To remove a stripped out bell housing bolt. I use a left handed 1/2 drill bit. If you get lucky, it will snag the bolt while drilling and spin the bolt out. When removing the pump seal (and rear seal) place a shop towel over the shaft to catch the seal from splattering fluid and flying across the room.

Great tip, Gearshifter! Will try grab a left handed 1/2 bit and give that a shot... I tried the shop towel thing and it either falls off or doesn't stop it. I may use an actual rag next time.

When I hear those terms flat rate or replace or repair only what’s needed I immediately think no leaks circuit or leaky drums were addressed, which means a three and four clutch failure is looming and bound to happen
@nickstransmissions3 ай бұрын
Yep, very few flat rate shops test for anything..If it isn't burnt, falling apart in their hands or otherwise not obviously damaged, it's getting slapped back together.

always happy to see your uploads. I learn a lot from them. It almost gives me the courage to rebuild mine lol Is there a parts list/kit you recommend. It'll be for stock/towing in my s10 crew cab
@nickstransmissions3 ай бұрын
Thank you, Robert! Appreciate the kind words...If you're looking for an all-encompassing kit with most everything you need (except for the electrical package) in one kit, check out eBay's Deluxe kits....If you search "4L60E Deluxe Rebuild Kit", you'll generate a list of results...Just scroll through until you see your vehicle's year along with the level of kit you want. For example, you can get a kit that comes with upgraded Alto frictions, BW Band, steel plates, forward sprag clutch, Transgo shift kit, heat treated sun shell, paper/rubber, filters and gaskets...Most of these kits are sold on eBay by Transpartswarehouse.com...They're one of the largest suppliers of transmission rebuild components in the country...I've used their kits countless times, they're good to go.

Thank you! It's hard to find good and correct info! I use to watch, " This is Richard, back at ya" but some of what he said changed my mind about him?

Thanks, man - appreciate the kind words! What did Richard say specifically that made you suspect his information was questionable in that or those instances?

Thanks again for the great content Nick; much appreciated. In the video you mention that the customer will be getting a wide 2/4 band. Do you have a go-to recommendation for that as I'm thinking of adding that my current build but not sure about which to pick. It's a mostly stock build for a 2002 Avalanche w/ 4wd. Thanks again brother.

Thank you Tony! I always run the Alto Wide Red band for anything street-driven and their Kevlar band for race or very serious street/strip units where it's understood the transmission is more of a maintenance item to be refreshed periodically between racing seasons, etc... Installing the Alto Red wide band and new reverse input drum almost always provides you ideal band clearance when using a factory two-groove pin, regardless of servo pistons being used.

So, 25 mph then neutral? Or 25 mph top end? Would you like to know an easier way, to remove the LR.. other than a hammer ?
@nickstransmissions3 ай бұрын
Hey Larry, if you can share an easier and less clunky way to get the ctr support and l/r clutch out, I'd be happy to know it as would others, I imagine. I'll follow up later with a response to your first question.
@larryschaum62803 ай бұрын
@@nickstransmissions I use a pair of snap ring pliers, between the case and where the anti rattle spring goes. When you squeeze the pliers. The support will move. While holding the pliers, shoot some air into the low reverse (put a rag over the air nozzle) it will pop right out. No damage to the case or lugs.

Sweet, thank you Larry! I will do that on the next 700R4 or 4L60E teardown I film...

Great video , almost done with mine i will follow you recommendations and install pinless accumulators . I did go over the trans throughout not sure on the boost valve in the pump, i did get an 13vane used pump that was rebuild and i did install the transgo pump spring but not sure if i need .500 boos valve. 95 camaro thanks..
@nickstransmissions3 ай бұрын
Thanks, man! Yep, I like the pinless accumulator piston in 4th but keep the factory one for 2nd gear unless you're running a higher stall converter. I'd definitely get the Sonnax 4L60E LB1 or LB2...The LB1 works in all years 4L60E from 1993-E2005...The LB2 works in all years L2005+...You can differentiate the two by the length of the 'nipple' on the front of the boost valve sleeve....The early design is longer while the late one is very short.
@lysawy823 ай бұрын
@nickstransmissions thanks i am running a 2400 stall on this so will be going w all pinless ones..
@nickstransmissions3 ай бұрын
Sounds like a good plan, man. Let me know how it turns out.
@lysawy823 ай бұрын
Hey got a bit of plot twist my self so im doing my pinless accumulators and for 1-2 it requires stock or sonnax special spring all i have is stack of 3 springs from shift kit ,should i just use one sonnax spring or white medium spring from shift kit or just keep what i got with stock piston thanks alot 👍
@nickstransmissions3 ай бұрын
Install what you have and see how it goes...The pinless piston will provide a small bump in firmness regardless of what spring(s) you use but the Transgo set isn't much firmer than stock...If it's too harsh then you'll want to install the Sonnax or factory spring set up.

That has to be the nastiest transmission fluid I’ve ever seen

Any kind of gear lube always tends to stink beyond imagination. I wonder what is in the stuff that makes it wreak?

The issue nowadays is everyone wants a brand new Craigslist transmission for 400 dollars and don’t want to pay for a good built unit.
@nickstransmissions3 ай бұрын
Yep - too many flat raters out there...Plus too many folks want to do things twice....We both have rebuilt our fair share (if not more than our fair share) of "good-used" 4L60Es that lasted all of one-six months before taking a dump, putting the owner back to square one...

Great video and great job with teaching people. I have built a lot of transmissions for city buses but just a few of the newer transmissions. I’m learning from you though I’m too old to do it anymore. One thing that I learned is if you already know everything, you will never learn anything knew at all. Love your videos and premium workmanship.

Thanks, Wilburn! Yep, I learn something new on just about every transmission I work on...
