I have the MG ZS EV european version. I think the "lack" of software on it actually makes it good. Too much bad software (like the MG5 / MG4 or the new MG ZS EV) ruins the experience. Very satisfied with the lack of software in my "old" MG ZS EV.

It’s a cost issue for the slow charging. Higher speed of charging requires higher cost components. In the end you get what you pay for. If Xpeng G9 is released in Norway, it would be very interesting to see if there is any place in Norway that can match the limit of the charging speed of this model. Saw their own charging station began in operation charging up G6 crazy in China.

@@karlitono it stops after it has charged 350kWh? ;-) I think, you mean 350kW chargers. Yes, that's really fast when the car can handle it - or it's even still fast when two cars share a charger, 175kW max for each of the two cars at the same time - in case charger sharing is done there. Or one car is nearly full and it takes less than 80 kW and the second car just arrived at that same charger and it can take much more from it. That makes sense!

The loud chimes even extend to the door locks. German & Japanese cars have perfected the lock ‘beep’ or half honk chirp (mercedes) and it’s tolerable. Some China cars however, like Geely has no shame in giving a LOUD honk every-time you lock & unlock or forget the key fob in your car. I live near a commercial zone and I can guess the car by the noise it makes when the owners lock them. It’s just madness, and certain things like the cornering lights- they’ll just blast full on LED fog lights every half turn of the steering & unfortunately Volvo now also does this, not surprising since Volvo is part of Geely. If you’re waiting for an oncoming car to pass through a narrow street dodging parked cars the LED fog lights come on and off like a mad light show. I notice German & some Japanese models would fade the corner lights on and off and it’s not so jarring even with LED’s. And goodluck if you’re waiting at traffic lights and the oncoming car has their turn signal on, or their steering slightly turned, their cornering lights will blind you

Didn't know you speak fluent Mandarin. :D Awesome podcast - we need more of these ! Chinese cars are just not 'world class' yet, they lack refinement and a globally acceptable user interface. Judging from all the reviews they seem primarily designed for the domestic market. You may see the odd Chinese car in some pro-EV European countries, but there is no wide adoption at all - it's not the target market (yet). They can not be compared to the scale Mercedes, BMW or Tesla operate at globally. But at the speed things are going, might not be long before we see some serious world class competition.

I don't have any problem with Chinese EVs for now. The European makers are ripping off the customer in countries like Germany where there are heavy EV subsidies. My Peugeot e208 cost 32,000€ (before Peugeot increased the prices to benefit more from the EV grant). The exact same car costs 35,300€ today, and comes with less features as standard (e.g. the 11kW OBC isn't included any more). Now some people are going to squawk on about how the costs have gone up, but all the while Stellantis (Peugeot's parent company) made 16.8 billion € in profit in 2022 (record profits despite war and chip shortages). Now MG, offers the MG4 Luxury for roughly the same price in Germany, with better charging, more range, more features and better comfort. The Chinese manufacturers and Tesla funnily enough are helping to offer cars at a good price, and hopefully correct the poor business practices of the European manufacturers.

...but Chinese car manufactures are learning fast. I'm old enough to remember that in the 1950's and 60's Japan had a reputation for producing nothing but junk. We all know where they are now. @@dr.andersonsghost4315 Thanks, it might be, though this is the first I've heard of that too. I live in Canada and that type of surface rust usually doesn't show until after five years of salty winter roads. I'm speculating a salty submersion of a brand new car, that was probably removed from the sea rather quickly, would show that much corrosion. That's me looking at the pictures and going by experience. I can't know if any of the information presented is accurate, including yours.

@@DEEPNNN We don't know what kind of damage the crash had caused to the body, and we also don't know how long the car had been parked at the junkyard, and whether the junkyard is also close to the sea. Salt water corrosion is no joke. I lived in Galveston, Texas back in the 90s, and any part of your car that has exposed metal (e.g. from chipped paint) would get rusty in a few short months from constant exposure to moist salty air.

EV journalists praise fast charging speeds, but the battery science, while young, still is pretty clear; dc fast charging is harmful for long term battery soh, and especially done in very low or high temperatures. I strongly doubt all these journalists know more about the limits than the engineers actually making choices about batteries, charging and hvac systems. it could very well be that manufacturers have prioritized long term SOH over getting the absolutely fastest charging speed, like toyota probably did with the bz4x, but more or less lied about the practical range. the problem is that we as consumers will only know the truth about longeviety many years from now. so, for me, a car with low fast charging speeds isnt necessarily a bad car, it might even be an indication that it will be a long lasting car, in other words "a good car".

I think the GB/T 20234.3-2015 (Guo Biao , National Standard in China) limits the maximum current of the charger to 250A,that‘s why those cars charge slow. Even the VW ID.series are limited to a maximum of 91kW by the charger.kzbin.info/www/bejne/anu1dJ6Cl71lj9k But BYD Han,Tang,Seal and Xpeng G9 are the same as hyundai ioniq 5, use 4PIN rear motor as inverter, battery pack voltage reaches 550V-640V. BYD seal can reach 150kW on 250A charger, Xiaopeng G9 can reach 200kW (3C battery version, the 4C version has a maximum of 480kW in the Xpeng charger).

1. Not very fast charge as Tesla. 2. Not very fast acceleration as Tesla. 3. Chinese EVs are both Chinese-made product and Chinese product, then they are not trustable as Tesla or Western/Japanese/Korean EVs. Launch oversea factory/factories may helps. 4. Chinese EVs' lifetimes are also in questions. There are many 2012 or older Tesla cars that shown how long lifetime and how good durability and reliability Tesla cars are.

This used to be true (for ICE) up to two or three years ago. Then the foreign brands dominated the market with about 65% market share, sometimes even 70%. Since the arrival of "Weixiaoli" (Nio-Xpeng-Li Auto) things are changing very quickly. These brands have become the highest in reputation, beating BBA (Benz-BMW-Audi). And in their wake, homegrown brands have flourished. I think year-to-date, Chinese brands have over 50% market share, so the foreigners lost at least 15% in three years. There are a couple of reasons for this: -Domestic cars used to be based on outdated technology left over from the joint ventures. But the Chinese set up their own R&D and have caught up with the foreigners (mostly). -Chinese buyers generally find the foreign cars lacking in digital technology. Bjorn complains about it, but in China it apparantly works rather well. They think VW or Toyota is not as advanced as Nio or Xpeng, or even BYD (that used to be considered a budget brand). -Chinese designs are more adventurous than foreign ones and domestic brands react to new trends much quicker. BEV market share is not equal for all segments. Cheap city cars are already 100% BEV and every single one of them is domestic. No foreign brands even available. BEV market share in the premium class (Tesla and up) is somewhere around 40 to 50%. Big players here are Tesla and "Weixiaoli", with the Chinese legacies now entering the game with new premium brands (Voyah, Zhiji IM, Feifan, Avatr, Shenlan, Aito, Zeekr, Yangwang, SAR, etc). BBA used to dominate the premium segment, but their EVs are not selling well. The main battlefield remaining is mainstream, where BEV has around 10% share. The foreigners still have a chance here, but the door is closing very quickly. BYD and Aion already scaled up massively, NIO is coming to town with Alps and Firefly sub-brands and budget startups like Neta and Leapmotor have their first models in this space. The foreigners need to hurry up, else they'll be marginalized. So far, Tesla is the only foreign brand considered to be in the same league as the domestic newcomers and even they can't be certain of their market appeal.

I think this video or this story should have the Thai version. 1. To stop some Thai people from buying Chinese EVs. 2. To make Western/Japanese car companies understand that some Thai people decided to bought Chinese EVs because you (Western/Japanese car companies) don't sell EVs in Thailand with the good prices, not because they preferred to Chinese EVs.

The largest issue is supporting the Chinese state and letting them have all control they'd like over the car. Never know what they're able to do or not. Especially since the chinese state is granted insight into and control of all chinese companies. Perhaps there's sanctions suddenly and they brick your car! Chinese are only able to copy what others have done, they cannot make something from the ground up themselves.

The largest issue is indoctrinated western supremacy with its hundreds of years of extreme racist orientalism always finding new excuses which obviously are reducing the market choice for western racists.
