4th gen Ram 4x4 not working. How to incorrectly diagnose and fix.

My 2014 Dodge Ram 3500 is having issues with the wiring harness for the front axle disconnect, causing it to lose four wheel drive. The wiring had been repaired at some point in the past, then when I bought it the 4wd didn't work at all, since the front axle actuator, transfer case shift motor, and drivetrain control module were all dead, most likely due to the faulty wiring. After replacing all of those and fixing the wiring issues, the 4x4 worked for about a week until it quit on me again. So I incorrectly diagnose and bypass the entire wiring harness to the 4x4 working again. Then as a bonus, you get to see my rant about ‪@etrailer‬ and their horrible service.

I'd tell e-trailer to refund your expedited shipping charges and send a pre paid shipping label. Otherwise tell them to pound sand! Thanks for the heads up on poor customer service. Like Land Rover. I have two 1944 Dodges a WC51 and a WC54. You can fix anything on them , most parts still available, or fixable, and all mechanical. Mind you they were built by people who knew lives depended on them.

I know this is an old post but I’m in need of some help. I’m having a very similar issue. The wires actually ripped out of the connector. The connector is labeled 1 through 4 on the side of it. I don’t know which colors go to what number. I have two purple a red and a black. In your video I can almost see what goes where but not quite. Any help would be awesome and greatly appreciated. Pro Tip: Big sheet of cardboard works much better then a creeper, but keeps you off the dirt/gravel/water. Also, figures you have a 3wheeler hiding in the shop.

My wife wanted to try driving our Monza V-8 RWD car up onto the ramps, it was on a slight incline, on a gravel driveway. I told her to give it just a touch of gas, she gave it too much gas, the rear wheels broke loose, she panicked, gave it more gas, the rear wheels grabbed again, all that emerita drove the front wheels off of the ramps and the suspension came down on the ramps. Nothing was hurt, got the floor Jack out and got the ramps back under the front wheels. I gave her big points for wanting to try.

I have two 1944 Dodges , a WC51 and a WC54. As you say very staisfying Clunk as the big chunky lever moves, and off they go. Series Land Rover's , you could often buy one cheap 'Stuck in 4 whel drive low'. Much clucking, tooth sucking and 'Rebuild the gerabox ! Expensive! I'll buy it from you cheap. Go around corner. Unscrew Yellow knob on top of 4 low selector. Remove spring fronm shaft, it's sits sstraight over it. Place large washer down shft where it goes into transmission tunnel. Screw yellow knob back on . Drive forward work Red Knob high , low selector back and forward. Result 'Oh What a suprise ! It works !. :-)

Childish Rant Warranted.. Had a similar experience when I ordered some fishing lures...I know not the same thing exactly. But did a rush order, (didn't want to wait over a month). They were based in Florida. And instead of putting them on a plane, and flying them up to the Pacific Northwest..they via truck to Maine, stopping at 3 cities on the way. After Numerous phone calls, they said they would re-ship the order AND I needed to pay shipping...uhm I already did (though I may not have been that nice about it). 2 1/2 months later...I got my First order. NEVER saw the re-order

I am very surprised etrailer didn't credit you for all the shipping cost on a bonedoggle like this. They created the whole mess they should go out of their way to make it right. I have dealt with them a lot in the past and have had good service from them. They came down a knotch in my eyes that they handled thing in this fashion. I don't blame you a bit on makeing them wait. If it was ok for them to do it to you. Doing it back to them should be just as ok.

I'd make them send a "Call Tag" for that other wheel. Their mistake - they can pay for it. Or else, there it is, 'come and get it'. Lastly - why not deal with someone local, you know, support local businesses, like maybe Quality trailer, instead of cheap-assing it off the internet.

New scrap pieces of carpet from a floor guy is best imo. I too hate kreepers, Everytime you wrench on something it pushes you around. Carpet is nice n soft plus you get more room not being on top a keeper. When working within inches every inch counts.

My creeper is a "Bone". It has big wheels, and rolls like a dream. It will even roll on gravel. Try that with those other creepers. I don't like those small wheel creepers either.

Casey, you might want check for rodent damage, I live in Northern Sierras/ Cascades, in the bush, and I have constantly make sure mice and rats aren't trying to live in my Jeep and 🐏, I'll bet you'll find some chewing.

Had a bad experience with Etrailer last year. Not sure I'll do business with them. I ordered 4 five lug hubs and 4 backing plates for my trailer. Got 3 five lug hubs/drum and a 6 lug hub/drum. They were going to CHARGE ME EXTRA + Shipping to ship me the correct part. But since they were out of their in house 5 lug hub/drum , they were going to replace it with a dexter hub/drum. So to fix THEIR mistake they were going to charge me an extra $160. And they would refund the $75 I originally paid for the wrong part if I shipped it back to them for $50. No thanks!

I think the biggest issue with the shipping and supply chain is the inexperienced, part-time, hired help. Often the new employees have little, or no knowledge of the products they deal with...learning as they go. I have been having issues with getting the engine unit ( under warranty), replaced, for my generator. Not going to say which manufacturer, YET..., as I'm still hoping for a harmonious outcome....lol

Not a childish rant at all.. good for you for calling them out.. especially when you paid extra for expedited shipping. a month is a very long time to wait when they screwed up more than once. Frankly... they ought to let you keep the rim/tire for free as a spare as a good faith gesture for their screw up, multiple times. They should've refunded the extra charge for expedited shipping since you obvioulsy didn't get that. You know their cost is likely less than half the retail price they charged. Their wholesale cost of that tire/rim would've been s small price to pay to keep a customer happy. Great content... stay safe out there...

Interesting that cardboard gives that extra bit of friction. Another similar use to do the opposite is using glossy magazines under the wheels when you lower your car down to allow the wheels to slide out and back to normal position without having to roll it back and forth. Prob not useful for a solid axle but on my little kitcar with independant suspension it can be useful

My 3500 Ram has the vacuum discount and it never worked. I have to use my 4x4 almost every day. So I just bypassed it. Now the front axle is locked in all the time.

I wish there was an easy way to bypass this, but the problem is that if the computer doesn't see everything working correctly in the front axle, it won't engage the transfer case.
