeter including cadence (power2max) PLUS the kicker via bluetooth as controllable trainer PLUS the 4iiiii as HR strap and bridge for the ANT+ power plus cadence. Is this possible? will the power2max still be working with the controllable trainer eg. for ERG mode? Thanks in advance if you have an answer!

I’d first look at the Kickr. Does it need an optical sensor clean, a new belt, a free hub service? You can link the ANT ID of a power meter to the Kickr via the Wahoo Fitness app. From there... you’ll need to test out what works via the bridging etc. it sounds like a complex setup that could work.

For HR, they're one and the same. For features they're very different. The Viiiiva being an ANT+ to BLE bridge.

I have no idea what I am doing but all of my stuff connects?? I have an 18 Kickr, climb, TickrX, and Wahoo Cadence. When I pull up Zwift they all come alive on my phone and I then mirror to TV. I do not even bother with Apple TV?? Is that not ok? Why don’t people just mirror and forget the Apple TV?

I'm sure this is by design, so they're aware of it. As for them allowing more connections in future AppleTVs... not sure. It could be a cost cutting exercise (maybe licensing chips with only 3-4 BLE connections is cheaper)
