Hello everyone! Welcome!
On March 23, 2023, President of the United States of America- Joe Biden and First Lady of the United States- Jill Biden visited Canada for the first time under the presidency. The visit comes as is traditional that the first country the newly elected President visits is the neighboring country to the North. This was originally delayed due to President Biden being elected during the COVID-19 pandemic. Fast forward to the recent North American Leaders Summit January 2023 in Mexico, Biden announced he planed to visit Canada in March and come March, the dates were unveiled as the 23rd-24th with a days stay in Ottawa.
Well, let me tell you that this day was an adventure. Waking up early in Toronto and driving with two good friends all the way to Ottawa to see Air Force One for the first time sounded amazing. However, once we got there, the weather didn't seem to cooperate. After a crazy rain period over the majority of the morning, the entire airport was left covered in a thick layer of fog with very limited visibility. And it didn't seem to get better. Can't beat Mother Nature. The security was nuts (as expected) and a big shoutout to the officers for helping us along the way, trying almost every spot out and in the end being restricted to the T&T Supermarket Lot on the north side of the field. So it goes ;)
Air Force One (Boeing VC-25A) departed Andrews AFB and made north for Canada with SAM46 (the Boeing C-32A) following twenty minutes behind. The two flights both landed on RWY 32 between 1815 and 1835hrs local and taxied over to the Canadian Reception Centre (CRC). With visibility down to only a few hundred feet, all we were able to see were the roll outs and taxi to the CRC. We did attempt a shot at the motorcade, however the light was pretty dark, fog was everywhere and secret service and local police had closed the majority of the roads off.
Nevertheless, that was Air Force One's visit to Ottawa, not entirely the way we wanted things to plan out but definitely a day to remember.
All the best,
Ernest G.
