Hey nice video so i haveplay on my steering enough were i dont drive on freeway anymore . I have taken my gearbox completely apart all new seals no leaks and adjusted the gearbox out of truck. New pitman arm bleeded system properly with vacuum applied to system.rebuilt hydrobooster Replaced the secondary arm on steering aside pitman arm and still play. Decided to buy a lifetime gearbox from store and still have play . Replaced the steering wheel sensor,the bearing by steering shaft new intermediate shaft . Still have play , i tightened the gearbox to perfect closest friction point of no play. Any ideas?

Something is still worn. Check all steering linkage: tie rods, rag joint, wheel bearings, control arm bushings, ball joints. If anything is worn it will cause play.

A walrus walked into the 4Lane Blacktop shop carrying a steering box that was leaking out of the bottom. James looked at the steering box and then the walrus and said, "It looks like you blew a seal." The walrus turned to the side and wiped off his chin and said, "Never mind that, can you fix the steering box or not?!!" (Butchered joke to fit the occasion)

Hi, mine went in my danali, (leaking)new is $500-800, I can get a used one for $75 bucks (non rebuilt) out of an 04 with 200,000 km on it. I wonder if its a good idea to have that put in. I can’t afford new and I have been told from a few places they could rebuild but good chance it would leak again. Thoughts?? Thanks.

Hey man thanks for the video! I have one question. So on that lower seal, the one that you put in after the snap ring, did you put the grooved side in towards the snap ring? The flat side out?
@4LaneBlacktop

Yes. Grooved side in towards the snap ring, Flat side out. This was exactly how the was before I took it apart.
@JohnSmith-vt5ry
@JohnSmith-vt5ry 3 жыл бұрын
@@4LaneBlacktop actually I had same question. If you watch your vid that lower seal actually came out groove side up (pitman arm side) but you installed the new one groove side down. Can you watch it and confirm? I have rebuilt my entire box but forgot how the seal came out. I am at the last seal (lower seal) and several vids about this Delphi (like your vid) shows the groove side up towards pitman arm, but mechanically it makes no sense as I would think the groove side should be towards the oil. On the Saginaw (not Delphi) the seal is as you installed with groove side down towards the gear box. There are vids of people talking about this oddity. This lower seal issue on Delphi is insane.
@4LaneBlacktop
@4LaneBlacktop 3 жыл бұрын
@@JohnSmith-vt5ry However you see me install the seal is how the old seal came out of my box. Not saying its right or wrong between different boxes, its just how mine came. Never leaked either way.
@JohnSmith-vt5ry
@JohnSmith-vt5ry 3 жыл бұрын
@@4LaneBlacktop ok thanks. Not arguing I am just saying if you watch your video and freeze it the old seal came out opposite of how you installed the new one. The vid below (see minute 8:30 to 9:00) shows this seal opposite of your install. No big deal but I think you made the same mistake we’re all making. But if your is not leaking then it probably does not matter. I have even heard this seal called a “dust seal” so it’s only for keeping dust out and not for holding oil pressure. That’s why it’s not under the snap ring I guess. Thanks for vid. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iYqkmqmbZ7GdoLc

This was very good video to help me fix my 2005 escalade. The only detail that didn't match was the nut on my pitman arm which was 34mm rather than 31. Also for anyone reading this comment, just take the pitman arm off of the steering box because you'll be wasting time trying to get it off of your center link.

@@woodstovehooters4558 No stores in my city had the tool needed (something like Miller Tool 8677) to remove it from the center link and hammering at it did nothing. I tried a reversible puller too but it couldn't get a hold of it and kept slipping off. The easiest route for me was to take the pitman arm off the shaft itself, but if you don't have an impact wrench, it's going to be hard to torque it back down from underneath the car.
