United's 777-200. Called the smokey Joe. 😂 🇺🇲
@Simplymike20246 ай бұрын

@haroldlipschitz93016 ай бұрын
The Trent XWB is also very smoky. Nearly as high smoke rating as PW4000 series.
@FletcherRSmith5 ай бұрын
That clears that up for me. I always wondered why United’s 777 were always leaving a trail of smoke like a 707 in the 60s. I saw a video of one taking off from HNL and when it spooled up, I thought the engines were on fire so much black smoke barreled out the back 😂
@haroldlipschitz93015 ай бұрын
@@FletcherRSmith This is common to the PW4000 and high thrust RR Trent series as the engines are designed to quickly burn off oil in the system when transitioning to high thrust. If you watch the Trent XWB at takeoff, it spools up very fast and there is often a black puff during the transition.

I was watching the Men's Marathon and now, I'm watching you latest video. Wow... Ethiopia won the Gold!! He OWNED that race near the end! Tomorrow will be the Women's Marathon and then, the Closing Ceremony. It's always a little heartbreaking to watch the Olympic Flame go out. But... we'll get to see it re-lit in Los Angeles in 2028. I remember the 1984 LA Games very well. I also remember feeling frustrated by ABC's coverage of them. I've been watching CBC's coverage of the Games. The Vancouver station is part of our basic cable package, and I find their coverage more refreshing, more balanced than NBC's. Anyhow, good views along the way, another fine video on your part. I'll rest up from the 1 hour jet lag by watching more of the Olympic Games, and I'll leave you to win YOUR Olympic Gold Medals and win your Million Dollar Prize from your Amazing Race around the world.

You'll see the Olympic Flame re-lit February, 2026 in Milan/Cortina, Italy, right? Couldn't agree more about CBC - I live in the Detroit area and we get CBC from Windsor, Ontario as part of our basic package. I always remember the channel number for CBC -- 999.
@scottbridge93916 ай бұрын
@@robertkobrick4634 It's 99 or 619 for us. I was thinking of the next summer Olympics in 2028, but yes, the Winter ones are only a year and half away. I spent a few days in Calgary in August 2008 and watched the Summer Games there, loved how CBC covered them, became very frustrated with NBC's coverage. Then, I remember that we get the Vancouver CBC station (CBUT Channel 2) at home and watched the rest of the 2008 games on CBC. In September 2000, I spent 3 weeks over in Turkey. This was when the 2000 Sydney Games were going on. I got to watch the games on the UK station, the Italian station, the French station, the German Station, the Spanish station and the Turkish station. It was very refreshing and eye-opening to see the Games covered from many different perspectives and not see NBC's coverage at all. Back in the 1984 LA Olympic Games, ABC focused entirely on the US athletes and acted like the rest were non-existent specters. They improved their act after getting reamed for their earlier coverage. I was up in Vancouver in mid-summer 1996 and watched the Canadian 100m sprinter win the gold and set a new world record in the process. I watched it in a bar and everyone was cheering. It was exciting to watch. It was nice to take a break from the US coverage. Back then, I didn't have cable TV service, so I couldn't watch the CBC channel at home.

@@robertkobrick4634 Here, it's Channel 619. It looks like CBC will cover the 2006 Winter Games. When I was in Turkey in September 2000, that was during the 2000 Sydney Games. I got to see TV coverage from the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Turkey. It was very refreshing to not have to watch NBC's coverage that year. In 2008, I spent a few days in Calgary, and CBC was aired the Beijing Summer Games. I found it much better than NBC's coverage. When I got back home, I remembered that we get the Vancouver Station as part of our basic cable package and continued watching the Games on it. I've been watching the Games on CBC ever since. I was feeling so frustrated with NBC's coverage that I felt great relief realizing that I could watch them on CBC at home.

It’s incredible how quiet those 777 Rolls Royce engines are. They each produce well over 100,000 ft/lbs of thrust at take off, but you’d never know they are that powerful for your video.

Although easy to confuse, this is a non-ER variant of the 200. One of the oldest 777’s still in service. And it is equipped with Pratt & Whitney engines. The same as the one that suffered, the uncontained engine failure departing Denver a few years ago that led to the type being grounded for over a year.

@jacke499246 ай бұрын
How do you decide what airline you’re going to fly?😅
@sla316 ай бұрын
Well, I mean a lot goes into it haha. Price, flight time, how it fits into my overall trip, whether I like the airlines or not, if I need more segments on a certain airline to keep status, etc. I try to keep things as varied as possible on the channel so it doesn't get boring or repetitive, but I do end up favoring some airlines over others. I also keep status on three different airlines. Southwest, Untied, and Alaska. Southwest because they stand alone and I need status on them to make sure I get good seats. At least until next year. United so I get status on all Star Alliance carriers, and Alaska so I get status on all Oneworld carriers. So inevitably you end up seeing more United, Southwest, Alaska and American on my channel. Because I have to fly so much with them to keep my status. On big trips where I fly all the way to Hawaii or around the world. I often find and pick flights based on what fits the trip best. For example, I'm flying to Asia again later this year. I'm going to Australia first and I didn't want to fly on a 787 from Honolulu to Sydney. Qantas and Jetstar operate that route, but both on are 787's. And I avoid 787's at all cost, especially when they're long haul flights. So instead I picked the only other descent option which was to fly on Fiji Airways on their 737-8 Max from Honolulu to Fiji with a stop in Samoa, and then from Fiji on to Sydney on their A350. In this case, it was the fight routing that checked all the boxes. Not a 787, still relatively direct without having to go to Asia first, Fiji is also a Oneworld affiliated airline so I could count the miles towards my Alaska status, etc.

Can’t 🤷🏻♂️. Sitting on the left side, in the northern hemisphere, on a westbound flight not only causes the entire flight to be horribly backlit. But it also causes the camera to overheat very quickly thanks to the direct sunlight. It gets way too hot around the window to sit on the backlit side.
