For those wondering, the first four F-35s are Norwegian, and the hump on the back is for the parachute. Norwegian fighters have had breaking parachutes since the Starfighter times (The F-5 Freedom Fighter and F-16 also had them - and I note that the Belgian F-16s also have adopted breaking chutes (the thing peaking out from the vertical stabilizer)). This is because the RNoAF uses the Norwegian short runway network. Especially during winter (with ice) the idea of using wheel breaks is not optimal. (According to what is known, the parachute hump does not interfere with the stealthyness. The reason why the Norwegian/Dutch F-35s are taking off at mil-power and not afterburners - I bet there are noise limitations in place. The F-35 may be stealthy, but it is NOT silent (The F-35 engine has as much trust in dry power as the F-16 has in full afterburner). There are few things better than close friends coming together to push the limits of excellence forward 👍

about the f16: the enlarged tail was used by Dutch F16's for a breaking chute (and i expect also by norwegian and perhaps danish f16's,) The Belgian F16's used this space to house the Carapace electronic aw system.

Prachtig gefilmd vliegtuigen zijn mooi belicht door de zon . Messchien een vraag die al ooit beantwoord is , maar bij de noorse F35 zit een bult tussen de rudders boven op de motor waar dient deze voor is het een soort radar of zo ?

@@shandfan No they used the main runway. The F-16 used their AB becouse of their wing tank configuration so they are much heavier and the Tornado alwys have to use the AB to get airborn.
