I mistakenly purchased a 5 pin flasher relay instead of the 5 pin Bosch for some LED pod lights for my quad distance to the parts store and general laziness have me wondering if I can run them with the wires reversed so as to prevent the pulse for the flash or will this LED flash relay overheat?

What is it when the right side works with the led but the left side won't flash
@bernardocisneros440211 ай бұрын
@@vincentjayvalenzona4051Yes, as long as the Watt rating on the halogen bulb is less than the Watt rating on the LED flasher.
@bernardocisneros440211 ай бұрын
@@chukkpurdy5151Are you referring to this video? The LED bulbs were on the left side and the incandescent bulbs were on the right side of the screen throughout the entire video, so I don't understand your question. The reason why the LED bulbs don't blink when connected to the old style flasher is because the old style flasher needs more current than the LEDs can draw, to heat the bi-metallic strip inside of the old flasher. The heating and cooling of the bi-metallic strip is what causes the contacts inside the old flasher to open and close. The opening and closing of the contacts is what makes the lights blink.

Hi, thanks for the video. So the new relay style is polarity sensitive and blinks when connected correctly, but doesn't blink if wires are reversed. What about the old style relay? The one with the bi-metallic strips. Is it polarity sensitive too or does it blink regardless of how it's connected?

Yeah, it's a bendix metallic strip. Like one side tin, other side something else, and they heat up, but one heats different speed, causing the stiffer one to pull it over to its side, creating the bending action. Nice explanation. Bimetallic switch. I literally just posted a schematic of that part on another video. Far as the led pulse goes it just a bistable 555 timer ic. Square wave generator. Reversing those wires could destroy cheap led flashing circuits that do not have reverse voltage protection. To be honest they should include a full bridge rectifier circuit with that flasher so as to allow it to work correctly even if you reverse the wire connections.

Hey I have a 1964 Imperial with power windows, but I'd like to add relays to them. Can you show how to do it? 😀
@WiringRescue3 жыл бұрын
As you may expect, I'm not super familiar with 64 Imperial window wiring. However, I'm good at guessing! You'll have to do some exploring of wiring to harness to figure out which wires do which. Here are my thoughts: - You'll need 1 relay per window, so 4 total most likely. - The window switch probably (?) sends power to the window motor (as opposed to ground). This means that you'll be connecting that power wire from each switch to pin 86 on the relays. - Pin 85 on the relays are grounds. - Pin 30 on the relays should be the power coming in from a fuse box. If I were you, I'd buy one of these. vincentperformance.com/shop/leash-bdfb/ to grab all of your power from. Feed that fuse box power from the battery (with a fuse in that main wire), and then each of the fuses in this panel can power a relay/window. - Pin 87 on each relay will feed the power to each window motor. - Use all new wiring to be safe. Hope that helps you out! -Jeremy

Hi @Rattymusclecar, Thank you for that informative video! I've seen 3 videos of yours today and learnt 3 new things! All relevant to my current builds. I have a somewhat off beat question about Hazard lights though. Perhaps you can help? For reference, I live in Australia, and, whilst we have GM products here (Holden) there are of course differences between GM & GMH. I have recently purchased a 73 C10 Stepside. It's two trucks put together, the donor being a mid 80s truck/Blazer. In my efforts to make it roadworthy, I noticed there are two spaces for flasher cans in my wiring, one for directional and one for hazards, no problem there, replace missing one and truck is one step closer to roadworthy! I've had a fair few GM products before (AUS only) but have never seen two flasher cans. Is this a North American regulation or something? I've already subscribed! Sweet Le Mans too
@WiringRescue3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for subscribing! I don’t have a definite answer to your question, but I do have a guess that is probably wrong. With the car off, you want your turn signal switch and all of its functional magic to be dead. Otherwise you’d always find them blinking in grocery story parking lots without anybody in the car. However, you want your hazard switch available all the time if you car is off and your keys were stolen by a group of zombies. For some reason, GM decided that wiring it this way was smarter. In my hazard switch video, you’ll notice that my turn signals would work 24/7 and so would the hazard switch. It doesn’t matter if the car is on or off. In the interest of keeping life simple, I designed it that way. Maybe I’ll do the more complex version too… hmmm Good luck with you truck project, and thanks for the question!

@@WiringRescue I just realised what I said was actually incorrect haha. The car I'm thinking of doesn't actually have hazard lights, so of course there's no additional flasher can. It’s actually two relays. I have lots more videos showing how to build this circuit. Check out my playlist youtube.com/@WiringRescue?si=idehxtTfhPfl8Eja

I added led lights to my tractor and the hazard light no long flashed my LED gets brighter but no flash.. So If I can find where the flasher relay is and swap it with one of these flashers that should fix it

Wow, I hate driving around with witchcraft in my vehicle but I guess it’s good to let others know when I’m turning. No reality I didn’t know about the reverse polarity. Thanks for that tip ! Good job

Hey mate thanks for the video. Iv done a bulb swap on my bike to led and installed a led flasher cam but now they all flash together 😂 any ideas?

That’s pretty weird! I would bet that your hazard lights and turn signals all go through one flasher and for a reason that I don’t quite understand, the turn signals are back feeding the other lights through the hazard circuit. If you unplug the hazard switch (if posssible) you could test this idea. Either way - good luck! I’m cheering for you!

@@WiringRescuethanks for the response. I believe I have found the solution as others have found also. The indicator bulb on the dash is still globe type so installing diodes either side of it has worked for others so power doesn’t back Feed. I’ll try this thanks
