This is a basic video of an installation of a Transgo shift kit on a 4L60-E.
This is not a performance shift kit, it is designed to address most of the common issues that this unit originally has and correct them.

You are correct about the secrecy of transmission building. Your videos got me through diagnosing and completely overhauling my 4l80e. So far I've put 70k miles on it and it still works perfect. I've also ventured into doing 6 different 4l60e's all thanks to your knowledge. Thank you so much Hiram.

Its so dumb to hide the information.....you aren't losing work because anybody watching these videos is doing it themselves anyway. So it's just being super selfish in my opinion.

Hiram, do not be overwhelmed by all the requests people make of you. Most are simply trying to learn as much as possible from the master. Yes, we know how tough it is to make these videos and we all appreciate your efforts in doing so which go far beyond the call of duty. Keep following your heart Hiram, you obviously have a desire to share your knowledge, and we clearly wish to learn from it. DO NOT GET DISCOURAGED!! As we golfers say: "You Da Man."

Absolutely love this video. Wish there were more people willing to share information like this. I was on the fence between this kit and the sonnax kit because of the pwm valve, sonnax claimed their way was the only way to do it properly, because it limited the torque converter pressure to 100psi...it looks like this kit tackled the issue in the same manner. I was also worried about not being able to upgrade the boost valve since I cant down my daily driver to pull the trans. I absolutely love that you simulated the install as if it were in the vehicle and showed the boost valve being replaced. Thank you sir, you saved me a major headache and quite a bit of money.

2 years ago my '06 Avalanche had developed a flare in the 2/3 shift. I decided to go with this TransGo kit and whatever internet advice I could find (which was quite a bit). I replaced the plastic accumulator pistons, added the 'Vette servo and a couple other things using this (and other Hiram videos) as my bible. Somewhat to my surprise after I got it together and took it for a ride that trans shifted flawlessly! Nice firm (but not stupid hard) 1/2 shift, perfect 2/3 and 3/4 shifts. It's been flawless since and start to finish only cost about $140 and took maybe 4 hours. You ARE the King, Hiram! Thanks man!!

Thank you for sharing your time and knowledge. I'm sure other rebuilders are afraid to share their expertise for fear that people will begin to do their own transmission rebuilding. I have been a general technician for 47 years with some basic transmission knowledge and there is no way I would ever attempt to completely rebuild one even after viewing most of your videos. Please keep them coming whenever you can. I really enjoy watching a true expert apply their trade.

For anyone doing this on the vehicle, when you pull off the 1-2 accumulator housing, there is a checkball above the upper gasket that will fall down. My process for dealing with this was removing the accumulator first, then the valve body while leaving the three bolts that hold the plate stiffener in place with the valve body removed. Next, use one of the bolts through a 10mm deep socket to hold the opposite side of the plate (from the 1-2 accumulator housing) up to the transmission. Remove the accumulator housing and you should be able to see the check ball in place above the plate right beside the large circular opening for the 3-4 accumulator piston. Place a strong fridge magnet on the bottom of the plate below the checkball and then remove the plate. The check ball should stay attached to the magnet through the plate. You can use this method in reverse to reinstall the plate with the check ball on top of it. Your video is SO awesome! Thank you for making this. The TransGO kit instructions should include a link to this!

Before taking off the separator plate by taking off the stiffer plate, put two blocks of wood under the extension, housing and pick up all of the check up the check balls, the magnetic pick up tool, then take the separator plate off and get the check by the accumulator sounds like you’re doing at the hardware

Thanks for all 4l60e videos you've done, you tought me well on how to rebuild a 4l60e. I rebuilt my 2 months ago & I've even impressed a few of my friends with my newly found skill of transmission rebuild, since then I had 3 people ask to ask me to rebuild there's all owns a 4l60e. I'm thinking about opening a transmission repair service myself, but I still have so much more to learn about other transmissions as well but your videos put me at a good start. And once again thanks for sharing your knowledge & wisdom to me & the world.

Just wanted to say thanks for the video. It prompted me to go ahead attempt installation of the same Transgo shift kit in my 2002 GMC Sierra with only 52K. It recently started having hard 1-2 shifts and an occasional triple shudder on the 1-2 shift after highway driving. Thanks to your video I have a good working transmission and hopefully prevented any damage to the rest of the trans.

One of the better videos out there for sure. Best parts? Knowing what the problem would be if certain springs you mentioned break. Learning the importance of the bolt pattern on the install. As far as the longer bolts going through and causing no revers. I always get a piece of foam and stick the bolts in that in the pattern I take them out so I know how they go back in exactly. Low revers piston check ball having broke tabs, flipping the isolator valve for trouble code PA1870. PWM to an on/off. 3-2 down shift spring breakage and having upshift only one time then it takes off in high gear. Just some good info for trouble shooting for sure.

Thank you so much for your videos. They really helped me with my 2002 tahoe. I came back to donate but you don't have an option to do so. On the separator plate I have everything stock except took out 3-4 accumulator piston and tapped hole with a 1/4-20 3/4 setscrew with locktight (no need to drill hole) but drilled all the holes except for bottom left 2, I did .073 on those and .093 on rest. My second gear shift is the only one I think is a bit rough. I think I should have done .080 on that one. I also used the Fitzall TCC block off and I'm actually liking how the TC works now (was slipping before) but now shifts early and loads heavy on hills but I think I'll get much better MPG knowing how to use it to my advantage.

This is an awesome vid! Dont let the haters and peeky people tell you otherwise Last night, my 07 GMC Sierra with 4L60e picked up not one, but 2 symptoms. I went on the highway and did a 15 min run to a nearby town. Once i returned, and exited the highway i came to a set of lights. Upon leaving the lights, i noticed 1st to 2nd shift felt a little long and the rpms were abit higher than normal... 2nd to 3rd shift feels like its slipping. But i believe its what is called shift flare? The rpms jump up and then back down, as its going into 3rd gear. 4th gear seems to engage as normal... I want to mention that the trans has performed flawlessly up untill this point. And both symptoms happens after getting off the highway. About 2 months ago, i replaced filter and fluid in the trans, as what i thought was preventative maintenance...Maybe i should have left it all alone? I used GM Dexron VI from the dealership. Could the 1st to 2nd issue be a bad accumulator piston? And the 2nd to 3rd issue, possibly the check valve stuck into the plate? Or do these 2 symptoms sound like something else? My fingers are crossed that its not a complete rebuild, cause at this time i really dont have the funds for something like that... just recently purchased my first home, and after down payment, not much left in the bank! Lol Thanks for any info you could provide me I really enjoy your videos, and have actually watched them before my issues started last night! Keep up the good work

Hi. I just finished a full 4l60e rebuild for my '98 Sierra pickup. Your videos were a huge help. Thank you. Tranny seems fine other than p1870 code. Watched your other video and did the 1-2 valve switch around with the spring in first to match the shift kit valve and drilled the two holes in my new transgo separator plate. Had good 1-2 shifts but 2-3 was acting funny so I ended up buying a new oem acdelco valve body correct numbered to match my old one. It came assembled and ready to be put in but now that my separator plate is drilled larger should I buy a new plate if I am going to run the valve in it's stock configuration? Is the increased hole size going to make a difference? My old valve looks like yours in the video with the two cups that fit over the small spring. The new valve has a larger spring that fits over two posts one on each of the two valve pieces. I figured I would leave it stock and run it as is but I'm not sure if the increased size of the two holes is going to cause a problem for the stock valve body? Thanks, Alex.

Great tutorial. My sunshell broke in the fall. I'm doing a tear down of the transmission and doing a few upgrades (sonnax sun shell, sonnax accumulator billets performance kit, transgo shift kit, corvette servo and a remco rebuild kit). Price is about 1100 canadian. My question is if I have all those upgrades do I have to have a better quality 2-4 band and a high performance shift kit. I'm wondering if the upgrades will wear out the regular transgo shift kit and remco frictions and band? Thoughts...thank you from Saskatchewan 🇨🇦

If yours is stuck on, then your trans likely overheated and you're probably looking at a complete rebuild. I have a high-mileage unit and had minimal sticking. Use a razor blade or utility knife blade to carefully remove the stuck gasket.

Why did you not drill one of the "Drill .093" holes shown in the diagram at @20:34? Was this deliberate or an oversight? The hole I'm talking about is about two inches above the word "Use" in the largest of the five text boxes and immediately above a (C) checkball annotation. I'm going to install this kit in my 4L60E and want to know whether I should follow the TransGo instructions or follow your lead. Secondly, have you used the pinless accumulator pistons? Do you have an opinion about them? Thanks a lot for making this video. It's excellent!

a 4l60e is a great od trans but for outta the hole, jerk neck performance, it aint got it. recently I had a 4l60 done basically just like this vid, all the goodies with sonnax parts. Its a strong runner on the highway but off the line, really not much happening. but i'll admit I'm driving a crew cab silverado, which probably weighs close to 6 thousand lbs. my stock vortec heads have been fully worked and i'm using a pretty hot cam, 4:10 tru trac posi gears, with a billet 3200 - 3500 stall conv. here are the parts that were used in my transmission. high energy rebuild kit w/ bonded pistons wide band EPC solenoid HD sprag assembly full roller 5 pinion gear set full roller sonnax sun shell unbreakable pump rings sonnax super hold servo billet 4th servo billet accumulator piston set sonnax performance pack sonnax 2-3 shift valve. full syn. fluid $2,782.92 a lot of dough for a trans that really isn't any different off the line, from stock. Don't know if a transgo kit woulda helped but i really am wondering now?? i had many a 350 turbos and one 700 r4 with transgo shift kits, and they barked hard second gear scratches. but i was told before the build that since i'm using a stall, that I shouldn't be expecting it to hit like the trannnys I had before, that were using mild torque converters. so, i guess it took 2700 hundred bucks to finally be convinced that a 4l60e ain't got NO BALLS!

Chev, don't forget, torque management is a bitch and will rob your performance parts.

@@dillonkoch72 A ZR2 with 310 ft-lbs??? Did you turbo a 4.3L or did you LSx it? No way is an NA 4.3L putting out that sort of power.

Hey gr8 vid. Im planning to rebuild my 2004r and put in the reprogramming kit - my 77 camaro is a pretty wild ride -but the shifts seem to take a little long. I have a 3k stall, cam headers vortec roller 342 rear. Will the basic kit increase the shifting time? or shd i go for the full reprog kit? probably close to 400 ft lbs of torque coming thru - sunday car..

That sounds bizarre. So if I tore into one and found it had no gaskets, I don't suppose it could hurt anything to put gaskets in, would it?

Hi Hiram I have a question.... would it be ok to use Sonnax pinless pistons in combination with the transgo shift kit ? And what do you think about the pinless accumulator pistons in general ? I did learn lot of stuff from your videos and think I will try my first rebuild my self.

I have a 4l60e in my 4WD Avalanche with about 115K on a rebuild. It really works well - I flush it every 30-40K - but I'm starting to notice a slight and occasional 2-3 flare. Was thinking about pulling the VB and installing that Transgo kit, I figure even if it doesn't help it can't hurt...right? It's an '06 so I presume it's one of those that I can't change the boost valve w/out pulling the trans so it's staying put. But is there any reason I wouldn't want to install that kit? What other extra parts might I want to throw in while I have the VB out? If it's one of those gasket-less setups can I throw gaskets in anyway? Your videos do rock!

Hiram; is this the same procedure for a 4L65E? I would think there aint much difference. I predict you will be bless 100 fold for sharing! Keep it up. You are the Jay Leno of transmissions! P.S. Are you located in So Cal and if not can you recommend anyone in So Cal for a shift kit install or rebuild. Thanks again!

Hiram, what is your opinion of the B&M Shift Plus? That is the electronic box B&M offers that has three adjustments to shift quality. Thanks.
