The 2011 draft was the first with the new rookie wage scale, which probably led to the amount of early QB's. Locker staying for his senior year cost him an insane amount of money. Bradford got 6/76 and Newton got 4/22.

In hindsight it seems ridiculous but with how long it took Cam to develop All-Pro level accuracy, it made sense to have a "dual threat vs. pocket passer" debate. Ironically Gabbert also became more mobile over time as well and improved his arm strength. Just did it way too late to be a solid started

I still believe to this day Blaine Gabbert in the right situation (like the vast majority of QBs) would have done really well and could have had a much different career. Cam was a better athlete and I think he exceeded most of our expectations, which were already high. But Gabbert was a talented athlete in his own right. Nowadays, I think he's a top 15 backup. But sometimes I wonder what could have been.
@drayiii980 Жыл бұрын
As a Jaguars fan, while Gabbert didn't come into a good situation and was thrown into the fire too quickly- I still have no doubt there's no situation in which he would have become a quality full-time starter. The guy panicked WAY too easily in the pocket and it was glaringly obvious of this even in college; so much so I have no idea what the Jaguars or any team saw in him as a 1st Round pick. Prototypical size I guess? smh.... He's definitely improved but his ceiling's always been a backup who can maybe grab a couple wins here and there

If you think Fields is better then this is a terrible comparison, Wilson is basically a lock to go to the Jets at #2, Fields is the one sliding, this would make Wilson more comparable to Cam

Doesn’t help Fields that literally every single Ohio St QB has busted hard. I’d still pick Wilson over him.

Hol up.... neither have gotten a chance in the NFL yet and they are both legit better than Ponder, Locker, and Gabbert were in college. Also, scouting has improved a lot. And maybe Justin Fields can break the Ohio State QB struggles in the NFL "curse"
@MrReece93 жыл бұрын
Hold on. Wilson benefitted from favorable circumstances. He had one great season where he torched vs depleted pandemic defenses, a great O-Line, and one of the weaker schedules in college football. Before that season, Wilson was nothing to write home about. If Wilson being drafted by the Jets sounds like success to anyone, you are sadly mistaken. Fields has the opportunity to end up on a better team with better weapons.

I always liked Cam, not really for his stats tho. He would always get the ball on a touchdown and give it to a kid. He would even take the ball from teammates and do that. That's pretty awesome. Imagine being a young kid and Cam runs up to you to give you the ball. You'd never forget that moment.

Tbh Andy dalton might have been the better QB. He won more career games than Newton by two and has more passing TD’s played in a way tougher conference and division. Also Cam obviously was better cause he could do more with his legs but that’s wild that he fell off so bad after the SB .
