I was born in Cheshire. But my mum was from Rochdale and for some reason missed it, so back we came lol. Brought up just outside in Whitworth. Rochdale is an absolute ghost town now. Bookies, charity shops, endless takeaways.

I bought a book recently on eBay on Rochdale called Memory Lane. The book gave a great impression of what Rochdale used to be like. The book showed it to be a great place in the 1950s, but these days it’s all bad news. I blame the state of the town on the Labour run council. They get rid of the old bus station and the Black Box office block which they declared an eyesore only to replace the them with a bigger eyesore across the road. I actually liked the 1970s brutalist look about the old bus station and offices. I know they were looking run down but it would have looked smart and futuristic when new. Of course buildings like this are always controversial when first built as usualy something of historical value has to make way for it. I liked the idea of a bus station multi story car park being right Mecca to a town centre. I was lucky enough to take loads of photographs of the inside of the bus station shortly before it was demolished. The new council offices look like they only have a life expectancy of 15 to 20 years.

I left in 1989 and have a whole other Rochdale mapped out in my head. Yorkshire St isn't looking very good now. Interesting they have uncovered the river. A few beautiful old buildings have gone also along the walk, which is a shame. Town centre seems a bit forlorn to me now.

Im from The Dale and it's a lovely town, yes it has it's problems like many other English towns but all in all it's a great place to live it's diverse and full of culture. The media on the other hand always try to paint a grim picture of the town claiming that it's full of Junkies Dealers and Thugs and they also like to bring up a well documented case involving certain members of our Asian community but in reality the majority of people in Rochdale are hardworking law abiding citizens very friendly and always happy to help and also if you dig deep enough you will find we have produced some of the finest Actors and Musicians in the Country along with some ground-breaking artists, for such a small town I think that something us from the Dale can all be proud of, Peace and Love ❤

A tale of two halves, the main street and drake street have seen better days, didn't help it was still in lockdown. They do now have a new leisure development . The town hall square is quite eye catching with its town hall, post office building and many other Victorian buildings that with the river running through it in summer is a rival to most places around greater Manchester. Go out of the centre and then you hit the buffers.

Great place to have been born in and I owe the place a lot....started career there. But now , well it's an absolute dump. As the local indigenous folk have moved out the Riff Raff have moved in, and so the cycle of deprivation continues and the place is now known for all the wrong reasons. No longer safe to walk those streets that now smell fowl of curry. They have ruined the place.
