I wouldn't even use it on a lake. I use it 6 foot waves and it loves it. Do the 2S upgrade for more grunt.

Can you actually use this on salt water? I've always thought salt water was bad for r/c boats.

Yes. Unless you tear the entire boat apart and clean everything you will experience rust.
