I was under the assumption it was bigger and wasn't compatible. I just went out there and pulled the glove off and what do you know, same thing smaller u joint. I was looking all over the Internet trying to find a conversion joint for using the 2500 shaft on the 10 bolt rear. (I'm not ready to swap axles yet the 10 bolt has 513 gears. I'm already hemorrhaging enough money just getting this 4l80 in there without swapping axles the truck has been sitting since 2012 when i blew up the Monster "HD 4L60E" after 5k miles... so i want to drive it and iron out the problems I'll have from it sitting before i deal with the problems troubleshooting the solid able swap Dana 60. I have a 2003 Sierra work truck with a fleet side 6'8" long bed. I want to remove the 4L60E (23.5" length) transmission and replace it with the 4L80E (26.4") length transmission. The math seems to say I need a 32 spline yoke that slides into the rear of the 4L80E transmission that is shorter by approximately 2.9". My main issue is that I have not pulled the driveshaft off yet so I cannot share the yoke parameters currently on the truck. But I'm not really sure that would be very meaningful as the current 4L60E transmission is being replaced anyway.
@MohawkMotors6 ай бұрын
The 4l80 yoke has more slip/spline length than needed in most applications. Assuming you are stock ride height, and the yoke is not rusted or damaged, you can remove some length from the front of the spline/slip area (the part that goes into the transmission) to shorten it enough to work. The hazard of driveshaft being too long is it bottoming out in the transmission when your suspension travels, removing excess length from the front of the slip yoke, can achieve the same thing as shortening the driveshaft, as long as you still have adequate spline engagement on the output shaft, rule of thumb for spline engagement is 2.5xdiameter of shaft.

what do you mean wobbling? the yoke is wobbling? The steering is loose? yes it is counterbored, I don't know if all of them are but this one was/is. Switching a 4x4 from 4l60 to 4l80 is a completely different process, you'll need to change the input shaft on the transfer case to match the larger output shaft of the transmission. You may need to find a different transmission to transfer case adapter as well. Plus the transmissions are different lengths so you may need to get the driveshafts lengthened/shortened as well as relocate the transmission crossmember. It's a substantially more involved project to change from 4l60 to 4l80 in a 4x4
