I'm a Nebraska fan and a couple months back a buddy of mine from high school was on Twitter bitching about Nebraska only getting 3-star commitments at that point in time. My response to him was frankly, I would rather have someone who's slightly less talented but genuinely gives a shit than someone that's talented but doesn't care nearly as much and/or will transfer at the first sign of adversity. Not saying that talent means one doesn't have to care, as I'm sure the majority of 4 & 5 star prospects do go on to do big things in the world of college football as well as the NFL, but it's easier to be hungry for success when despite how good they may have been in high school - even to rated a 2-star you still have to be a pretty decent player and usually put up some solid numbers - they're being overlooked by recruiting services and even schools. Someone having a chip on their shoulder - if channeled correctly - can do some amazing things and get the most out of their potential, compared say to a Bryce Brown that could have been amazing if he had half the work ethic as he did talent, case in point the fact he was still given a chance in the NFL and held his own despite his troubles and lack of playing time in college.

Brandon donta Hightower was a three star recruit till nick saban offered him, then look at what he did for bama and he’s still starting for the pats
@b7grams5 жыл бұрын
@@anythingthoughanythingthou2453 Exactly. JJ Watt was a three-star out of high school. This season's Heisman winner and the potential #1 pick this spring Joe Burrow was another three-star. One of Nebraska's last great defensive players - Prince Amukamara - was a three-star and ended up becoming a first-round pick and was a Big 12 defensive POTY. There are a few reasons why some players end up receiving lower ratings in high school but find success in college and the pros, but whatever it is, rankings on paper aren't always indicative of how someone will pan out when you up the level of competition in college and potentially the pros as some welcome the challenge mentally and physically, some melt like the snowflakes they've been raised to be (especially now-a-days), and some are just flat out unlucky when it comes to the opportunities they're given or being bitten by the injury bug.
