I installed the exact same unit in my 2023 4Runner, and it works as advertised. I did find an interesting "feature" when using the rear hatch up and down buttons. If you press either of them three times in a row, the car will start. YMMV.

Put this one on my ‘21 TRD ORP a year ago and one of these on my girls ‘18 RAV4. Took about 10-15 minutes to install and extremely easy to install. Great on the winter days and on hot days to cool off. I didn’t get any draws from these on either yota.

On the 2021 did you need to take the glove box off to make connections ?

@ yeah I did. You have to, but it’s extremely easy. Start-X has an install video on their website that brings you here lol however you access it. It took me 20-25 minutes to install it and it took 5-10 minutes making sure everything was ziptied out of the way and not to anything important. If you can use a ratchet and watch a video you can do this. Extremely easy and everything on the 4Runner reference panels are solid and easy to remove without fear of breaking anything if you take your time and follow the directions. Well worth it in the winter. I don’t use it much the rest of the year, but I used my scanner to redo the settings so I can have all my windows and sunroof roll down with my remote or key and I use that in the summer lol

Most of these control units are the same. I have an MPC that was cheaper when I got it 2 years ago. Simple install, maybe 20 min to install. I park 10 feet from my house, so works great.

I have a similar remote start system from Accessorides. It's very nice to have a way to warm up the car in the cold winter months. BUT it doesn't seem like there is a way to have the rear/mirror defrosters or wiper defrosters to turn on with the remote start which is unfortunate. One really funny quirk: You can remote start it from the rear hatch buttons. If you do the 3x press on the up arrow it will start the 4runner.

It sounds like you want to start your Toyota 4 runner by remote which is great but at the same time, TURN ON THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS, THE DEICER FOR THE BACK WINDOW AND THE MIRRORS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE DOORS, HOW ABOUT THE RADIO AND HEATED SEATS AND JUST MAYBE IT WILL BE ABLE TO SHIFT FROM "H2 TO H4 OR L4 FOR YOU THEN LAST BUT NOT LEAST YOUR TOYOTA 4 RUNNER WILL SHIFT INTO DRIVE AND DRIVE AWAY FOR YOU THAT WAY YOU GOT NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT. THAT WOULD BE THE ELEET REMOTE CONTROL TO OBTAIN, YOU CAN'T GO WRONG. 😊

the issue with this START-X kit is if you add a mobile unit, the unlock feature doesnt work with the phone app.. also push-to-start models should use something with a 'take over' option to prevent the car from shutting down when opening the door

Should have gotten the N2 Designs remote start w/key takeover. I installed it and the wireless module 2wks ago. It doesn’t shut off when you open the doors. Gives you 45seconds to get in and depress the brake pedal for 3seconds and shift to gear.

@@T4Rgarage No splicing with the N2 module or wireless module. Simple plug and play. The other one you have to cut a wire or leave it depending on your steering wheel I saw.

Yes it’s called a remote start with key takeover from either N2 Designs or Accessories.

I’ve installed the unit and reprogrammed multiple times and it appears to be getting signal and attempting to start but I noticed my 4Runners security light is on when trying to start. Is my 4Runner blocking the start?

@@romeocruzjr2145 It will not, the sequence is different. The window roll feature is press and hold. There is no holding , just a sequence of presses

I did install a similar setup for my lexus but i have to “preset my heating” before i turn my ignition off in preparation for the next day start up and can not preset my defrosters to turn on either from cold. Can you with this kit?

@@BlueInOrangeAgain On the push to start models to prevent theft, yes. It still warms your interior and engine up while you brush your teeth. Unfortunately you do have to press a button when you get in. It’s the same with the models that come with remote start from factory, it’s annoying.

They have a newer version now that keeps the vehicle on when you open the door. The key fob takeover version I believe.

Makes no sense for the vehicle to turn off when you open the door. It should use a shift lockout that doesn't allow the transmission to be taken out of Park while remote started. That's how my Jeep's remote start works.
