Niangma monastery, also known as Awancang Zhaodai Niangma monastery, was founded in 1834 AD. It is located in the center of Awancang Zhaxi Gongse Beach and is adjacent to Sanrima monastery. "Niangma" translated into Chinese means "old", and Niangma Sect is the ancient sect or old sect, which is the oldest sect in Tibetan Buddhism. It is one of the sects of Tibetan Buddhism. Because the monks of this sect all wear red hats, it is also called the Red Sect.
Niangma monastery stands on the open Zhaxi Gongse Grassland, surrounded by rivers. The orderly building complex, the long prayer corridor, the stone hut, the Mani piles and prayer flags engraved with scriptures and symbols are integrated with the grassland. The gilded Sutra Hall, in a dignified and eye-catching way, publicizes the existence of gods and becomes the softest part of the herdsmen's heart, like a lamp, warming and illuminating the path of goodness on the grassland.
