Still love Shenmue 1&2 to bits. But Shenmue 3 was one of the worst games I've ever played, and it totally lacked the atmosphere of the originals. And I played it after all the updates, in its final form. So, if Shenmue 4 is gonna be similar trash, then I hope the project gets canned.

If they made Shenmue 4 similarly to the Third one, I would be more than content with that. It has basically the same pacing as the first game with fine adjustments. So I really don't understand how you could consider it "One of the worst games ever".

Some people just want to hate shenmue 3. It's difficult to find the right connection and continuation to an 18 year older installment. If they had made it too realistic in graphics, fast paced, open world like it would even have less of the same atmosphere then it does now. I always think Shenmue 3 is more like 1. There isn't much story, true, but S1 also didn't had particular much story progress, considering the fact S1 and 2 would be one game in the beginning. And if you play the story as slow as you should to see all events (and the fact that Shenmue 2 without an import save starts at Feb 23) Ryo takes a lot of time training (to max every move took me a looooong time). Shenmue 3 is again more about Ryo's training and in this case getting to know Shenua. His patience learned from Shenmue 2 is also a thing that he's coping with in my pov

Yu Suzuki doesn't know game design from his ass, and his mindset isn't that of a western developer but that of a mangaka, he'll just excrete another 'episode' with no closure and archaic mechanics. I have no clue why the algo recommended this to me but I can't believe there are still people that have faith in the old weirdo after his last disaster.

@@ShenmueDojoVOD Past success doesn't guarantee it in the future, most western 'game gods' from the 90s melted into obscurity or fell hard, Japanese developers aren't an exception. It's hard to argue for past greatness when his last game was a massive disappointment, and listening to interviews it was obvious he was intentionally ignorant of 1) modern game design, 2) fan expectations (once again, dude thinks he's doing Lone Wolf and Cub, he has no intention of ending the storyline). None of his post Shenmue III interviews gave me an impression that he learned any lessons from the release.

@PipBoy3k His last game (Air Twister) did fine and was a mobile and later console release. Also if you go through the interviews from post 2019 release he's actually quite open. He's offered some ideas for improvement and even said they've sat down and listened to the feedback. Not all of modern changes to games are good and they'd made a deliberate decision for 3 to feel older like the other games. You can argue its a mistake sure but also pre development Ryan Payton sat Yu Suzuki down and showed him modern games. Also fan expectations were genuinely fine (most user reviews are positive) barring story content which we all know (if you've played the games) is an issue. Also in his latest interview with us he's said he needs 2 more games to end things. While I think that's unlikely he's also been consistent since 1999 that he'd need a minimum 4-5 games for the Shenmue story. The community are OK with that. If they weren't they'd not have come out in the force they did last month.

Go play your GlitchOut 4. Yu Suzuki can at least code a game to work functionally sound even after all these years being absent from the industry. Yet way bigger budget titles still come out from Big Publishers in utter shambles.
