Agree with what Cam said about how the league doesn’t give players a chance to develop anymore. Then the team turns around and blames everything on the young players. Honestly if the league wants to give guys a shot at developing they need to be allowed to allocate players to UFL

@@demmefrazier6629 Russ gonna ball? I know his numbers looked okay, but Russ is basically the opposite of what Justin is when it comes to stats. Russ' stats look great, but he doesn't pass the eye test if you actually watched Broncos games. Justin's stats don't look great, but if you watched Bears games you'd see that he spent almost 2 full seasons being the only productive player on the entire team, besides Kmet and Moore who were only productive because of Justin getting them the ball and having no one else to lean on as far as receivers. Justin played with a defense that gave up 32 PPG for 15 straight weeks, and his win/loss record (which shouldn't be held solely against QBs) would be much better if, again, the defense wasn't allowing teams to drive up and down the field on them with ease. Lastly, the Steelers would've never went after Justin if they didn't plan on him starting eventually. Russ is just the bridge, but he's a great veteran to learn some things from at least while Justin prepares to get back out there. Training camp and preseason is gonna be interesting. Lol.

RG3 doesn't seem to mention that the organization that drafted Fields isn't the same at all, and it doesn't really make sense for Williams to judge them in the same light. They got Moore, Allen, Swift, and Kmet as weapons on offense with a young O-line. Not to mention they just got Waldron who should hopefully shape the offense around his strengths like he did with Geno Smith in Seattle. If I was Williams, I'd be pretty happy to know that I am one of the few first overall picked QBs that isn't going into a complete dumpster fire of a situation for once.

@@Keefer24 They got a solid foundation so far. This past season their biggest issue early on was injuries, but later in the season when fully healthy, the line has been fairly effective running the ball (2nd best rushing offense in the NFL) which should pair well with Swift and helps a new QB adjust to the game by just handing the ball off. They got Wright and Jenkins, who are solid early draft picks, and then just picked up Bates which was arguably their biggest hole in the line at Center. I ain't saying they're gonna win the NFC North. I'm just saying this Bears team is far from the worst situation Williams could end up in.

The way the Steelers do things I wouldn't doubt if they replace Wilson sometime during the season with Fields. They'll wait until 51% of the season is over to play him so they Don't have to give up a fourth round draft pick to the Bears. They have to see if he's worth 25 million which is due on his contract next year. Wilson is not the same player he used to be and can't evolve into a pocket passer.

The Bears right now have arguably the best surrounding system for a newly drafted 1st round QB in years (maybe ever?). I am not saying they're winning the superbowl next year. The Bears have the first pick thanks to Carolina. A 7-10 team never has the first pick overall. This might be the best situation for a rookie QB in the history of the league.

@@traddydad1997not at all. Carolina traded the house and their best wide out to the bears for that #1. Not to mention their #1 pick this year. Da bears! Im a bears fan. Watched tap and the games. I loke Justin Fields. We didnt use him correctly. Our OC didnt use hin to his best ability. But tap and time shows Justin cant go thru all his progression. Just watch the tap. Thats his biggest weakness. And Caleb can! So tbh i rather take a pocket passer that can read his progression consistently. Respect to justin. His career will be better with Steelers. But Caleb can be special to. So time will tell soon

With what the Bears have added so far, durig free agency alone, any QB should be happy to be their QB1. But in the past years, I've thought the same as RG3. It's obvious to me that the last 2 years were all about getting us to this point. It will now be the house that Ryyan built.

Teams don't have time to develop. They got to be exciting and attract attention (and ratings, and marketing exposure). They got to be competitive asap. So, you got 2, maybe 3 years to identify whether your guy is going to be a top competitor (able to beat Mahomes, Burrow, Allen, Hurts, Lamar, etc...). If he's not, the sound business decision is NOT to invest hundreds of mil of cap % (5th y opt or extension) in a guy you know is not what you want, and reset the salary clock as often as necessary, until you hit on the top-tier QB you're looking for.

ALL Young QBs benefit from sitting...unless they go to a team that didnt need a QB in the first place, has a team in place already to nurture them and can relax and just learn (Lamar Jackson, Russel Wilson, Aaron Rodgers, Jordan Love, PAtrick Mahommes)...the blueprint doesnt change,..unless teams are ADAMANT about MAKING a QB their Qb (like Tua in Miami)

Fields is definitely in a better situation. Even if Russ starts all games and goes to the playoffs, he's about to be 36 and declining. There's not much more time left for Russ in the league. Pittsburgh's roster is leagues better than what Fields had in Chicago and a way better coaching staff as well. This is one of the best situations that Fields could've been traded to in the league.

As a Steelers fan, I can tell you that Coach T needs help managing the offense as well as the totality of player talent on the team. I don't know much about Arthur Smith, but I do recall the Titans using both Tannehill & Mariotta in games in Tennessee. Fields was greatly disrespected with the value of the trade, but as Cam basically said, you can choose to be personal or professional about it. Again as a long-time Steelers fan I can already see that the Steelers just regenerated recent problems: We just recreated the Old-Big-Ben vs Young-Mason Rudolph scenario. Russell was literally a third round selection and Justin has just been valued as a 6th round talent in the latest trade, much like Ben being a 1st rounder and Mason being a 3rd rounder. Old guy vs Young guy. The Steelers drafted Mason in 2018 and Ben immediately got his fat a$$ off the couch and came into training camp in the best shape of his life. After anointing Russell Wilson, the Steelers acquire Justin Fields and all-of-a-sudden we have training videos of Russell Wilson circulating the web. So unless Arthur Smith comes up with a plan, much like Mason...Justin Fields will rot on the bench. The coaching staff is NOT built to manage two Alpha quarterbacks. The Steelers player's names may have changed, but it looks like the problems still remain! I honestly don't think Russell will genuinely help Justin until he has gotten his next big pay day, so Justin's best opportunity will be in training camp...which by-the-way is NOT a competition...SAME STEELERS MISTAKES!

Good insight on this, I do feel like Wilson and JF will be close and help each other out, both their character is a lot different than most QBs. Also if Russ stays healthy and plays well there will be teams desperate for a QB in the future and JF value will go up. The bears just could not hold him as an asset like the Steeler can, unfortunately JF is now a pawn of this ruthless business and has to wait patiently for a bigger pay day.

The NFL has changed. 150 pass yards per game and only throwing 2600 yards and 17 tds in a season is worth a 6th/7th round pick nowadays. Fields would have been MVP in the 1950s though!
