I still remember the first time I saw a Nighthawk in person was at Van Nuys Airshow in the 90’s…it was so cool! I remember the announcer saying, “Wouldn’t it be cool if you pulled up to work in one of those?” Yes, Mr. Announcer. It would most certainly be the coolest thing ever.

When I was a kid there was an airshow at Davis Monthan Air Base(mid 1990's). My step dad was a Master Sergeant there. He took my family through one of the hangers that was housing an F-117 for the show. This was before it was rolled out for display. It had several armed guards around it. As we walked past it I reached up and grabbed the wing tip and gave it a squeeze and flex hoping no one would care or notice. I still remember what it felt like and that none of the guards hassled me. Such a cool moment Ill never forget.

First time seeing the F-117 it's just amazing. The aircraft I bought an rc edf, and I can't wait to fly it, but still, the plane was put into production in the late 70s, and nobody knew about it until the gulf War. I think they carried out 1600 missions in the conflict without being shot down.

I totally missed seeing all of this video's footage in person, even if I weren't laid out in pain at the time I wouldn't have seen anything more than blurry small jets as I'm blind in my left eye (detached retina) and have no distance vision in my right until I get new glasses. If a B52 can be useful as a stand-off weapon delivery system then there should be a role for the F117. Update them where pilots are unnecessary and upgrade stealth level and keep these little bombers. Looks like that’s happening and that’s a good thing. While we’re at it upgrade the A10. Remote control it or make it autonomous. Add additional protection and redundancy. They will get shot down but unpiloted and could help win some battles. The droneification of thousands of older jets should be a long term project. A war with Russia China Iran and North Korea - sadly inevitable.

weird that its already been 30+ years since these were blowing buildings up in iraq, also weird that seeing them out and around is nostalgic, not unlike watching a ww2 P-51. the technology and oddness of the design places them squarely in the 80’s-90’s… very much dated compared to aircraft platforms like the f-15/f-18 and others that somehow don’t seem so dated even though they are the same age or older.
