Bowing is a very deep part of Japanese culture. It's seen throughout many aspects of life in their culture, but before boarding any flight, all gate agents line up in a row and offer a simultaneous bow. If you happen to arrive for check in before counters are officially open, you get a bow then as well. In fact, this Saturday I'll post my flight on ANA's A380 and I did get to the counter before check-in and recorded the whole ceremony. Once on the plane, after the door is closed, but before the safety briefing, all the flight attendants line up in their assigned cabins and bow, and then ll ground crews give one final bow as the plane leaves the gate, which is what you saw here. It's a very special and unique aspect of flying on Japanese airlines or in Japan.

@sla31 how come at 21:20 during takeoff the ailerons go up and down why does that happen?? I can’t find a definitive answer and it seems to happen on every take off in the 787.
@sla319 ай бұрын
I'm guessing you're not finding the answer you are looking for because you're probably referencing the flaperon and not the aileron. So, the aileron is the long rectangular control surface at the tip of the wing. The flaperon is the larger square control surface towards the base of the wing, between the two main flap sections. The "flaperon" is a hybrid control surface unique to the 767, 777, and 787. It is a blend between an aileron and flap, hence the name. It serves two purposes. It helps control roll of the aircraft like an aileron, but also helps increase lift during takeoff and landing like the flaps. The reasons it moves so much during takeoff is basically to limit wear and tear on the aircraft. When takeoff power is applied, hydraulic power is removed from the flaperons, as not to stress the actuators for an extended duration, which causes them to drop due to gravity. They are then slowly lifted by the rushing air.

@@asafblasbergvideographer I'm working on that. I've actually been filming in full HDR since I got the iPhone 13 Pro. So nearly a year now. And my current channel trailer that plays anytime you visit my channel's main page is viewable in full HDR. The problem with my other videos is their length. I was just discussing this with another viewer. Unfortunately, based on the equipment I use to film and edit, the only HDR exporting options I have are Apple ProRes or an m4v file. Apple ProPes is great, but its exported file sizes are HUGE. Massively eclipsing KZbin's 250GB file size limit. As I upload now, this 7 hour flight is already pushing the limits at around 200GB. The other option I have, which is much more compressed is the m4v file type, but it is not an accepted file format for KZbin. So, I've been looking into ways to convert files and not lose any quality. But so far I haven't been able to find a solution. In the end, my videos are filmed in HDR right now, but KZbin doesn't recognize it in the file type I upload in.

For nervous flyers the Dreamliner is a dream. It can fly above FL42 and avoids turbulence better than most older planes.
@sla31 Жыл бұрын
Well that’s true in a lot of cases, however, there is a major downside to the 787 which can actually cause increased anxiety in nervous flyers. And that is the non-traditional dimable windows. A lot of people who have anxieties around Flying are people who get claustrophobic. And they need to sit next to windows to help alleviate those fears. 787 crews can override and even lock out window control. This can literally be a nightmare for someone who specifically booked a window because of their fear, only to have it locked closed and they can’t control it now.

Another amazing video, and the views are beyond stunning. Question: on the longer flights, do you ever have the urge to sleep? ☺ And if so, how do you fight it? Reason I ask is because I'm still uneasy with turbulence, so I purposely try to stay awake as long as I can (the day before), so that I would be tired enough to sleep. Doesn't always work though, as travel keeps me wired. 😂
@sla312 жыл бұрын
I do often want to sleep haha. Although, since I hold the camera by hand, my arm often gets tired and falls asleep anyway, so that helps keep me awake 😂. Otherwise I usually just watch pre downloaded shows on my phone. I actually try not to drink any caffeine the days before I fly or on days when I’m flying. In an attempt to get as good a nights sleep before hand as possible. So it’s kind of the exact opposite of what you do haha 😂

Well, we hit bumps in the taxiway. See, over time taxiways and even runways can start to have “ruts” form. Especially taxiways where planes continuously have their wheels on the same exact spots. And with centerlines, planes wheels are almost always moving over the same exact spots. Over years and thousands and thousands of planes moving over them, the concrete and base rock starts to compress down and ruts form. You can actually see the ruts with the way the light is reflecting off the taxiway we cross over. That’s what caused that shaking.

Thanks my friend. I quite like the 787 as a passenger, but I avoid flying on them for the channel. The dimming windows, although technologically cool, are a nightmare to film though. The window is never 100% clear and often the camera ends up picking up "rainbow" looking distortions through it. And, even more bothering, the crews can lock the passenger controls and auto dim all the windows and then you can't change it. So, I only fly 787's when there isn't any other option. I also really enjoyed Singapore. One of my favorite cities now. I didn't have a chance to visit little India though! Next time! Thanks for watching my friend!

is it normal for that flap to be moving up and down so much before v1?
@sla312 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is. The piece you see there is actually not a flap, rather it's a hybrid control surface called a flaperon. It's half flap, half aileron. It's designed to assist the aileron with its job of controlling attitude, while at the same time helping the flaps create more lift. So, it moving around like that is normal as it moves in conjunction with eh regular aileron at the tip of the wing to help keep the plane level.

It's pretty simply really. I use iPhones and I hold the camera by hand. Sometimes simple is best.
@GSU_Panther_Nation Жыл бұрын
@@sla31 but then, there's always a risk that there may be scenes where the iPhone camera moves a bit due to your hand getting tired from filming it. I would ask other aviation geeks on the same question, and see how they would answer
@sla31 Жыл бұрын
@@GSU_Panther_Nation you're more than welcome to ask anyone else you wish. But I don't just hold the camera because I want to make it harder on myself haha. Believe me, I wish I could just mount it. But there are several issues with mounting the camera with a suction cup. First, some airlines just don't allow it. So, it's against the rules to do it any differently. Second, even on airlines that allow it, often times crew members will see it and still tell you to remove the mount. And here's the thing. It may be allowed, and you may know it. But if a crew member says to stop doing something, you have to stop. So, at least 50% of the time you're going to be told your can't use a mount anyway. And last, you may think that the quality of your footage will be better if the camera is mounted vs holding it, but it won't be. See, no one even really notices the small variations because of your hand moving. What people do notice is the footage being distorted, filled with ripples, and being full of vibrations. See when you mount a camera to a plane that is going hundreds of miles per hour, being propelled by jet engines, there are a lot of vibrations. Those vibrations get transferred directly into your mount and thereby into the lens of the camera. When you mount a camera like an iPhone to the plane, all of those little vibrations ruin the footage. It comes out looking like you fired though a clear bowl of jello. And that, to me, is far worse than any tiny movements you see by the subtle movements of your arm/hand.
@GSU_Panther_Nation Жыл бұрын

It is a big plane. I believe Japan Airlines has their configuration at around 200 passengers. So, it is a big plane, but there are a lot that are bigger. This is the smallest 787, so both the 787-9 and 10 are bigger. The 777-200 and 300 are bigger. Various A340's and A350's and of course the 747 and A380 are all bigger. So, this is kind of the small end of the big planes, if that makes sense haha. Thanks for watching my friend!

Super .but show the full flight.

This was the full flight... There was 15 minutes cut out and that was time spent at the gates when we weren't moving, or the few brief times I was talking to the flight attendants...

Did you go to Japan airlines, do you think Japan airlines and American Airlines are better?
@sla312 жыл бұрын
I like American Airlines. I worked for American Airlines many years ago, and even though their product today is subpar at best, I still have a soft spot in my heart for American. That said, Japan airlines blows American out of the.
