Yeah, you can also still see the bullet holes on the stairs and walls by the chow hall from when Fred Corrosco and his fall partners got into a deadly shoot out on August 3rd 1974. They had hostages and pistols but the Texas Rangers had Tommy Guns. Official story cleared all law enforcement for civilian death, but I had a cellie who was in the medical building when the shit got hot. According to him, the Rangers basically opened fire with machine guns from the roof of the building he was in. He thought they were killing inmates till he looked out the window and saw for himself what was happening. A lot of very crazy shit goes on at the Walls Unit.
@austinartist0608 Жыл бұрын
I was there in 2010 2012 and 2014. The big white box building directly across the yard from chow. The Rangers could shot them like fish in a barrel. That's an old building. They had the best food at those Huntsville units. Byrd, Holliday. Because that's where the system auditors where. Even had strawberry milk on the table at breakfast. In transit that's about 4 am. Cold as hell in January wearing a short sleeve jumper with no jacket.

I was a corrections officer for 10 years at TDCJ from 1984 - 1994. I actually attended the TDC academy there in Huntsville a block away from the Walls unit. The Walls was built back in 1848 as Texas first state prison in Huntsville and housed notorious killers like John Wesley Harden and others. The outside guard towers are called pickets... and alot of the brick buildings outside of the unit is state housing for staff and officers assigned to the Walls Unit. Along and across the west wall is a old brick building used by the inmates to make civil war uniforms for confederate soldiers back in the day... but i believe it has since been demolished... they're are old tales and rumors that the Walls is haunted but so are alot of places in Huntsville too.
@sixpakshaker886 ай бұрын

2:50.... those are trustee inmates. The lowest security inmates. They are generally allowed to walk more freely around the unit during the day. Including unfenced areas of the unit. But there are officers watching.... from the picket tower. At least the officers in the towers are supposed to. To be honest lots of officers just sleep and/or don't pay attention in the towers. At night trustee inmates aren't allowed to walk freely. They need to be escorted if they walk outside by mobile patrol (a prison car with an armed officer driving).

I agree it seems crazy to me to but for maybe for a different reason. Those trustees you see there if they were to walk off would be charged with escape and probably this case would put them in custody for a long time, at least 6 additional years, and escapees are pretty much never gonna be paroled. What are they doing out there? most likely heading to a 12 hour day of Manuel labor for which they will be payed zero dollars. what are they in prison for? If they are trustees at the walls unit it would have to be non violent non sex crimes which means that you probably talking about a small amount of drugs or some other thing you would hardly want to see your son locked up in the inside of a real ass Texas prison unit where his cell mate is maybe pulling down 30 or more years for some bad actions we don't even want to start thinkin about so, to me it is weird that Texas keeps a 150 plus year old prison open when the inside is a place you wouldn't let a dog or a cow live. That’s a release unit so if you’d hung around until release time you’d see a bunch a of men getting out and walking down the street to the store that caters to them. They get box lunches and bus passes to Dallas or Fort Worth and are told hanging around in Huntsville will get them picked up by the sheriff. Stay on THIS road, walk to THAT store get on your bus and get outta town. Some family members are waiting outside for their inmates to be released. Only death row inmates are housed in that building. Many inmates are there serving their time running the prison for the turn around guys incoming to be released. Guards over see them but the inmates handle the job well, like shipping and receiving livestock that has to be fed and bedded down. Most of them are good guys.

If you have a immigration hold, Homeland Security will scoop you up and transfer you to a federal lockup.

Roughest unit in the state. If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere. Definitely not for the weak.

Once you go inside there's 2 man cells and floor tears. They feed good up in there too. No shaking the spoon over there.

People getting shanked getting jumped beat the hell it ain't no joyride I can tell you that.

Graduated SHSU 84' not uncommon to see trustees working outside the walls. Soon to be released and not going to screw up. Of course that was then. Who knows what's on their minds now.

You should drove down to the bus stop where I, time served, got extorted by the local yokel cashing checks selling clothes to the freshly released.
