They are currently spending a lot of money and effort regenerating the town centre so hopefully it will be looking better soon. I don't mind shopping there as it has a decent mix of shops for a small town, and it's just much less stressful than going into Manchester.

I’ll have to go back and film when they have finished to see the difference. Yeah I wouldn’t want to go into Manchester all the time either

i am from oldham and have not been into the town centre for years, everyone avoids it like the plague, it is not a happy place at all. i also notice how everyone is walking with a limp and just looks disabled it is shockingly sad to see.

A trip from the top of town, down Yorkshire St. to Mumps ... Haven't walked that path for a long time ... I do remember Mumps bus station wall from the top deck of a bus as a young lad ... There was a poem chalked on the wall which I still remember to this day ... Behind the iron gates of fate The seeds of time were sown And watered by the deeds of those Who know and who were known Knowledge is a deadly friend If no-one sets the rules The fate of all mankind I see Is in the hands of fools Home of the "Tubigrip" people it used to say on Mumps Bridge ... I am one of those people ... Does anyone remember the tower club?

Looks like town planners of the past have done their worst. Glad to see St Mary’s, The Greaves Arms, Church Terrace escaped their clutches, and was that Barclay’s Bank at bottom of what was Lord Street still standing? Feel for the elderly in Oldham, lot’s of places to trip up on the beautification madness.

Seems to be the overwhelming opinion on the town. Where did you move to?
@uk-martin490516 күн бұрын
It seems the Labour council and its 'shenanigans' has destroyed the town centre, Tommyfield Market and virtually everything else. Voting for independent parties will end all this. As a town, with some fine architecture (much tragically derelict and magnificent views, it has so much going for it. I left there after 10 years, determined to get out before the town was cut off from the main rail network when that damn tram was foisted on the town and the swift 15 minute train ride to Manchester beme a 35 minute ordeal.. Visiting a few weeks ago, I was appalled at the decline of the town.
