The Etsumi-Nan Line (越美南線 Etsumi Nansen, "Etsumi South Line") is a railway line in Gifu Prefecture, Japan, operated by the third-sector operator Nagaragawa Railway (長良川鉄道 Nagaragawa Tetsudō). The line connects Mino-Ōta Station in Minokamo with Hokunō Station in Gujō. It is the only railway line operated by the Nagaragawa Railway. The line was originally operated by Japanese National Railways (JNR). JNR planned to connect the Etsumi-Nan Line and Etsumi-Hoku Line ("Etsumi North Line"), but the plan was never realized. The north line was later succeeded by West Japan Railway Company (JR West), while the south line was taken by Nagaragawa Railway, a newly founded third-sector company, in 1986. As the company name suggests, the line runs along Nagara River. As a consequence of Japan's declining population and frequent natural disasters (such as typhoons and heavy snowfall), the company is facing financial difficulties.

I noticed that too! Very scary when that happens as that can usually lead to a derailment. Signal went green too, so I’m really not sure why that switch wasn’t aligned. 私もそれに気づいた! それが通常脱線につながる可能性があるので、それが起こると非常に恐ろしい。 信号も緑色になったので、なぜそのスイッチが整列していなかったのか分かりません。

I read recently on a Wales Video that there is a design for those Points whereby the wheels of the train going one way, change the points for the next train (sprung operated Points) which will be travelling in the opposite direction. It is only used on relatively slower moving Trains AND on single Rail systems.. It saves having people at all Points to Change the Points.. I accepter the explanation as the Light rail in wales gave enough time to observe it in action..

The blend of natural beauty and man-made beauty are marvelous! I appreciate the engineering that went into all of that infrastructure! Is this rail route more of a tourist line? It seemed like a tour guide was on this run. Her voice was beautiful.
@makik3762
@makik3762 Жыл бұрын
It looks like a tourist line now, but that’s not how it started. How can I say this? Much of Japan’s train lines in remote rural areas were built for the benefits of the communities when roads were few and poor, people had no cars and there were barely no means for travel. Japan National Railroad, the former national railroad network , was largely made up of such rural transportations before the roads were improved for a better traveling for cars, and bigger trunk line connections between the fewer but developing population and industrial centers.. Then the wholesale drain of the younger workforce to the big cities happened, and rural communities were left in increasingly severe population decline and stagnation, which in turn caused more people to leave. Rural railroads which were built in the hope for area vitalization suffered poor usership. Many were abandoned and what’s left struggled for survival and downsized. That’s what you are looking at. There are many pristine beautiful places. Some enjoy modern tourism and attempts for attracting the tourists are made, but keeping rural railroad services going are not getting easier.
@Dulcimerist
@Dulcimerist Жыл бұрын
@@makik3762 Yes, I assumed these railroads started out as primary means of transportation. Building them also created a lot of jobs. Now that most people have automobiles and populations have shifted, tourism might be the main source of income for these rail lines in the present day. I know I would love to ride on these rail lines, even though I would have no other purpose in traveling to their destinations.

I had the sound turned down as i do not have any Japanees AND was pistening to my choice of music AND the voice irritated me too...I had a ball watching all around and wondering HOW they came up with that route well over 100 years ago .All over the world there are BRILLIANT Engineering feats and when one conciders the fact there was so little communication facilities. The years from 1850 or so to 1920 was a MASSIVE era for projects like this Line under very rough and little or no machinary to relieve the Manual workload.. I have so much admeration ? for those generations. [forgive the spellings please]
