안녕하세요 Jmh Walker 입니다. 오늘은 서대문구 독립문에서 출발하여 홍제역까지 골목길을 걸어봤습니다. 정식명칭은 독립근린공원으로 1992년 8월 15일 개원한 독립공원은 조국의 독립을 위해 항거하다 옥고를 치렀던 애국지사의 자주독립 정신을 후손에게 기억시키기 위해서 만들어졌습니다. 그동안 독립공원은 공원 입구에 주택ㆍ상가지역이 무질서하게 자리 잡고 주요 시설이 산재되어 있어 시민들의 공원 이용에 불편이 많았으나 2007년 4월 16일부터 추진한 독립공원 재조성 사업을 통해 2009년 10월 28일 재개장하여 독립문, 역사관, 독립관, 순국선열추념탑 등을 유기적으로 연결함과 동시에 시민 이용에 불편을 초래했던 노후한 공원시설을 정비하여 공원을 방문하는 학생, 관광객, 시민고객들의 편의를 최대화하였습니다. 특히, 독립문은 그동안 시민들의 접근을 제한하였으나, 서대문 독립공원 재조성 사업으로 인하여 112년 만에 시민들에게 개방하게 되었습니다.

Hello, this is Jmh Walker. Today, I started from Dongnimmun in Seodaemun-gu and walked down the alley to Hongje Station. Independence Park, whose official name is Independence Neighborhood Park, opened on August 15, 1992, was created to remind future generations of the spirit of independence of the patriot who was imprisoned for protesting for his country's independence. In the meantime, Independence Park had many inconveniences for citizens in using the park due to the housing and commercial areas being located in a disorderly manner at the entrance of the park and major facilities being scattered. However, through the Independence Park redevelopment project that began on April 16, 2007, the park was restored in October 2009. It reopened on the 28th of every month to organically connect Dongnimmun Gate, the History Hall, the Independence Hall, and the Patriotic Patriots' Memorial Tower, and at the same time, the old park facilities that caused inconvenience to citizens were renovated to accommodate students, tourists, and citizens visiting the park. Convenience has been maximized. In particular, Dongnimmun Gate has restricted access to citizens, but due to the Seodaemun Independence Park redevelopment project, it has been opened to citizens for the first time in 112 years.

I went here in 1999 so I could take a photo of the gate. At the time, there was no park, no apartment buildings nearby and a fence surrounded the gate so no one could walk under it. I loved seeing Inwangsan up close and I even loved seeing the overpass highway beside Dongnimmun. That day, staff from the Prison Museum encouraged me to enter the museum grounds and tour it, and the trip was very worthwhile. Thank you for filming this important area. ❤
