Showing you all how to properly size, fit and install a Yakima Skybox on a 2017 5th Gen Toyota 4Runner. We use the Yakima Timberline Towers with the SL adapter kit and Yakima HD Bars to carry our 16 cubic foot Skybox. The installation process takes roughly 30-45 minutes.

I have HD bars on my truck and I cannot get the Skybox to clamp down. If i loosen the bolt too much the thumb screw falls off when I close them. I tried emailing Yakima and they said they might try sending me a different set of latches. Just looking at the thumb screws you have, yours are different (hopefully longer) so I hope they send me whatever you’re using …

Im about to purchase the skybox 16 in a few hours. I was told it works fine on the factory crossbars but might be just about to scrape the roof ( I can place a matt under there no problem) but Is there anything else i should know though?Specifically why to go with extra crossbars?

Good question, why throw away perfectly good factory cross bars? Are they too low and roof box doesn't fit because of the shark fin radio antenna?

Are the floor mats delivered rolled? I ordered a husky liner for the trunk area and it was shipped rolled up. I couldn’t get it to sit flat and it was disappointing.

My husky was the same, but it does flatten overtime. Throw something on it and it will flatten. They only sent me the fronts and rear seat, not the trunk, but I am sure it would be rolled also. All about shipping cost unfortunately

FYI the Yakima Skybox NX 18 and the CBX 18 do fit on a 5th generation 4Runner

Nice, can you open the hatch without hitting? Seems like it would be tough to clear any more than the 16

@@BtwilliasGarage yes, no hatch issues. The Skybox 12 contacts the hatch/spoiler but the 18 of these new models was specifically designed to have improved hatch clearance.

@@BtwilliasGarage I should also clarify that the standard/old Skybox 18 does NOT fit a 4Runner. Only these new NX and CBX versions of the 18 boxes fit a 4Runner.

@@chrisvan8638 Yes, right. Otherwise, what's the point on spending ~$300 on the Toyota factory roof rails and crossbars. Floor mats manufacturers produce floor mats to fit a car but not the car is made to fit the floor mats. Unless is intentionally done by Yakima, Thule and others to force people buying 3rd party crossbars. I've seen Yakima Skybox 21 on Honda Pilot factory crossbars and it fits perfectly. It depends on the vehicle length. So I imagine it should fit this 4Runner from the video because it has a long base. And one thing also - I hate the "burger patty" view of 3rd party crossbars on a car, they look ridiculous.
