Changgyeonggung Palace is an ancient palace located in Waryong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul. It is an important cultural property designated as Historic Site No. 123. In 1484, Sungjong wanted to bring his mother and grandmother by his side, so he built them next to Changdeokgung Palace where he stayed. At first, there were many pavilions and pavilion, but they were burned down along with other palaces during the Japanese Invasion of Korea. In 1616, Gwanghaegun was rebuilt, but in 1624, a rebellion broke out and burned again.
Currently, Myeongjeongjeon Hall, Sungmundang, Environmental Exhibition, Gyeongchunjeon Hall, Tongmyeongjeon Hall, Yanghwadang, etc. remain, as well as the main gate of Myeongjeongjeon Hall and the main gate. Among them, Myeongjeongjeon Hall is characterized by facing east, unlike many royal palaces of the Joseon Dynasty facing south, and has an elegant architectural style, which makes it a valuable resource for studying the architecture of the time.
However, Changgyeonggung Palace was greatly damaged during the Japanese invasion period, with the name Changgyeongwon being lowered by Japanese coercion, and the pavilion, fence, and palace gates being tampered with or damaged. In addition, Japan built a zoo, a botanical garden, and a museum inside the palace and planted cherry trees, which are the flowers of its own country. Until recently, the zoo was moved to Seoul Grand Park in 1983 and Changgyeonggung Palace was restored after three years of restoration work
