4Runner Moab Series, Part 4: Hell's Revenge

What a trail. This was my favorite trail during our short trip. Highlight was definitely meeting Vaughn Gittin Jr / vgittin and Loren Healy (2X King of Hammers champ) / @lorenhealy3033 and their new Broncos. Loren did Hell's gate in reverse in his Cactus Gray Bronco. There was also a Bronco sport in their crew that also did Hell's Gate a couple times. They even stuck around and assisted in spotting for my climb up Hell's gate. Sit back and enjoy the video and we can't wait to get back out there!!!

Nice video, been there with my stock Off Road. It was the best thing I have done. Covered some other trails too. What a beautiful part of the country. Potash road has some nice trails on it as well that were challenging. I white knuckled the exact area you did. Bumpers scraped but i like the scratches on the silver covers. Free souvenirs in my opinion.

Yours is the only video that I have seen that mentions doing Hell's Revenge (and Hell's Gate) in A-Trac, and not using the locker. I am currently debating installing a locker in my SR5 and your vid has made me wonder if I need it. Thanks for posting, I enjoyed it!!

There are definitely times when atrac won't be enough, especially on loose dirt. A good chunk of the time it's good enough but not always.

Wow Hell's Gate with only atrac? That pretty impressive, especially considering you fell off the line. Makes me wonder if my 98 (no atrac) with a rear locker could make it up. It's also a manual though which I'm sure makes things extra tricky trying not to stall out.

Hey man I have an SR5 with a 300 pound arb bull bar up front - you think I could make it up hells gate in 4lo with the peddle commander in sport plus 2 ?

I used eco on my pedal commander. Keeps the throttle in check. I would not recommend an aggressive throttle when wheeling. Definitely have a spotter and you should be able to do it if you take your time and be careful.

So is this route pretty moderate if you skip hells gate, I'm looking to do it in a 3 inch spacer lifted but otherwise stock 2008 4Runner TRD 4x4, do you think it's reasonable for a beginner

Well, if you miss that turn and go out the back way, it gets more exciting. I think you should be able to do most of it with that setup. Just be careful and watch your lines.

I know I'm 6 months late but spacers really are a crappy way to lift a vehicle. They can cause all sorts of issues including bottoming out your shocks before you hit your bumps. They make the ride horrible too. Spend the money at least on some Billstein 5100s if not better and you will be so much better off in the long run and more capable.

You can only fully remove them next Gen (6th gen) 4runner will have a front sway bar disconnect.

@@BirdDogOffRoadAdventures Unless you have KDSS (which really well imitates a disconnected sway bar when going slow) you can manually remove the links and tie the sway bar up out of the way.
