You just come off very fair and like you just love videogames of any kind as long as they do interesting and fun stuff (also helps that I actually do know what you enjoy which helps me further with deciding if it might be for me). Love how you usually judge the games on what they actually do and contain without all the "outrage" and overhype (or even predetermined hate) that is so common these days. Like everything either has to be the best thing ever or the worst and that just is not the case really. Most games these days are actually just pretty good imo. Of course the 100% thing gives you quite a lot of credibility as well. No particular reason why I wrote this here as I have no interest in this particular game, but I just love these reviews. Just makes everything sound interesting and quite fun. Quite lovely this day and age. Keep it up!!! :)

What is fair is subjective. I've watched reviews from very respected and independent reviewers who rarely get keys from publishers due to their honest and candid reviews, and those guys hated the game and provided clear reasoning and footage demonstrating each point they made. If anything, based on several reviews I've seen, this one is bordering on being too generous. I guess you can find out by playing it yourself. Personally I trust those other guys more from experience.

I am 12 hours in an I absolutely love exploring the world and soak in the atmosphere as a 40 year old lifelong Star Wars Fan and I have to admit that it really does feel like the Star Wars I love. I can only recommend to play this on hard. It feels like the whole combat and stealth system was build around it. Otherwise it's completely braindead because you have way to much Health and enemies are pushing which seems so stupid on normal but on hard it keeps you on your toes and forces you to use all your different equipments and abilities in your toolkit and it feels really well rounded up. On normal it feels broken tbh. On Series X I play start 28/7 and I hat one crash and one time I feel trout a staircase after meeting an enemy. The way how organic updating your abilities, equipment with the little stories they tell and the exploring the world feels is absolutely amazing and it refreshes the Uni formal substantial. I think it´s the best approach they ever did and hope many of these ideas will carry over to Far Cry and Assassin's Creed. I like that the story is kind of grounded and not liver the top and that it is more about letting you expense the world out of the eyes of a wannabe Scoundrel who becomes more and more experienced.

I've seen mostly relentlessly negative stuff about this game, but a lot of it felt like the negativity was pretty subjective. Whenever I consider making game or product purchases anymore I expressly look for both positive and negative reviews, as I feel that by gathering information both positive and negative about a product I can get a more complete idea of what it actually is. I really appreciated your review and I feel like you were very fair, evaluating both positive and negative aspects of the game. I probably won't buy it myself, particularly because AAA games just haven't been living up to their hype for quite a while for me(and combat and story are 2 of the biggest aspects of a game to me and your review tells me those are lacking in this), but I will keep your channel in mind for looking at evaluations of future games.

For a Massive game... the combat system it's a shame for me. They also made Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora... for this game they made a regression...
@ArcaneZippity2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the review video... Honestly, I like most of the exploration and side quest content... It might be a mixed bag for people who are not into jumping puzzles, exploring to find back entrances, and puzzling out certain mission/quest areas... I didn't mind most of it, but some were harder to figure out then others... The combat system is rather basic for the most part, and while it does progress a bit in the beginning, it will eventually feel a bit stale for some folks... While the speeder took some getting used to, I had to turn off the Mouse Turning feature on PC, as it made using the speeder much harder in my opinion... Opting to go with just keyboard movement controls, and using the mouse to look around instead, made using the speeder much easier... I also, like Mortismal, hate Simon Says styled puzzles, so I turned that function off for Slicing... It may seem a bit cheaty to do that, but I'd rather not be annoyed by puzzle systems I don't like... The main story, as much as I've completed so far, feels rather basic, but honestly, I think it is not where the developers wanted players to focus their game play in the first place... Touted as an Open World game, that is where they focused much of their attention... The side stories with the Syndicates are not mind blowing, but I feal more attention was placed on these bits of side content then the main story... In the end, this is not a Story Rich RPG, although it does have story stuff... It feels like a cross between an Action-Adventure game, a planet side exploration game, along with some RPG elements thrown in... The progression system is unique and interesting, along with some basic gear systems thrown in to round it out... All in all, you could technically blow through this game's main story without heavy involvement in all the side content... But in my opinion, you would be losing out on the meat and potatoes of the game if that is all you care about... Visually, I think the game looks good overall... I don't care as much about visuals if the game play is fun... The only qualm I really have with the visuals is Kay's hair and her face sometimes... It looks alright in some scenes, and not as good in others... I think that is because they are not using dynamic animated cut scenes, but pre-made ones... The story scenes look far better most of the time when comparing types of scenes... If I had one wish for this game, that would be the ability to modify Kay's face and hair... Since that is not an option via game mechanics, I'm holding out hope for the modding community to take on that feat... There are a few mods for the game already, when it comes to visuals, but most are basic environmental visual alterations like lighting and so on, for the moment... It's early days, so I look forward to seeing where it goes.... I agree 100% with Mortismal when it comes to game pricing... Ubisoft+ subscription is the cheapest option at the moment, which is the route I chose to go with... The basic package price is normal for games these days, even if it is missing some very minor things in comparison to the more expensive packages... There is no boxed game to purchase, so the others are just super expensive digital upgrades... Which is probably meant to drive players towards Subbing in the first place... As far as purchasing the game, if by the end I enjoyed everything, I will most likely buy the game on another platform when it goes on sale... I personally believe the non-Basic prices are way too high, especially since there is no physical version of the game, such as a collector's edition that would make such a high purchase more worthwhile... As to bugs, I've only ran into a couple, most of which were not game breaking, and did not ruin my fun at all... The most active bug I've witnessed is the Ubisoft Cloud Save Sync not working sometimes when entering or exiting the game... Which doesn't bother me since I have the saves locally anyhow... Which reminds me, the fact I cannot make manual saves when in the middle of hostile territory, puzzle areas, and in the middle of combat, is ridiculous to me... Especially for a PC game... It feels like an archaic console system function being forced onto players... If I have to quit in the middle of something when in those sorts of situations, all I have to rely on is auto-saves and/or save points (which I loathe entirely) ... When I see that in games on a PC, it just makes me think the developers are either lazy, or this is just a poorly ported console game being cheaply brought over onto PC, rather than a game intended for PC play all along... Tis annoying... Livable... But annoying all the same...

Was really happy to see you reviewed this. I'm a big star wars fan, but a bit of a Ubisoft hater, just feel like they reuse the gameplay formula for all their games, so I've been on the fence with this one. Some channels I've seen cover it are obvious shills and others feel like they're blindly hating it. I'm glad to see this isn't just space farcry, I hope Ubisoft continues to get further away from that formula, but it seems like it will still feel like a repetitive gameplay loop because of the lack of depth in combat. I usually don't prioritize narrative, gameplay is the most important thing to me usually, but with this being a star wars game, I feel like they already have all the hard work of establishing a lore base done and it's a shame they couldn't do more with the story when the IP is one of the more story rich ones out there. Thanks for the content as always, gonna wait for a 50% or more sale to check this one out. AAA game prices are just not worth it these days when you can find a plethora of indie and smaller studio games that are around 40 bucks or less that are just better.

First time on this channel; I wanted a fair review that wasn't an automatic 10 out of 10 because they got a Ubisoft check or a 0 out of 10 because there's a woman on the box. Looks like a serviceable but bland Sunday afternoon game. I might get it, but not until it's $15 and I'm in a Star Wars mood. And it comes to Steam. Thank you for the review, it was genuinely helpful!

Thank you, for your great reviews as always. i've been playing it during the early access and was expecting it to be another ubishit copy paste with an IP. They needed to optimize the graphics big time it was so bad. but suprinsgly they fixed it and it's good. Just turn off RTX lighting, But It..is...FUN.. People jumped on the hate bang wagon quick its a shame. I find it more fun and more of an experience then Starfield. The game and nature stays true to itself, and is a unique experience for that. most gamers are so fkn spoiled and within a bubble, like most things when something fresh comes around it's usually seen in a negative light; especially with a developer with a bad track record. it'll def be a cult classic and the sequel will only be better IMO.

I’ve just finished this entire video and having beaten the game the other night, I found it interesting he says he didn’t find the story to be one of its strong suits. For me it was the world and main story that were the only captivating things about the game, beginning with the hilarious Anq and everything that transpires towards the end of the game. It really comes together nicely and while you can reduce it to ‘another heist movie’ i don’t think we’ve ever seen one executed so well within the star wars mythos, and especially with the narrative underpinnings connecting nd5 to kay. It was good stuff. That said i only played the main story and really didn’t engage with the side content because i could tell it was a slog, so i can understand if mort was just exhausted with it by that point

Thanks for the solid review. Based on others I have seen I was surprised you liked this as much as you did. One thing that I am curious about. Some spoke of automatic failures upon detection in some stealth missions. You didn't mention this in the stealth section of the review. Is this auto fail very rare or did you just never fail in one of those scenarios? EDIT - Based on a response comment, the "getting thrown out" scenario is the result of the auto-fail, so I didn't realize you had already addressed the issue.

I've experienced one autofail in the tutorial, and then one in the first town/planet. It seems like the "autofail" are when you are stealthing in the faction areas inside towns - you simply get kicked out. As he said, out in the world it seems more often they just try to kill you. In that situation, unless you want to completely destroy whatever reputation you have with that group you kind of have to fail - just run, or restart.
@vint4gesank3y202 ай бұрын
I was really bummed when I learned there wasn’t gonna be multiple endings. What’s the point of having reputations if you’re not gonna have multiple outcomes? Plus, with the criminal underworld they had a great reason to give a darker Star Wars story…
@Jdemonify2 ай бұрын
multiple endings is double edged sword. I was thinkin about it today. Sometimes games dont need it.
@vint4gesank3y202 ай бұрын
@@Jdemonify Definitely agreed. When you add a faction reputation system into a game though, multiple endings can be very cool and immersive. Especially with a heist story, imagine how many endings you can get depending on your approach, crew mates, and faction ties. Not saying it’s necessary, but with how Outlaws displays itself, multiple endings could’ve been cool. Especially when the criminal underworld isn’t known very well in canon at the time the game takes place. Anything could happen in canon=multiple endings.

The biggest disappointment to me is the lack of a real melee combat system. I mean, even if you take out the Jedi, Star Wars has a lot of melee combat with things like vibro blades and what not. Especially given that Ubisoft has some games with very cinematic melee combat, the lack of melee is really disappointing to me and honestly feels a bit dated. In the wake of games like Cyberpunk (which has a cinematic fusing of melee and ranged combat like tossing an enemy in the air and shooting them on the way down), you'd at least expect some sort of a viable melee system. Hell, Starfield even has melee (though sometimes I wish it didn't).
@dayglo98Ай бұрын
Well if you compare melee in Starfield to melee in Outlaws, I'll take melee in Outlaws. In Starfield it is useless

A couple really annoying things about combat that I haven't seen mentioned in reviews: 1. If you hold aim when you're behind cover (let's say ducking behind a crate), Kay will kind of poke her head out of cover while aiming the blaster in order to shoot from cover. That's fine, but the problem is that you have to hold aim in order switch blaster modules. So, lets say you have a heavy Imperial with an energy shield shooting at you with a chain gun. The best solution is to switch to your ion module. You either need to move away from cover to switch, or wait him to stop firing for a sec, or just risk taking some damage while you switch. 2. The game auto switches shoulder perspective based on how close you are to walls or other objects. I had multiple occasions where I'm charging a powerful shot, coming around a corner, only to have the shoulder perspective and therefore the crosshairs suddenly move as I release the trigger, making me miss and have to wait for recharge and cooldown.

Excellent review. Very honest without riding the controversy. 70$ is indeed a very steep price for a game that has too many flaws. For me, a Star Wars game should have excellent combat so yes this definitely is a dealbreaker.

The concept of this is very appealing. I always liked the seedier underbelly and outlaw/smuggler stuff in the SW universe and I was looking forward to this, but I guess at the end of the day it's still an Ubisoft game, so I'll just wait a couple months for this to go on sale for $20. I have a lot of other games I'm looking forward to/in backlog now and this doesn't seem like a must buy for me.

Speaking as a Star Wars fan growing up during the prequals, this was one of my most anticipated games. I love open world games, especially the AC Origins and Odyssey games, I like turning off my brain and exploring. I actually enjoy the feeling of clearing objectives off the maps in these games, I think its a OCD thing? The reviews havent scared me off completely, just want to hold off for a few updates a big discount and fingers crossed some Mando outfit dlc. Turning off my brain in a galaxy far far away is something I long for in a video game haha.

Had the most fun in a star wars game in a while thanks to Outlaws, it was fun playing a jedi/sith in Jedi and Force Unleashed, but we never have a true open star wars game (not including the mmo) that focuses on blasters, it’s quite refreshing actually. And the story somehow ended up in my top 5 in games and that says something. It’s so rewarding without there being a progression system and I cant wait to see what they do with the expansions when they release.

He does 100% reviews which are unaffected by internet controversy since his review criteria doesn't include that so he won't exaggerate to say a 6/10 game is the worst game ever or that a 8/10 game is the GOTY. You can see his old reviews are pretty level headed and he'll comment on bad performance or AI but rarely uses hyperbole on how bad a game is.

This is one of the best reviews on this game I watched. If I wasn't a big Lucas SW fan II probably wouldn't haave played it. Since the Gameplay loop gets old after about halfway through. Although the environments and faithfulness to the original trilogy is what makes it shine for me. I think for their first SW game Ubisoft did a good job. It just sucks we probably won't get a sequel where they can improve on certain aspects of the game. I wish they would have made it more like the Mad Max game from years ago . That's what it reminds me of but not as good and polished as that particular game.

I've seen a lot of weird clipping and NPC behavior and other anti-Ubi content compilations for this. Sort of have to ignore the anti-Ubi commenters everywhere to get a semi-accurate fair presentation of the game. Glad to have Mort's take. I'll probably get it, but after a bit and maybe more sensible DLC inclusion and on my customer-oriented storefront of choice. Not top of the pile anyway...but not a skip like Jedi survivor or whatever.
