When we lived in Alberta in the late 1960's you could camp a tent near the Hotel and use the heated pool for free , times have changed !!

I've stayed at this hotel twice. It's truly amazing. But what is more spectacular is the surrounding scenery. Around mid to late September, standing on the hotel steps, looking out across Lake Louise at the mountains about mid-morning is unbelievably breath-taking. It's been my greatest experience traveling. I want to go again soon. (NOTE: If you go, make sure to hike up the mountain. There's a little cafe at the top that serves great tea and pastries.)

It's so beautiful June-August! If you go too early or too late in the year the paths can be icy or snow covered. Also the lake is not that nice to look at when it is frozen over. I'd recommend doing the hike up to Lake Agnes Tea House when you are there and if you have time, keep hiking to the second tea house as well.

I worked at this hotel…the summer of ‘76. Other than the scenery, and the original hotel, nothing looks familiar. I remember during one of many staff parties…the staff decided to jump into a lake that is glacier water! We didn’t do that a second time…

The best time to visit is in summer. Spring might be still a bit cold. It term of getting there - it depends what you want to do there. If you don't plan to rent the car and doing any hiking there - probably booking one of bus tours to visit both Lake Louise and Moraine Lake is the best option. Moraine Lake is very close to Lake Louise and not accessible by car anymore. Highly recommend to visit Moraine lake as well - one of the top attractions in that area. @@lvfreeAdventures I love sightseeing beautiful places. I like taking photos of beautiful scenery. That place at Fairmont Hotel and also Moraine Lake that you suggest are perfect. So I have to figure out to go to Banff and stay at hotel or motel for 1-2 days, I think. And there should be bus tour services that I can get from Banff to Lake Louise and Moraine Lake that I can reserve once I am at Banff? What you suggest? The price of the hotel to stay is expensive now! Thank you for your suggestions!

@@teddybear1968 - Yes, staying in Banff and exploring Banff, and then taking bus tour or shuttle is best option... even though it is expensive in Banff - but worth to do it at least once in life time. There are stories about hunted rooms and accidents in Fairmont... but not sure what is true. I never felt anything but relaxation and peace in this hotel when we visit... it is expensive though

July- August is the best time to travel to Lake Louise and Banff National park - but it also the busiest time!

@@lvfreeAdventures “best time” is very subjective. My wife and I visited 10 times over 20 years. The fall was always our best time due to the lower volume of people, the beautiful fall colors, and cool or down right cold temps. Thanks for sharing. Brings back a lot of great memories.
