great job. one correction. the watch cameron wore is the sea dweller deepsea. the watch worn on the robotic arm of the submersible was the sea dweller deep sea challenge. the challenge was experimental iirc only 5 were made. the glass on the challenge is around 15mm thick iirc. no deductions lol

4:22 Yes, the 116660 was released in 2012, however, this particular version, which is the James Cameron D-Blue, was released in August 2014. It was actually very unusual for Rolex to release a variant in the middle of the year and not at Baselworld. Even stranger, they released this D-Blue version under the same reference number as the regular version, 116660. Of course, now we have an updated version of both watches with the reference 126660. I just bought one, great watch!

I own this beastie too and it certainly makes its presence known on the wrist, both for the wearer and for anyone seeing it. It's definitely a keeper for me, possibly the only Rolex I will have in my collection as I like complications which are NOT a Rolex strong suit!
@EdwardV206 жыл бұрын
This is a very hefty watch indeed, I'd only get this if it was to deepsea dive, but that is not one of my hobbys so there is no use in getting it, you can't wear it casually anyway. It is a nice conversation piece and capable tool, but that is all there is to it. Really love that clasp mechanism, didn't know that. Thanks for showing us that.

I couldn't watch the video on the release day once again unfortunately, but now I did. This was the first watch that really caught my eye when I visited the Rolex website (years ago). It looks very good, but it's a "collectors item" rather than a watch to wear because it's so big and heavy. I can understand you want to let it go, and I would do the same thing. If you can't really enjoy it on the wrist, it should make space for something that can. The new SD is big as well, but you can wear it on more occasions. Thank you for the video, I didn't know the difference in size between the SD and the DS was so big. If I had to choose to keep only one of the two, it would be the "more practical" Sea-Dweller.
@szymonlorenz72546 жыл бұрын

Nice video! I have to say, I'm not a fan of that Rolex. I think they did a great job on the regular new Sea Dweller, but this one is just too much that case almost reminds me of something Invicta would make. I do appreciate the dial though, it is very pretty.

You have the SD4K 40mm discontinued and the new SD 43mm. I think this is too similar to the new SD 43mm to continue and is obsolete by comparison: the bracelet is the same as the Submariner Date; whereas the SD 43mm got a newly designed one to match: apparently the same as used in the Rolesor Sky-Dwellers from BW 2017. I'd keep all 3 if you can afford to as I would think it will be discontinued. I looked at Rolex in Goldsmiths the National Jeweller and Rolex AD in November 2016 in The Trafford Centre and the staff were very good. Two of them had just got the James Cameron Edition SD-Deepsea. AP and Breitling are as big. It looked OK on You lug-to-lug, it was the thickness that made it large. Not as bad as an Omega Seamaster Ploprof 1200. You just need the white gold Submariner Date 116619BL, which you could get if you sold 2. I think your artificial lighting is better. For Baselworld, you are probably correct, replacing older movements with 3235 in Datejust 41 and SD 43mm. I think Explorer II could get a Triplock crown and ceramic bezel and the GMT-Master II in black/red ceramic 'Coke' bezel. Could be in 950 Platinum, but more likely 904L steel.
@jimfou41645 жыл бұрын
thanks for this Vid, i actually own a Breitling Super ocean Heritage Chrono Special Edition with the BLue Dial et Black Bezel, i would not go for the Deepsea cause it looks like the same, i ve tried it loved it but really heavier than my Breitling

44mm is a good size for a mens watch, and this is a sport watch, sport watches are supposed to be big. And thickness is justified, this is a gas tank that can withstand the pressure of a 3900mtr depth. I have a relatively smaller rest and I don't think it looks big at all. This is my favourite from Rolex, I don't like their classic watches, I think they look dated.

Great video and love you channel. I have a 7.25” wrist so this watch is great for me. Question: I currently own this watch d-blue 116660 and was wondering if I should trade for the new 2018 model d-blue 126660? The new model has a better looking bracelet 2mm wider, better movement etc..but wasn’t sure if this model d-blue 116660 will become collectible? Would appreciate any thoughts on this before or if I trade for the newer model. Thank you - GRC

chris yako It sold for about 12-13k from Rolex. Idk if it’s still being sold but it resells for about 15k. Might be able to find it closer to the original if you look around but I don’t think you’ll find it for any less than 12k

I tried one the 43/44 sea Dweller last week and it was HUGE, I have small wrists anyway so kind of knew it would be too big but I was shocked at how thick it was, suppose that's it's design due to the deep sea but still

This watch you have in this review is not the same watch used in the deepest dive challenge full stop, ( that watch used in the deepest dive is about 2" = inches thick, you can see it on the arm on the machine that went down 11,000 meters. ) it was a watch made to look like it, but its only rated more or less around 3000 meters thats about it and not 11,000 meters ? LOL :) Also you can buy this watch 2nd hand for $20K new was what around 60K ?

any watch with metal bands for you are impossiable to put on and go out for a dinner party etc, or special occasion, almost every time you move your arm its going to catch onto you hair on your wrist, lol: so basically you have to have a watch which comes with leather straps only,which is then limited to which watches you can own and use unless your order a watch with leather straps, but then the watch does not look like it supposed to come with leather straps, lol :)
