It's similar to NJ Transit's RiverLINE that operates between the Camden Waterfront (near the Battleship New Jersey) and the Trenton Transportation Center (for Amtrak NEC trains, NJ Transit's Northeast Corridor and SEPTA's Trenton Line commuter trains). Most of the line runs on former Pennsylvania-Reading Seashore Line (PRSL) and Conrail trackage, however there is some street-running, especially in Burlington (near the Burlington-Bristol Bridge), with some of the line hugging the banks of the Delaware River between Roebling and Trenton. Biggest difference is that the RiverLINE uses diesel-electric equipment instead of overhead electrical traction.

Wonderful country, everything looks so organized. The drivers of cars know their place and are well trained to stop at signals. When your a well organized country and everyone knows their place and the consequences for not shows that you can run a service like this. No not in the U.S.A. The closest I've seen to this format is in San Francisco California with their cable cars acting like busses. Great country extremely clean. Kudos to the people who keep it that way.

I'd hate to know how many vehicles lose control in the winter time and end up on the tracks.... Insane placement. From the amount of trains heading in the opposite direction its no wonder they are losing money on it. They must be offering a train every 30-45 minutes.

Switzerland has always looked at the rail system as a public service which is subsidised. It's not a profit making business like in the USA, UK, Australia and Canada. In those countries, if the route doesn't make a profit, they'll just shut it down, never mind the travelling public.

They are similar to tram signals. When indicating to stop, the square ones are passable if there is a technical problem and the round ones are switched by traffic controllers and can only be passed under certain circumstances.

@@lorirocks777 thanks a lot for clarifying so quickly! I thought all signals were strictly regulated by the federal Regulations, but I guess the shields with cars on it that are hanging below some of those signals indicate that a different set of signals may be in use in those segments, right? :) TIL something new :3
@EuroScot20234 жыл бұрын
The mix of signals reflects the nature of this line. Colour-light signals controlling the interactions of the trains and tram signals because much of the route is crossing, and re-crossing, streets in towns. Its a pragmatic combination which helps maintain safety in all situations. Helped, of course, by Swiss people who treat trains as routine but with suitable respect.
