To whom shall we pray? World peace is not achieved by prayer (otherwise we would have been there decades ago). It’s achieved by brave men willing to stand up against oppression, thats all. BTW, people are praying less and are less religious every year. I guess that does not bode well for world peace.

I used to work these flights when I worked mids at Arinc. Since it's day time in this video, it would be night time in the states. Since this flight is a 777, it would be a radio check in on HF, confirm frequencies, give a SELCAL check and I wouldn't talk to that flight again until leaving my airspace.... Ahh the good times...lol

HNL allocates parking differently than most. AA, I thought, parked on trml 2 and UA had the G gates all to themselves. Guess they mix & match for some reason. Never seen Guam like this before. Andersen Air Base ( 22:35 )was playing peek-a-boo thru the clouds during the climb. I like how you record the interior of terminals as well.
@sla31
@sla31 2 жыл бұрын
HNL has a very….. fluid gate situation, especially since Covid. Covid really changed stuff. Especially after inter-island restrictions were dropped, but mainland and international flight restrictions weren’t. Because everyone coming in from the mainland and international destinations had to be screened through Hawaii’s safe travels program, they had to be funneled through checkpoints when they arrived. This forced them (HNL) to funnel flights through certain areas. So, for example, southwest flights coming in from other islands now didn’t need to be funneled through the safe travel screening areas, but mainland southwest flights did. So mainland Southwest flights were moved to the E gates. E gates that were usually used for American, Delta, Alaska, etc. While inter-island flights stayed at the G gates. So, a lot of flights that normally used the E gates, like American had to be moved to other gates. I don’t know the exact specifics on everything but it’s all a mess haha.

Stunning video from a phone! Of course, it is an iphone 13!! Is there post production on this video?
@sla31
@sla31 Жыл бұрын
The only post editing I do is stitching everything together in Final Cut Pro. It's just too time consuming to try to edit on a 6" screen. Although my videos are the entire of the flights, there are small breaks between certain sections. Like when I show the onboard service. So, it all has to be strung together. Occasionally I'll have to do some color correcting as well. For example, I just too Alaska's A321NEO on one of their transcontinental flights from LA. And unbeknownst to me, they had some type of UV shield, or blue slight filter on their windows. I'd never seen it before, and you couldn't see it with your eyes. But the camera could sure see it. It made everything have a very blue tint to it. So, I had to also go in and color correct all of those clips, otherwise it looked very off. For most flights though, there's very little post production besides just stringing it all together.

I was literally wondering a few hours ago if you were going to post this flight. I was under the mistaken impression it was a overnight red-eye flight, and not worth filming. Don't ever give up your filming technique, man. I just did a round trip from Dubai to Georgia (the country, not the state), and, yeah, not worth posting the results I got filming with an iPhone 7. I might have to treat myself to the latest & greatest iPhone, even if it means I'll have to fly coach for part of my next trip back home to the states.

The 13 Pro pretty amazing. But, it’s also very expensive haha. Also, it is the reverse island hopper from Guam to Honolulu that is an overnight redeye. The direct flight from Guam to Honolulu leaves Guam early in the morning and arrives in Honolulu the evening. So, in my previous comments I was saying that I didn’t take the island hopper round trip, because it would’ve been pointless to film the return flight. That’s why I took the direct flight instead. Anyways, as always, I appreciate you taking the time to watch my friend!

It looks bad but I’ve seen this on multiple 777’s. It’s just a rubber type spacer that helps keep the flaperon from rubbing against the flap. Definitely needs replaced but I don’t think it’s that critical. Thanks for watching my friend!
@sla31
@sla31 Жыл бұрын
@@earlaweese Absolutely nothing would happen. It's a small piece of rubber designed to limit wear and tear. Believe me, I've flown 777's on many different airlines and this is not only the least of any problem I've ever seen, but it's also probably the least critical part of the entire plane. It will likely be replaced in the next major maintenance check the plane goes through, until then it'll likely just be MEL'd. Which basically mens it's noted as needing replaced, but isn't critical and can wait.

Guam is a U.S. territory.
@sla31
@sla31 2 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. It’s kind of complicated haha. So, Guam is a US territory, so it is a domestic flight to/from Honolulu. In fact, Honolulu is the only domestic US destination that you can fly to from Guam that’s not another US territory. Anyways, the flight is technically a domestic flight, but Guam is outside of the normal US customs zone, so it’s treated like an international flight. You have to go through passport control when you leave Guam, United is going to ask you to enter your passport information for the flight, and you have to go through customs and immigration when you arrive in Honolulu. However, that all said, you can take this flight without passport. It’s kind of a process and is just easier to use a passport which is what I did. But you can travel to Guam from Honolulu and back without a passport. So it’s a domestic flight, treated like an international flight, but can be taken without a passport as long as you are a US citizen. If that makes any sense hahaha

@sla31
@sla31 2 жыл бұрын
About 12 hours haha. Not long. Just long enough for my overnight connection and to sleep. I was there long enough to see what things were like though. Unfortunately, it was bad... Not like dangerous, but dead. Almost all the shops and restaurants in the main tourist area were closed and boarded up. The hotel I stayed at, which was the Westin, was a ghost town. And it was on the main hotel/beach area. The island was beautiful and everyone was super nice. I took a couple taxis and the drivers were the friendliest taxi drivers I'd every had. One even gave me a bit of a tour around the tourist area at no extra cost. You could tell the locals were eager to get the tourists back, but sadly, when I was there, it hadn't happened yet. Due to its location, Guam is popular with tourists from Japan, Korean, etc. And I think the strict covid lockdowns that were, and are still going on in those countries, is really hurting Guam. It was sad to see an area that was so clearly built for tourism basically empty and void of activity. The restrictions on Guam were similar to Hawaii at the time. If you were fully vaccinated, you were free to come and go as you please. I'd go back in a heartbeat, but it's not easy or cheap to get from the mainland US to Guam.

The Outback appeared closed when I was there. It appears it's open again now though based on Google. Who knows if that's correct though. One of the taxi drivers and I were talking about everything that was closed and he said it was a combination of Covid lockdowns, low tourism, and difficulty finding workers. Like everywhere else, with inflation and government checks going out, a lot places were having a hard time finding a workforce.

@sla31
@sla31 2 жыл бұрын
So, there was actually one small island visible during this flight, and I know that because I remember seeing it when on the flight. And I looked it up afterwards. Wake Island. Wake Island is one of the most isolated islands in the world. It's 1,501 miles east of Guam, 2,298 miles west of Honolulu, 1,991 miles southeast of Tokyo and 898 miles north of Majuro. The center of activity on the atoll is at Wake Island Airfield, which is primarily used as a mid-Pacific refueling stop for military aircraft and as an emergency landing area. The 9,800-foot runway is the longest strategic runway in the Pacific islands. Wake island also had a large roll in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. On December 8, 1941, within a few hours of the attack on Pearl Harbor, Wake Island being on the opposite side of the International Date Line, American forces on Wake Island were attacked by Japanese bombers. This action marked the commencement of the Battle of Wake Island. On December 11, 1941, Wake Island was the site of the Japanese Empire's first unsuccessful amphibious attack on U.S. territory in World War II when U.S. Marines, with some U.S. Navy personnel and civilians on the island, repelled an attempted Japanese invasion. The island fell to overwhelming Japanese forces 12 days later; it remained occupied by Japanese forces until it was surrendered to the U.S. in September 1945 at the end of the war. Anyways, Wake Island is the only land visible on this flight between Guam and Hawaii. You can see it at 2:52:14. After that, Kauai, is the next land we see.

Can anyone visit as a tourist in Guam, or are there limitations?
@Aloha_Alan
@Aloha_Alan 2 жыл бұрын
Anyone can visit - I was there (and took this same flight) about a month ago. It is considered an international destination and requires a passport (as you can hear from the cabin announcement upon landing in this video). The hotels were not super expensive, but the flight from HNL to GUM and back was over $2,000! It would actually have been a little cheaper to fly Guam to Tokyo to San Francisco to Honolulu than directly from Guam to Honolulu (but of course it would take an extra day -- if you're looking to rack up miles, that would be the way to go!)
@topgeardel
@topgeardel 2 жыл бұрын
@@Aloha_Alan Thanks ! One other question, since I don't travel much. Why do you have to have a passport to travel to Guam? Isn't Guam a US territory?
@sla31
@sla31 2 жыл бұрын
So, as Alan said, it's open to anyone. Tourism is a big industry on Guam. And yes, although technically a domestic flight, Guam is outside the normal US Customs and Border Protection zone, so it's operated as an international flight. That said... If you are a US citizen, and are traveling between Guam and Honolulu, you can take this flight without a passport, but it's kind of a headache and a bit complicated. The flight is treated like any other international flight. You have to go through passport control in Guam, and customs and immigration in Honolulu. The actual procedure says "Entry requirements for Guam are the same as for any U.S. destination. Although U.S. citizens are required to possess a U.S. passport, on a case-by-case basis, photo I.D. and proof of citizenship may be accepted." And even United says you can take the flight without a passport. Basically, you have to go through a bunch of extra steps that are a headache, but in the end it is technically a domestic flight.

I did have to be very careful planning my flights haha. It was weird booking a flight that left Guam on March 9th and another flight that left Honolulu on March 8th. Even though I knew it was correct, because we'd gain that day back, booking one flight on the 9th, and my next flight on the 8th, was mind warping haha. Otherwise, it was the usual jet lag stuff. Well, there were two things happening at the same time. First, you had the condensation and moisture that was on the plane being blown off, and you had some the moisture in the air condensing due to the pressure difference created by the wing. At some points they were mixing together. So, it was all water and water vapor condensing, but definitely no ice, as you alluded too, it's Guam haha. Thanks for watching my friend. I hope that answers it!

I honestly don't remember if they made an announcement at the time or not. It was marked on the flight map that you could watch on your IFE. They did make an announcement about the time change once we landed of course. Honestly, on the flight itself, it really doesn't make much of a difference. They may have made an announcement though and I didn't even hear it because I wear headphones haha.

The hydraulic sound that appears just before touchdown, what is that exactly? I only hear on your 777-3 videos?
@sla31
@sla31 2 жыл бұрын
So, I don't know specifically what it was priming at that moment, but I do know that I'd the hydraulic pump that helps keep the system primed. It could just be that there are a lot of control movements happening at that time and the system comes on to meet the pressure demand. Perhaps someone else with more knowledge will see this and be able to give more detail. It is a hydraulic pump though.

what's that thing flapping around in the wind on the wing???
@sla31
@sla31 2 жыл бұрын
So, there's a rubber/silicon like piece that helps keep the flaperon and the main flap from contacting each other. And what you see is part of that. It looks bad, but it's not critical to the plane. It's just there to help with wear and tear. Nothing to worry about, but it did need to be replaced.

I’ve always wanted to know why the 777’s don’t have wing tips or fences etc? 737, 747, 757, 767 and 787 has its unique tips. Anyone know the reason why? Or am I wrong and the 777 and 787 have similar wing tips?
@sla31
@sla31 2 жыл бұрын
So, the standard 777-200 & 300 don't have any type of winglet, but the more popular 200/ER and 300/ER do. They have raked wingtips, like the 767-400 and the 787. They're not quite as dramatic as the 787's because the wings don't flex as much, but they are there. So, you're assumption that they have similar wingtips to the 787 is correct. Thanks for watching!

I think the only way to get the US from Guam is via Honolulu. I always wonder why they don’t do direct flights to Los Angeles or San Francisco.
@sla31
@sla31 Жыл бұрын
That is correct. The only connection Guam has to a US state is Hawaii. I don't know why there isn't like a SFO or LAX flight. One would think United might have one, but not so. Perhaps United has decided they're just ins't enough demand from those locations.

Hmmm. That is odd. KZbin will periodically go though and remove subscribers or accounts it thinks are "dead accounts." But generally those are fake accounts or accounts that haven't been active in a very long time. I'm not sure what the deal would be for them to unsubscribe you completely. That's very strange. I wonder if this is a more widespread problem. Or if it was just you. I'm not really sure what to do about it either way, but the is interesting nonetheless. Thanks for letting me know my friend!

And to think you actually hold your phone WITH YOUR HAND for all this time to record this!
@sla31
@sla31 2 жыл бұрын
Historically, yes. 98% of what's on my channel is filmed by hand. And still today, most of what you see is. That said, there has been a recent development on that front. So, now on flights under 3 hours. Maybe even 3.5 hours, I just hold the camera by hand. The main problem that has prevented me from using a mount previously, was the dreaded iPhone jitters. iPhones have great cameras, but they aren't action cameras. When you mount an iPhone to an aircraft, all of the vibrations from the engines and wind friction are transferred into the lens of the camera. This gave the footage a jitter that made it look like you were filming everything through a jello filter. Even after hundreds of dollars spent and multiple mounts, including a custom made one where I use anti-vibration drone parts, the only way I ever found that solved this problem was to hold the camera and keep it isolated away from the fuselage. And that's still what I do most of the time today. That said, on longer flights, I've found a mount that works... Most of the time... I still hold the camera by hand for all takeoffs, landings, and taxiing. And as I said above, any flight less than 3ish hours. But, on certain long flights, I've found this mount: www.rammount.com/part/RAM-B-166-UN10U to be the only mount that can work most of the time when cruising. It also only works with the iPhone 13 Pro. Anything before that like a 12 Pro, 11 Pro. or X the jitters are still there. The combination of that being a very expensive mount, being well made, and having the built in stabilization of the 13 Pro being so good, seems to be enough on most cruise occasions to eliminate the jitter. This flight was actually the first long "test" I did with the mount. So, a mount was used on this flight during the cruise section. This is a very recent development though and I'm still "testing" stuff on longer flights. I'm flying from MCI-SEA tomorrow and it's about a 3.5 hour flight. I'll just hold the camera on it. In the end it's still a work in progress and I'll do whatever I have to, to make sure I get the best footage.

Yeah I have 2 iPhone 12 promax’s and a 12 mini and the jittering is really annoying. I hope that the 14 series is even better than the 13’s as I do plan to upgrade to a 14 promax when it is released.

domestic flights?
@sla31
@sla31 5 ай бұрын
On paper, technically, yes. The direct flight from Guam to Honolulu is a domestic flight and you can take it (or the reverse) without a passport. That said, the flight is actually treated like an international flight since Guam is outside of the normal zone covered by the US Customs & Border Patrol. So, you still have to go through customs and immigration when you arrive in Honolulu. There's just this weird loophole that allows you to do so without a passport since Guam is a territory. It's worth noting that you cannot take the United island hopper without a passport. Even if you buy the full segment from Guam to Honolulu. Because you stop in the Marshall Islands and Micronesia on the way, you have to have a passport in case there is an issue that prevents you from leaving.

He cleaned the wings very early. That tells me that the plane was very empty. Nobody noticed that flutter underneath the flaperon ? What the hell is that ?
@sla31
@sla31 2 жыл бұрын
Well, passenger wise this was a relatively full flight. Probably 80% full. Of course, in the grand scheme of things, passenger load isn't what's going to be the biggest percentage of the total weight on a 777-300. Fuel and cargo are going to be the big numbers there. 7 hours is less than half of what this aircraft is capable of flying, so fuel was likely relatively light, and after the flight, it didn't take me long to get back to the aircraft to get the exterior shots at the end. And they were already done unloading cargo, so that was probably pretty light as well. I'd say it was pretty light, overall. And, I did notice the flutter on the flaperon, but I've seen that many times on 767's and 777's, so I wasn't too concerned. I don't know the exact type of material that is used for that. Some type of rubber or silicon I'd impinge. Either way, it's whatever that piece is, it's some type of very soft material that I belie is used to basically be a spacer between the flaperon and the flaps. It's not structural in any way, and I think its only job is to keep the two solid pieces on either side form hitting each other. So, I've seen it loose and flapping around like that many times before. I'm sure it needs to be replaced, but I don't think it was any type of major issue. Thanks for watching my friend!

@@sla31 Yeah. I meant with empty also light. That 77W is a monster. We had a relatively short runway at our old airport in Berlin called Tegel ( TXL ). In 2019 on December the 31st we took of there with a 77W from Qatar Airways to Doha. We were completely full and that bird excalerated out of this world to Vr and also had a nice steep climb out. I talked with the 1st officer than later during the flight when he was in the business galley and he said that they didn't even used full power for take off due to good wind and runway conditions. Well. What is left to say then ? The 777-300 ER is THE BEAST.
