4th Gen 4Runner LED flasher Relay Replacement

You are a life saver! Everyone else's videos are about the 3rd gen. I picked up variable adjuster flash AND the resistors, just in case. But I'd prefer to just use the relay. The 8-pin relay is clearly what we need, not the 12-pin. For a minute, I thought you weren't gonna show the back of the relay. Also, I saw in other videos and diagrams that the relay behind the fuse box was a packaged-box-of-relays and I didn't know which one in the package to replace. But your video clearly shows that it is just one relay by itself, similar to the 3rd gen. Just wish I had your video about two weeks ago when I took the dash apart to replace all the bulbs for the switches. Will do this fix this weekend. Much appreciated, Sir!

Update: I was able to install the new Variable adjusting relay. I let it hang down behind the fusebox, and I can reach it under the dash. I was not able to remove the old relay from the fusebox; i tried different screwdrivers and different tools to try and push that old fuse off its mount...no luck. Just left it in place, doesn't hurt anything. I like the idea of being able to adjust the flashing if/when adding/removing LEDs. I shoudl clarify I'm installing on an 2004 4Runner SR5.

I, too, had a real hard time getting the relay out. Thought I wasn't going to make it w/o taking whole thing apart. I used a very thin screw driver to lift up the little latch that had to be somewhere in there while holding and pushing the relay with the other hand. After several tries, luckily the relay moved and was able to push it out. Sorry for late replay.

@@ralphcintron6195 Since there is cable with an adapter that plugs up to the old relay, I just removed it and connected my new relay to the cable/plug and just let it hang down. I would like to zip tie it to keep it in a fixed location, but haven't figured out a spot yet. It doesn't have much length on the cable, so there really won't be many options. It doesn't really get in the way nor does it move around much, so there hasn't been any urgency on trying to secure it.

@Moxnix1701 I see you unplugged and plug it in the new one and left the old on there good idea.did yours have 8 pin or 12 thanks for the info

Does your 4Runner also have DRLs (daytime running lights)? They are the same bulbs as the front turn signals. I’m finding mixed information if just the different relay will work for 4Runners that have DRLs in use.

I tried one relay from diode dynamics that didn’t work because it’s for non drl cars 😅😅

Mine doesn't have DRLs so I won't be able to say whether or not they are the same ones. But I replaced the front parking lights with LEDs, too. So they are way brighter than before.

Any luck finding a relay compatible with DRL to fix the hyper flashing issue?

@@guycorp1325 I ground down the relay wire inside the relay box that is behind the fuse panel under the dash

Does this work for models with DRL's or are the DRL models the 12 pin relay

Well it says it fits the 03-09 models so it should fit the ones with drls

Anyone able to find a video to take the panels off for the flasher relay removal?

It’s very easy couple screws in the foot well area, take the rubber ring off the ignition key cylinder. It’s friction fit

The gas cap opener and the hood opener levers also can be easily moved. Just look closely and you'll see it.

@@lincolnp yeap but the fuse box has 3 screws acutally 2 screws and screw on nut to lower it to see the relay and remove it
